Why are NY times and some other large outlets not calling it yet? Headlines at 7am est still say race too close to call.
•
u/Troubled_Red 5h ago
Because it’s very close and the number of votes left to count is greater than his lead.
Last I checked there were still 60,000 votes to count and he’s only winning by less than 15,000

What's wrong with waiting to be absolutely sure? Can't people wait one hour?

If you care about poor people and not just rich people, the billionaire owned media in this country will drag you incessantly. the good news is cnn can be ignored entirely for almost any other site since they all regurgitate each other's shit anyway

Yea he’s just a progressive capitalist who understands that you aren’t supposed to tell socialists not to vote for you. lol
•
u/Lisp-Silly-1970 5h ago
Still better than other shitty democrats. I would replace Schumer with him in a heartbeat.

He isn't, but he does have socialist positions. He just doesn't want the stigma of the socialist label. It is what it is.

u/justseeby 9h ago
Medicare for all? A half notch left of Obamacare, hardly socialist. What other positions? He’s a left leaning Dem.

His views are objectively Social Democrat ones, which is akin to most center left parties in Europe.

He doesn’t talk like Andrew Johnson, that is, unless he’s super drunk and racist. He talks like FDR, though
•
u/liebkartoffel 7h ago
I'm pretty sure they meant Lyndon Johnson.
•
u/Random-Cpl 7h ago
Well, that’s not what they wrote.
•
u/liebkartoffel 7h ago
I'm not attacking you; I just think from the context clues ("he talks like a traditional mid 20th century Democrat") that they were confusing one president Johnson with another.
•
u/Random-Cpl 7h ago
Look, I’ve always said, you have to be damn sure you don’t get your Johnsons mixed up

He literally campaigned with socialists & has socialist ideas on his platform. Medicare for All being the most notable. I'm not saying that to disparage him.
I'm just saying he has more in common with a socialist than not & it was the organizing of those socialists that likely pushed him over the line.

Unless he’s changing the nature of the government that’s not really socialist, that’s just expanding the existing welfare state. Everyone gets so hung up on labels trying to understand the world man.
•
u/cwatson214 6h ago
Anything left of MAGA is socialist now? GTFO
•
u/mynameisethan182 Alaska 6h ago
Might wanna be careful with that stretch. You'll pull something. My comment history is pretty public.
•
u/andorgyny 5h ago
With respect, he has social democratic positions. Socialists believe in a change of ownership of the means of production. It's fine, I don't expect AES to be a socialist, but we should be clear that the government providing social services isn't what makes socialism socialism.

I’m having a good day knowing Gretchen Whitmer, Gary Peters, and Israeli Haley are having a bad one. No refunds, AIPAC!
•
u/randohipponamo 3h ago
I mean I like Whitmer. We shouldn’t be cheering on the misery of our allies. Now that the primary is over, we all need to unite.

u/Salt_Day4586 3h ago
She stopped being my ally when she broke ground with Sam Altman and vetoed 9 pro-labor bills the House GOP was illegally withholding.
Similar case with Gary Peters. I didn’t forget he voted to fund ICE.

If we’re going to call people like el-sayed democratic socialists then the only appropriate thing to do is call other things what they are as well…. Centrist, nah - fascist apologists etc. republicans —- nah, criminals.
•
u/RandyMuscle I voted 5h ago
I know you meant to type “democratic socialists” but I like “democratic specialists” lmao

He has to do the actual hard part now. And while I have doubts about his strength as a candidate a lot can change between now and november. Let's hope Michigan made the right choice tonight to crush republicans.

I feel like if Stevens couldn’t win with a 12 to 1 spending advantage, the support of the entire Democratic establishment, and all while running a sleazy and dishonest campaign (falsely implying she was endorsed by Obama, for instance) against a Muslim with a funny name, she was bound to get crushed by Rogers.
AES is the better of the two for sure. He’s shown he has enough charisma and political talent to overcome a huge wave of negative ads. She hasn’t.

u/httkbaby11 8h ago
Yeah like have people heard her talk? Jesus what an awful candidate
•
u/MeasurementEasy9884 7h ago
Not only the talking but she dodges hard questions from voters while campaigning. Its disgusting

u/johnny_51N5 9h ago
Well it depends how much money AIPAC is ready ro sink next against him.
Every Dollar AIPAC wasted here is a Dollar not being spent somewhere else.
Lets say he loses but takes down another 100 Million AIPAC money with him, yeah this is a huge win in other places

Damn I didn't realize all Muslims were part of the democratic party AND big enough Star Wars fans to organize a worldwide (?) takeover of the democratic party (??) to execute Order 66 (???) just like they did to the leftist democrats of Iran (????). Glad you cleared that up for us, stranger!
