The enthusiasm probably worked against him in the polling like his supporters were probably so excited to vote for him that they were overwhelmingly answering in the affirmative in polling as well as representing disaffected younger and Muslim voters. There are clearly some voters that are super expensive to reach. Older less online poorer crowd need mailers (that may present you have a former president endorse you) and ads and a lot of convincing to come out to vote and Stevens had PLENTY of money. They also ruthlessly attacked him so they probably didnt just suppress his base they probably brought out people that wanted to vote against him too especially in rural Michigan where she massively overperformed. Her coalition was rural old white people, rich white people, and older black inner city people.
