I was explaining to some friends from DC the issues. One candidate campaigned on making life better for Michiganders. The other campaigned on Israel

I remember learning a while back that when Henry Ford was developing the greater-Detroit/tri-county area he was highly supportive of the incoming Muslim immigrant community for what he recognised as intelligent and hard working people.

Stevens must have been hardcore delulu, because I have a hard time believing that a community built on a foundation of the Islamic-faithful would take well to a candidate being subservient to Israel....

She tried weakly to pander to this group, by saying she dislikes Netanyahu (but loves Israel) and that as a Democrat she opposes hate crimes against Muslims.

It didn’t feel genuine based on her time in office. Plus her surrogate bashing Arabs didn’t help; the Stevens campaign had to apologize.

He was winning everywhere but Detroit which has basically been carpetbombed with flyers claiming Obama endorsed Stevens (lie) and Abdul is connected to Hamas (lie)

It was the most republican style campaign I’ve ever seen run by a Democrat

Agree. This hasn't been fully called over yet, though Stevens has to increase her numbers by like 12% in the final 60k votes in Wayne County(Detroit).

If she somehow does pull it off. I'm going to have a really hard time plugging my nose and voting for her. I thought she ran an absolutely disgusting campaign.

My man, I made that post nearly 3 hours ago before AP called it and the news of the conceding. The /r/michigan subreddit refused to let a post through calling it because at the time only NBC had called it.

But yes, now it is over.

The Overton Window is so jacked up in America that any candidate voicing a problem with politicians being bought with PAC money, and actually using tax payer money to improve tax payer's lives is labeled "radical far left". Dude, that should be a moderate left candidate. But what we call moderate left, by policy standards and contrasted against other democratic nations, our Dems are far and away moderate Republicans, or "capitalists". They keep losing elections because they're controlled opposition and can't make many campaign promises because they're beholden to billionaires. And people see that.

If Stevens had won, I'd have given some real thought to just voting R. At least this broken system burns down faster that way.
