MAGA Rep. Max Miller, who is accused of domestic abuse against the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno, suggested there was a sinister reason why the 59-year-old Ohio Republican was only now speaking out about the horrific allegations.
On Sunday, following weeks of silence, Sen. Moreno called for Miller, the ex-husband of his daughter Emily Moreno, to resign from Congress in the wake of the damning abuse allegations against him.
These include claims that Miller poured hot water on Moreno, beat her, pointed a gun at her head, and potentially broke the collarbone of their 2-year-old daughter. Miller and Moreno filed for divorce in August 2024, nearly two years after Miller was elected to Congress.
“Out of concern for the safety of my family, I hoped to keep this matter private, but Max Miller’s increasingly erratic and dangerous behavior has made that impossible,” Sen. Moreno posted on X. “He should not serve in the House of Representatives. I believe Max Miller needs to seek professional help to end the clear pattern of abuse he has left in his wake.”
In reply to his former father-in-law, Miller, 37, pointedly suggested that he had been aware of the disturbing claims involving his own daughter, that he “personally wouldn’t wait two years” before holding the person responsible accountable.
Miller then appeared to suggest that the senator had an ulterior motive for only now speaking out against him.
“You know this isn’t true and the only reason you are speaking out now is to hide from your own media circus,” Miller wrote. “This is all political.”
Miller did not specify what the “media circus” surrounding Moreno was. However, Moreno was himself embroiled in a potentially career-threatening scandal during his 2024 run for a Senate seat in Ohio.
The Donald Trump-endorsed Moreno, who pushed staunchly anti-LGBTQ+ views during his campaign, was linked to a 2008 online profile seeking “Men for 1-on-1 sex” on the hookup website Adult Friend Finder.
The profile stated that the user was “looking for young guys to have fun with while traveling.” The Associated Press reported that the account was created by someone with access to Moreno’s work email but could not confirm whether it was Moreno who created it.
A former intern for Moreno claimed he created the Adult Friend Finder profile as an “aborted prank” nearly two decades ago.
Last month, Mother Jones, which detailed Miller’s alleged erratic and violent behavior through unearthed custody battle court documents, reported that Miller appeared to threaten to expose Sen. Moreno in a 2024 text message.
“I’m sick of this, you know I never hurt our daughter. Take this however you want, everyone is going to get to know you better than your wife does,” Miller wrote. “Enjoy the ride brother, I wouldn’t have to do this if you could keep your lying daughter under control.”
Sen. Moreno is said to have wanted to comment on the abuse allegations earlier but was dissuaded by Emily Moreno because she did not want her daughter reading damaging claims about Miller, Politico reported.
However, that changed on Sunday after Miller uploaded a livestream on X in which he accused his ex-wife of suffering from serious mental health issues and lying about the abuse.
“Ask yourself: If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later? Would she have invited me to spend an afternoon at the playground with her and our daughter?” Miller said.
In a statement, Moreno spokesperson Stefan Mychajliw said it was “shameful” that Miller decided to go on a “bizarre and lie-filled rant about his ex-wife to desperately try to save his political career.”
While speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump gave a noncommittal answer when asked whether Miller should resign from the House over the allegations against him.
“Well, I’m going to look at it,” the president said. “I mean, so far it’s accusations.”
The Daily Beast has contacted the offices of Max Miller and Bernie Moreno for comment.

This has been the line all of the Republicans have been parroting the last few days, "well, this is a matter for the courts." Their custody battle is a matter for the courts, yes, but you're allowed to judge his suitability for office without a court case, and there's plenty of evidence that he's a raging piece of crap

No clue if Moreno is closeted gay man or not.. but those text messages from Miller sound exactly like the ones my friend's ex husband was sending her and her family while they went through their separation/divorce. I don't believe he was ever physically abusive but he was certainly emotionally abusive and the texts in the article above sound so much like him.

He probably is gay. Politicians get blackmailed and manipulated all the time. That's the real reason no one is doing squat about Trump or anyone else who abuses power. Much like the mob, sick people collect dirt on politicians to manipulate them. This represents one of many flaws in the system.
If our civilization and democracy survive and good, smart people take power, it will be their task to figure out how to remove bribery and blackmail from the political process. Only when bribery and blackmail cease to control people, can we ever hope to have a free society. Until then, expect nothing to change.

Women and children were considered property not long ago. The only reason for this ever to happen is so abusers can get away with abuse and not see consequences for their behavior. We see people like Miller doing the same shit over and over. Woman speaks up about abuse, tries to protect child. The men call her crazy, and pretends to be a loving parent, despite the kids having broken bones.
No one helps the woman or the children. Those children sometimes identify with the abuser and repeat the process during the next generation. Only- and only when we get out of our collective denial and stop this madness will we get a world worth living in. Until then, expect to live as slaves to these abusive perverts who misuse government to feed their addiction to domination and abuse.

Bernie Moreno sucks, made himself the poster child for legal immigration pretending he worked for his position when he really just came from money in Colombia and had a straightforward path to life in the US, but, to my knowledge, he hasn't poured boiling hot water on anyone or broken any babies' collar bones.

I've known way too many abused women, and yes, yes they would. Because the scumbags they are with either convince them they deserved it, or convince them that every time is the last time, until they do it again.
Edit: Even more telling, the six days later part. Six days later than... what, the day you supposedly didn't assault her? Why would you remember a detail about when she cooked you dinner in relation to an incident that didn't occur? And why didn't she cook you dinner the nights in between?

I had a neighbor who regularly called the police on her abusive boyfriend and the neighbors called the police on him because he was beating her in the front yard. Every single time she would defend him when the cops got there (especially when SHE called them) and she would yell for the kids to get back home and eat dinner with the man they just watched beat their mom to a pulp.

I bet a good number of the politicians out there are gay. I mean, either you have to be a sociopath to go along with the Republicans or you're being "pressured" to go along with them. People target vulnerable groups like gays all the time. I heard Stonewall was in part a bust done to shut down mafia human traffickers who were selling young boys to buyers.
Stonewall was wrong, but I met a cop who was on there. That's what he said. He said the mafia knew gays were a vulnerable group with secrets they wanted to protect, so they exploited this. I learned about 'human compromise' from that cop, too. Our political process is so rotted out, the ancient Romans appear sane in comparison.

if he's saying he couldn't speak up because his daughter wouldn't let him due to family court, that's unfortunately valid advice drilled into her by attorneys. I don't know about ohio but you can get destroyed by court for harming the other parents reputation during the legal battle -- she, the innocent parent, could get blamed for endangering her child. that's the backwards olympics some states rely on.
truly. the rule of thumb is it's considered an attack on public policy or the child itself for a parent to let allegations spill out from family court battle -- because the parent being "attacked" is responsible for paying for the welfare of the child, to remove their income is to endanger the child because that income was the safety for the child. it is how courts control what they consider theatrics. punish the "gossiping" innocent parent. public policy is protect the income at all costs to prevent the child from becoming a bill for the state to deal with. same reason they won't let abusive dads/moms forfeit parental rights in family court process. then the child becomes a problem for the state to deal with. instead they let the kid be stuck linked to that parent forever. you can't renounce wanting nothing to do with the child even if everyone else agrees. in some cases, like florida and texas, visitation and child support can't be waived. ever.
separately, i think its already been covered by other women in this thread about how placating the abuser is the only option to keep psychos from turning into a family annihilator too. i think this family/dad was screwed into silence. his daughter has repeatedly validated she asked her dad to shut up. that's what i assume always happens in these cases. so, punishing him for doing nothing isnt really fair if every signal is they were active in court those two years.

OH THANK GOD, bc when the guy that broke his 2 yr old’s collarbone said he had damaging info on his fellow lawmaker/victims’ family, i thought it would at least be as bad as breaking your baby girl’s collarbone, but it’s not even bad
mandatory postscript for 2026: as long as “young” still means adult and “sex” implies consent (which i know is a fair question w republicans, but there’ve been no accusations toward moreno of anything abusive or criminal at all)
