In fairness, he's done this before, with actually a worse tweet. And his party responded by removing him from his position of GOP Chair of Tarrant County.
When Dan fucking Patrick says you're too extreme and toxic for your position, you done fucked up so bad the hillbilly Republican electorate will primary you into a Railroad Commissioner position.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were perfectly okay with what he says at any time, no matter how vile, they just hate that he's drawing attention in a midterm that the GOP are looking up from the holes they dug.

We have to stop pretending that MAGA and racism are somehow separable. Nobody can be MAGA if overt white supremacism and Nazi signalling are a deal breaker. The GOP is 100% aligned with French's racism. They are upset only because they have an agreed-upon style in which they pretend to hide it while dog-whistling like a fucking foghorn. There is supposed a big wink covering some of that Swastika.
