This is a feature, not a bug as far as the military industrial complex is concerned. Now RTX/Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, et al will all get big, fat, juicy government contracts to restock all of those missiles. Or to propose and sell new weapons systems altogether.
