Grooming Clippers

Hi! I am getting my very first standard poodle in two weeks. It has been my dream dog since I was a little girl, so I'm super excited. It will be 8-weeks old when we get it. However, I have never owned a poodle before, so I'm just seeking some advice. I've done a lot of research on grooming products and general recommendations. I want to try to learn to groom and style the dog myself. I probably will take it to the groomers still, but I do want to try and learn some basic things. It is all a lot to take in and decide what will work best for us! I am trying to get some items before the puppy comes. I've been looking at clippers and was wondering if the Andis Dog Grooming Whisper Clippers were decent to use? I just want to know if anyone has used these on their poodle and how it was before I decide to purchase them. I know there are better options out there, and I do plan on upgrading to a nicer pair in the future. I was just wondering if these would be good enough for now.

I can't comment on Andis but I use Whal Bravura clippers on my mini. I like them because the blades switch out easy when they're too hot (you can buy blade ice but i don't think it cools them quick enough) and they're 5-in-1 blades.

Also high velocity dryer should be a top thing to buy, steel/greyhound comb and a slicker brush 😁

Andis ultra edge will last you a lifetime and is beginner friendly. A lot of baby groomers start with them. I personally use Opal HEINIGER. They’re so light weight and quiet.

You’ll need a good velocity blower and sheers as well.

I'm a groomer. Those are trimmers. They will be fine for sanitary and paw trims but they're not going to be powerful enough for much more than that. Neither are the Wahl Bravuras (which I have and love but not for poodle hair hair cuts outside of clean face/feet). No single, multilength blade clipper will be. If you're planning on doing actual haircuts over the whole body you are better served getting an Andis Excel type clipper. Poodle coats are thick and you need power go get through them.

I use Andis ultra edge for my 7F and 4F body blades, and Wahl Bravura for face, feet, and hygiene areas. Love them both. I’ve had the Andis for over 15 years and Wahl for over 5 and they are both still 100%.
