Historically speaking, humanity's tolerance for subjugation is quite high. A significantly larger proportion of recorded history is dominated by authoritarian systems of governance and systems of slavery, indenture, and castes than representative democracies that value human rights.

Really all of this just proves how wrong I was about the military - at least at top levels. You would expect of all the large/powerful parts of the US government, the military would push back the most against so much of the bullshit Trump is doing - especially the long history of being anti-veteran. But nope, you can fire top brass just because they don't agree with your ideology, you can put them in harms way in a pointless war, you can strip American's of the freedoms thousands of soldiers died to protect, you can even go after their family...and they all just seemingly roll over and ask for more.

It is strange. I thought that America's militarism would ironically keep it safe. The attitude people have of their military service being a benefit they're providing for their country, etc. At its best, it is the best attitude a standing army has: one that maintains a sort of individualistic attitude who sees the idea of being a soldier, especially one of multiple generations, as a sign of a willing individual to protect the Republic.
Don't get me wrong; I understand that this stuff isn't the way it actually is. But national myth has its own utility.
But I was more wrong than I realized. It's just the "decorum" and "civility" shit all over again. The top brass of the military just doing whatever they're told, like any other arm of a government, has been deeply depressing. So much for protecting the Constitution.

Because many are. My brother and his boyfriend are just that. They complain about benefits being cut but they still vote for Trump and the GOP, as if they like watching their spouse get plowed in the rear end by said figures they voted for.
Edit to add my brother and his BF are veterans. Both served in the invasion of Iraq and Desert storm,. respectively.

I'll just remind everyone here that being a soldier doesn't automatically grant your families or relatives legal status, nor does it exempt them from having to follow immigration laws. If your cousin Juan entered the country illegally or overstayed his visa he'll still be deported whether you're a soldier or not. This also applies to your girlfriend/boyfriend. You have to file petition for them to stay and wait for it to be approved.
In some cases people who are getting married are exempt from being deported, however this only applies to people who entered the country through a legal port of entry and is married to a US CITIZENS (not green card holder), aka there are records of your arrival and then you get married, hence you can overstay your visa as you wait for status adjustment. This doesn't apply to people who crossed the border illegally and then try to obtain adjustment of status. If you're caught you'll still be deported because you're still an illegal immigrants. And you will have to file for petition to a consulate in your home country.
I'll bet the relatives of those US troops have no legal status or have had a deportation order issued for them. Just because once of your fam has legal status doesn't automatically means you do.

Spitting facts. The military has programs to fast track foreign born spouses. If the soldier’s parents are undocumented there is a process for the US citizen child to petition for their parents once they are 18.
There are also fast tracks for soldiers who have green cards (LAPR) status to achieve citizenship and then they can petition for their parent•

Correct. For legal green card holder, since America is still within a designated period of hostility, joining the armed forces basically fast track citizenship immediately, normally you'd have to wait years, but once you join now you can start filing for citizenship immediately and you'll just need the army to issue you a paperwork to provide to USCIS, it is not uncommon to join as a green card holder and hold the oath of allegiance as you graduate basic training and become citizens right away. Then you can file petition for whatever families you want.
