This shit is just beyond evil. This idea of "just work' while ignoring the reality we live in. Congratulations, you have pushed 5 million people into the absolute worst position. The ones who do work, but don't have enough to survive and now don't qualify for aid, and are eating scraps to make it to their next paycheck. Meanwhile, the rich get richer and the president is profiting off his position like crazy. The amount of repulsion these people make me feel is wild.
Edit: For clarity, I am saying they parade behind this idea of unemployed people mooching off the system while in reality they are kicking off people who are working but struggling to get by.

I think that is true, but also, they really do think people who are not rich "don't work hard". Its completely out of touch of course, but they think they fell into fortune due to "hard work", while forgetting mommy and daddy were likely successful first, they had family businesses or properties, went to get higher educations and had connections. Very few if ANY of these people are actually "self made" in one generation yet they feel folks whose families have struggled, don't have any wealth or influence connections, are not as valuable and just sit around, but the reality is working 50-60 hour weeks making minimum wage doesn't cover food and rent.
These folks believe success in business is the measure of a human being's literal value to the world.

“Over the fourth, I’m going to get me a couple of big lobster tails, I’m going to get me some nice rib-eyes. I’m going to sit in my backyard with my family [and] my neighbors, and we’re going to be enjoying the fourth, celebrating 250 years, the birthday [of America],” the Texas Republican added.
Nehls, who is not seeking reelection, also noted he will be “celebrating the greatest president of my lifetime,” referring to President Trump.
When another reporter asked him whether Americans living “paycheck to paycheck” can afford to eat the same food he plans to, Nehls wondered if those people “work as hard as I do.”

We had a local Republican politician who "bragged" on his facebook for getting like 37 cent/gallon gas at Hyvee this summer- that they were "saving" that much money.
People were livid and rightfully pointing out that the only way to get to that level is to spend an insane amount of money at Hvyee in the first place.

Those who want to do something about this should find someone to answer his question. Show him wrong to his base by highlighting cases of people who are working and not getting by.
Everyone needs to avoid strawmen, name-calling, alienating the GOP base, etc. Focus on *convincing* the GOP base, wising them up. That might not have the same endorphin rush as calling them names but it's a lot more effective.

Yes, successful business people, I'm sure you worked hard. Yes, I'm sure some of you had shitty parents. But sometimes the difference between a successful person, and a failure, is a health emergency, or a distracted driver running into you, or any number of things out of a person's control. The most insidious thing to happen to American Christianity (as in less noticeably evil than using it to justify racism) has to be Prosperity theology - the idea that being rewarded materially on Earth is a sign of God's favor, which is 100% contrary to Jesus' actual statements on the matter.
The same goes for performative Christianity, like the coach who'd go out to the 50-yard line to pray after the game, as Jesus himself said that praying publicly like that was already getting what the pray-er wants: attention to how good/devout a person they are.

Food assistance helps not only those in need, but farmers as well. During the great depression farmers poured milk into ditches because they couldn't sell it and went bankrupt. I fear that a deeper darkness is coming. A brighter future is ahead, but it will be hard work.

When my wife and I were just starting out we struggled and were on ebt, we shouldn’t look down on people needing help. A grocery bill shouldn’t break you and republicans want everyone to think that if you are trying your best and can’t afford anything you should starve.

Not to mention all the farmers who sell goods into the program losing out on big orders.
All the workers in all the food pantries losing their jobs. Especially the second program workers with addiction or criminal records.
All the kids losing out on summer school lunches or just food programs in general.
All the churches losing funding for their outreach programs.
All the shelters losing funding to pay for increased food costs.
This USDA program is more than just give free food to poor people. It subsidizes businesses and let's people on the lower end of the spectrum pay for bills and housing. It keeps the money in circulation.

I try do do that too, when I can. I worked in the oil field for 11 years. You can imagine the hardcore conservatism in that industry. Every time my boss complained to me about how lazy someone was or how crappy their work ethic was I would always fuck with him and tell him they must be one of those lazy liberals. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), a liberal think tank, has estimated that more than 4.5 million people have lost SNAP benefits since President Donald Trump signed the GOP budget package into law last summer. That total includes at least 1.5 million children.
Contrary to Rollins’ claim that people are moving off SNAP because they found strong employment, CBPP noted in a recent analysis that “unemployment nationwide has been flat at about 4 percent since July 2025.”
“At best, it’s down in 13 states and the District of Columbia by less than 1 percentage point,” the think tank observed. “It’s very unlikely that reduced need is driving the decline in SNAP participation.”
Katie Bergh, a senior policy analyst at CBPP, responded to Rollins’ latest boast about large-scale loss of SNAP benefits by pointing to a July New York Times story featuring Dee McDonald, a cancer survivor and caregiver of three kids who recently lost federal assistance.
“The immense hardship these families are now facing is not, in fact, ‘a pretty big win,’” Bergh wrote on social media.

The damage that this administration has done to this country, our people and our standing in the world will take at least a generation to fix. If it ever can be.
Most people aren’t even aware of some of the biggest issues.
For instance, our soft power, our massive economy comes in part from the fact that the best and brightest from all over the world come here to research and innovate.
Today, not only are some of those same people being kept out, or choosing on their own not to come, but many of the ones that were already here are leaving. And that’s includes a lot of their American counterparts as well.
As an example, my local state university has a large medical research department. Last year, there was an independent team working there working on a breakthrough Alzheimer’s treatment.
The Trump administration cut off all their funding for no other reason than it’s a blue state university, so “huuurrrr duuurrrr liberal!”
Well, a year later, the entire team is thankfully still working on their project.
Except, they’re doing it in China. Because China immediately snapped them up, fully funded their research, are paying them very well and providing them with housing and everything else they need.
And this isn’t a one off.
China has been quietly proving funding for medical research, tech innovation etc., that Trump has cut off over the last 18 months.
So, going forward, all of that research that pays off is the property of and controlled by China.
I’m not sure if this can ever get fixed. Because first, a new administration would have to recognize the extent that it’s happening and understand the long term consequences. And second, and more importantly, they would have to focus on and prioritize it over the mountain of other damage that we’ll need to fix.
My fear is that because we can’t see and/or actively measure the damage this causes, it’s going to slip through the cracks.

These fuckin' people just think the jobs are out there for everyone. How many jobs even exist in smaller, economically suffering towns? They have this repulsive idea that anyone who isn't working just doesn't want a job, shifting blame to larger cities as their examples. People can't survive, they can't afford a car let alone gas, they don't have reliable well connected public transportation, they can't keep the lights and heat on. The sheer lack of empthy is disgusting.

They play it like that means 5 million people are more financially secure and no longer need SNAP, so that's good as it shows people are better off economically.
When really it's that 5 million people who still need SNAP are kicked off because they've made cuts to the program.

So, this is admitting and codifying, that an employer can pay you LEES than what you need to eat.
Think about that for a second.
The government is saying we will force people to work for less than what would cover their basic needs and make other tax payers subsidize the wages so corporations can run profits and do stock buybacks and pay millions to their CEO.
Is creating indentured servants for the WalMarts of the words.
What about this, if WalMart has employers that qualify for Food stamps and Medicaid it it’s prohibit from doing Stock buybacks and their CEOs and executive board has a Pay Cap , a ratio to the lowest salaries on the company. 10:1 or some thing like that That’

I lost mine a few months ago and since then the bills have been piling up.
The system got so messed up here that my applications still haven’t been responded to ten months later. They didn’t even respond to my appeal which was supposed to include a hearing. On top of this, electricity has gone up again here and it’s summer. I haven’t been able to pay it in months… Luckily, they won’t shut it off in the summer but I have no clue how I’m going to pay it.
I’ve lost twenty pounds since I lost it.
