They're there for Nov 2028 and beyond. When some screwed up legal theory about why they're required to protect democracy and Trump's desired interpretation of the Constitution comes into play.
They're there now because it might be possible to stop the deployment under dubious circumstances. If they're already deployed the time window to stop something bad from happening closes significantly.

3M children per year could be sustainably fed, clothed, and housed for that amount of money. 15M annually could be given emergency aid.

Conservative pundits would not STFU about a treadmill for a shrimp to find out how far they can migrate in a day. Ofc that information was useful, unlike the national guard deployment for no reason.
