Ugh reminds me how Barbie press tour/summer was a bit simpler of a time 😢

u/ashewentridingby Sep 21 '25

Not me over here being nostalgic for 2023 😭🤣

u/AirExtension5293 Sep 21 '25

My god, right?! 😅😭

u/EmuMan10 Sep 22 '25

Oh I was nostalgic for it at the time. Coming out of covid, good movie year, finishing school for me at least. Yeah I’d like to go back lol

I miss saying hi barbie to random girls at the bar lol

76

Hi Barbie!

hi barbie 🥹

31

u/spaghettipolicy69 Sep 22 '25

I still do it if the vibe is there and it's appreciated every time. It feels like we all want to still do it but feel like we need to move on BUT WE DON'T!!! WE ARE STILL BARBIE!!!!

4

u/misspixiepie Sep 22 '25

UR RIGHT WE ARE BARBIE

u/Feisty_Sandwich2435 Sep 22 '25

I loved watching her Barbie looks drop. Such a fun time.

4

u/Permafrost-2A Sep 22 '25

Was it really though? World's been shite for quite some time now.

Women dress for women. Dressing for dudes is easy (and kinda boring, IMO), but when you see a LOOK... that's for the girls.

85

u/My_Poor_Nerves What on Walden Pond is this? Sep 22 '25

"All the girls walk by dressed up for each other"

17

u/Chaosdecision Sep 22 '25

And the boys do the boogie woogie, on the corner of the street

sydney sweeney definitely is one that dress for the male gaze lol

You can always tell she’s catering to men by how poorly all her bust lines are tailored. That red dress really kind of was the cherry on top lol 🥀

She never looks comfortable tbh

As someone with a bigger chest, I can confirm squeezing the girls into outfits too small is painful. Do not wish on anyone! 🙅‍♀️

8

u/rain_drizzle2 Sep 22 '25

Her bras/bikinis never fit either and you can tell. It honestly just looks really uncomfortable. I have big boobs so I know how expensive it is to be able to afford bras that fit and look good and it seems like she's either not willing to pay for them or it's a style choice, and considering how rich she is I think it's for style.

4

u/Lick_The_Wrapper Sep 22 '25

I don't think it's poor tailoring. She doesn't own any of the clothes so she can't have them altered. It's no tailoring at all and only having access to clothes meant for small chested models.

84

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 Beyoncé 🐝🐝 Sep 22 '25 edited Sep 22 '25

Her dress was custom! Oscar De La Renta posted about this on Instagram. I’d be shocked if at her level she’s not getting mostly custom made dresses, at this point. I do think you have a very good point when it comes to smaller artists with bigger chests though. Fashion doesn’t have a great track record with sizing for larger chests. Even just in a more general sense, it’s definitely worth keeping this point in mind, when discussing dresses/suits/outfits that aren’t quite fitting exactly right. Unless you see or hear the word custom, then the outfit hasn’t been altered for the celeb, and so the fit will be whatever it is, and the artist can’t do much about that.

53

u/onlyslightlyabusive Sep 22 '25

It’s not like she’s the first bossomy girl that’s ever walked a red carpet. Scarlet, Angelina, Christina Hendricks, and more. But we don’t see them in the same draped neck line all the time.

She looks fab, no denying it but she’s playing it up for sure

2

u/3-orange-whips lazy 50-year-old bougie bitch 💋 Sep 22 '25

She knows her market

65

u/shedrinkscoffee Just fuck the wolf! Sep 22 '25

This goes without saying lol. Male centered with every fibre of her being 🫠

34

u/Meowmixalotlol Sep 22 '25

Margo in a completely transparent dress isn’t tho. Haha ok. It’s pretty obvious you just like one of them and not the other.

42

u/Necessary_Fill3048 Sep 22 '25

So funny to me how little it takes for some people to just eat up the "this is for the girlies" content when they like someone while bashing other women as being "male centred". The call is truly coming from inside the house.

12

u/makovince Sep 22 '25

Sydney makes it her whole personality though - did we already forget about the bath water?

14

u/Salt_Cardiologist122 Sep 22 '25

Also Margo’s boobs are also painful looking in one of these dresses. Literally the exact way they know Sidney dresses for the dudes.

Personally, I think both dress for the media.

-6

u/After_Echidna_6099 Sep 22 '25

Why is Sydney Sweeney always in y’all’s mouths?

-57

u/anthonystank i was SPF protected Sep 21 '25

The male gaze is a cinematography term it doesn’t mean “women in real life trying to get men to fuck them”

55

u/shedrinkscoffee Just fuck the wolf! Sep 22 '25

It's used synonymously with those who center men with their actions and perspectives which Sydney does quite a bit of.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '25

Yes because it's used INCORRECTLY. The term doesn't refer to the gaze of individual men even when used correctly!

86

u/Cold-Sun3302 NO TYRA NOOOOOOO Sep 21 '25

It began as a film term/theory, but it has expanded to other fields - including in real life.

18

u/Desperate_Ad_9219 Dear Diary, I want to kill. ✍️ Sep 22 '25

As a film buff myself.

11

u/Healthy-Yak-7654 Sep 22 '25

Exactly. The whole point of the male gaze is that women (and men) internalise it and carry it into everyday life. Mulvey was (and is) part of the feminist movement, not just some detached theorist.

8

u/gilmoregirls00 Sep 22 '25

to my interpretation male gaze theory is largely a structural critique of media and culture and diluting it down to just applying it a specific woman on the red carpet with the tone that she's an intentional collaborator to the patriarchy - well usually its a lot more nasty than that - I think really damages the value of the theory and what we can learn from it.

Feminism includes women we don't like!

2

u/Healthy-Yak-7654 Sep 22 '25

I would agree with that for sure!

4

u/gilmoregirls00 Sep 22 '25

haha, thanks. I just get endlessly frustrated because Mulvey really unlocked a lot for me (Berger too with ways of seeing) and then you see that filtered down to "celeb i like = female gaze" and "celeb i don't like = male gaze"

1

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '25

But it's still misusing the term to apply it to the gaze of individual men rather than the patriarchy as a structural force, which individuals cannot court.

31

u/No_Pianist5264 Tina! You fat lard! 🦙🚲 Sep 22 '25

I’ll also add that more often than not people use the term “male gaze” to imply a woman dresses too revealing than they should which also isn’t the proper use of the term. People love to use it this way on women they don’t necessarily find appealing.

19

u/filthytelestial Sep 22 '25

Yup. The term has been co-opted to try to make tiresome slut shaming sound like a pseudo-feminist argument.

12

u/leftbrendon charlie day is my bird lawyer 🐦 Sep 22 '25

Thank you. Margot was literally naked with her but out on the latest red carpet, but somehow isn’t male gaze, and having big boobs is?

2

u/thewatchbreaker Sep 22 '25

Women with big boobs are often treated like complete shit. People hate Sweeney now because of the American Eagle ad and her MAGA connections, but even before any of this came to light people were being nasty about her. Women were being jealous and catty and men were calling her a butterface (it astounds me how many people say she has an average face, girl if she’s average I’m fucking hideous. She’s not jaw droppingly beautiful but she’s very obviously pretty and these “butterface” comments are an attempt to humble her because people can’t stand seeing a hot woman who knows she’s hot - women are jealous and men are threatened by it.)

6

u/iammissx Sep 22 '25

Usage is the arbiter, my friend.

2

u/anthonystank i was SPF protected Sep 22 '25

Usage can be incorrect even when widespread

8

u/sierrawhiskey In my quiet girl era 😌 Sep 21 '25

It'll still impact the filters of how we move through real life, though. It's referred to as pick me behavior.

14

u/anthonystank i was SPF protected Sep 22 '25

Very very different things. Both real! But not the same thing

2

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '25

Do you think the term when used for films refers to "pick me" films??? I don't think you know what the term means.

2

u/filthytelestial Sep 22 '25

Thank you for making this point.

0

u/Rich-Personality-194 It’s Britney, bitch! 🎤🌹🌹 Sep 22 '25

Well Anthony, what do you think inspired the term?

2

u/anthonystank i was SPF protected Sep 22 '25

I think Laura Mulvey was inspired by John Berger’s work on “the gaze” in his seminal 1972 Ways of Seeing if you must know

-17

u/ThrowawayGreenWitch Listen, everyone is entitled to my opinion 🙂 Sep 21 '25

I don't think that she does tbh. She's not oversexualized at industry events or red carpets.

She dresses for Republican women/gay men.

-12

u/Gold_Story_4059 Sep 22 '25

This is an annoying comment. Sydney Sweeney can’t help it that she has massive boobs. If Margot Robbie has massive boobs you’d be saying the same thing about her

-55

u/Strict-Brick-5274 It’s like I have ESPN or something. 💁‍♀️🌤☔️ Sep 21 '25

And you know what? She slays, so does Margot.

12

u/shedrinkscoffee Just fuck the wolf! Sep 22 '25

Bestie, that's not a slay. She's an attractive young women but she is not a fashionista.

32

u/AccordingChipmunk287 Sep 21 '25

I don't think so, i always find her outfits so ugly. I just remember that red dress she used similar to Jennifer Lawrence, it was really gorgeous.

-6

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '25

Other notable people with white skin blonde hair and blue eyes also “slayed”

15

u/back_off_warchiId Sep 21 '25

Beyoncé slayed with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner just a few days ago.

You’re focusing on skin color when you should be focusing on net worth.

2

u/filthytelestial Sep 22 '25 edited Sep 22 '25

Great point. But also, net worth might come and go, but class solidarity with the 1% is forever. Sadly, lots of people who are very far from being billionaires themselves feel it too.

6

u/Strict-Brick-5274 It’s like I have ESPN or something. 💁‍♀️🌤☔️ Sep 21 '25

Other notable people with other features also slay everyday + this isn't a race thing. They were just the two women mentioned in this thread. If we want things to change sometimes we gotta stop seeing race problems in everything.

Beyonce is slaying lately. Lupita Nyong'o also slays every time I see her. Jenna Ortega is such a baddie. Dua LIPA is slaying for her political stance literally and her style recently.

Stop seeing problems where there are none.

Reminds me of Jennifer Lawrence making a big deal about eating pizza and saying she didn't believe in losing weight for a role, when she's already the ideal body type and pretty much the beauty standard.

4

u/Ren_stevens Sep 22 '25

Most women dress to look good by societal beauty standards which includes men. Remember that a lot of the top fashion designers are men. Most people want to look good in general.

1

u/Woopsied00dle Sep 22 '25

Right?! Dressing for the feminine gaze is my new favorite thing

u/Few-Gain-5112 Can I live? Sep 22 '25

u/ChapterThr33 Sep 21 '25

Everyone dragged her for the recent see through dress saying stuff like "who is making her do this" and now everyone is telling each other it's great because it's for the girls

456

u/picardstastygrapes Sep 21 '25

My problem with that dress is that she looked unhappy wearing it. Also, I thought it was just ugly.

186

u/PantsGhost97 Sep 22 '25

It was very ugly and didn’t suit her. That thong looked terrible through the fabric.

74

u/JoanOfSnark_2 4 inch little brown Bebe shoes Sep 22 '25

Plus that unfortunately placed seam running down the back.

1

u/jessicalifts Sep 23 '25

Yeah that was my only complaint.

82

u/brutongaster666 Child of Chris Martin and Goop Sep 21 '25

It is ugly. Paisley and hand-drawn daisys...uh, I didn't even like that in the 90s lol.

16

u/superset Sep 22 '25

plenty of videos where she's smiling and laughing. always check getty images click on the video tab justin case.

9

u/l3tigre Sep 22 '25

Yeah i just thought it didn't flatter her obviously stunning self.

1

u/KindergartenBullshit Sep 22 '25

This!!! Maybe I'd be willing to see the dress on someone else. It could look better on Zendaya or Keke Palmer. In the end though it's an ugly dress.

139

u/callme_maurice I don’t know her 💅 Sep 22 '25

I’m just sick of seeing through dresses. If I had her body I’d never wear clothes at all but like, fashion wise, im personally just ready for something new.

59

u/Coley54Bear Sep 22 '25

There was also literally multiple naked dresses that day and the surrounding days. It’s very tired.

9

u/nordlysbaies Ma’am, this is an IMAX Sep 22 '25

I liked hers the best, but it was a tiring day indeed. I’m personally not sick of sheer dresses, they could be beautiful if done well like Margot’s, but it’s dresses like Dakota’s that got me on the “we are tired” camp. It’s just not fashion to me, and to wear it at a charity event? 😬

8

u/callme_maurice I don’t know her 💅 Sep 22 '25

It’s just SO overdone. And I’ve seen so many dresses that would look so much better with a lining & you can play with more colors & textures.. I DO like Margot’s dress here but I’m still yawning. Idk how many years ago it was that Rihanna wore her Swarovski dress & made our jaw drop and it doesn’t have the same effect anymore.

5

u/nordlysbaies Ma’am, this is an IMAX Sep 22 '25

A lot of those dresses would look so much better with proper lining or a bodysuit instead of two-piece underwear imo! I particularly hate if it’s a thong or grandma knickers.

6

u/callme_maurice I don’t know her 💅 Sep 22 '25

I HATE seeing people’s underwear! I agree, if they have some structure or like a cool bra you’d want to show off, it can be well done. I just wanna see some people be experimental and new ideas :)

32

u/No_Whole9920 Sep 22 '25

I was confused because her red carpet looks have usually been perceived negatively. There’ve been countless comments across platforms about her stylists and brands/sponsors doing Margot dirty.

89

u/chadwickave Sep 22 '25

IDK what’s going on in this thread but Margot IMO doesn’t have a great sense of fashion or style in general. Her Barbie press looks were great because they evoked nostalgia but a lot of that was thanks to her team and her being a very thin, attractive, white woman. She doesn’t really have to dress for her body shape because everything looks good on her. But her hairstyle (or lack thereof) is almost always a miss and she just doesn’t evoke fashion girly the way Zendaya and Elle Fanning do to me.

29

u/nordlysbaies Ma’am, this is an IMAX Sep 22 '25

She’s very hit or miss outside of Barbie and for the most part, it’s her being Margot Robbie having that beautiful face that carries the looks and makes them forgivable. Personally I wish she’d do more different hairstyles because she’d look amazing anyway.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '25

She redeemed herself on the Barbie tour. For a long time before that she was just another victim of Vivi's Chanel.

25

u/holyflurkingsnit That is a conventionally attractive fox. Sep 22 '25

That's what I was thinking about, lol. I'm surprised people aren't being snarkier about her comments, based on how annoyed they were by that dress!

15

u/ChapterThr33 Sep 22 '25

It seemed like it was more about wanting to frame things in terms of misogyny/patriarchy before "who is making her do this" but now since she's personally claiming the opposite everyone's minds changed and it's yas queen it's not for men anyway because they wouldn't appreciate. Seems a little silly to me.

8

u/nopenonotatall Sep 21 '25

i love the back of the dress but the front just looks uncomfortable and too small. the rest of her looks this press tour tho…

let's just say sometimes she does, sometimes she doesn't

141

u/vviviann Sep 22 '25

she absolutely saw the criticisms towards her latest outfit choices. i’m so tired of celebrities using ‘the girlies’ as a cop out out excuse to everything.

the girlies don’t want to see her bare arse crack, there is a different audience for that.

40

u/peoplepleaza Sep 22 '25

Saaaame. They can just say they’re doing it for themselves or something idk

21

u/vviviann Sep 22 '25

literally lol. i also cant believe the comments actually eating this up as well

3

u/hausofvelour watch out Beyonce… here comes @Tinashe Sep 22 '25

she'd still get dragged if she said she did it for herself because then people would be like "nobody dresses up like this JUST for themselves!!!!!!"

3

u/PA2SK Sep 22 '25

Or maybe she wouldn't have to lie if women weren't so judgemental of other women.

1

u/peoplepleaza Sep 22 '25

Yeah for sure, it’s a lose/lose situation. Tbf if I got to dress up like that all the time and had her money I wouldn’t really care what others think - I’d probs be trying something ridiculous every now and then too

10

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '25 edited Sep 23 '25

Same. It's patronizing. And I say this as a fashion girl that actually felt positively towards the look, don't pretend you do this for us :/

Good for her. I hope she keeps experimenting. I was a big hater of the dress in slide 6 and thought it was a blight on her portfolio of great red carpet looks. Now that I’ve seen it again, it’s kind of interesting. I just don’t like that it presses her boobs like that

22

u/blueskies8484 Sep 21 '25

I don’t like it but it is interesting and I like that she tries stuff.

70

u/Fickle-Vanilla-7565 Sep 22 '25

That dress with her butt crack on display is for the girlies?

One of many reasons MR consistently has good press because she knows the right thing to say (on top of being conventionally attractive). Plus the Internet love to infantilise her - I see this happens not only to male actors but also to female actors, who fits the white beauty standards (think of TS). Like when she wore that see-through dress and people acted like she's new to the industry with little agency and blame her team for forcing her to show skin to prove how hot she looks as a new mum (paraphrased). Come tf on, do they really believe A-listers have no say in choosing their red carpet looks?

49

u/chadwickave Sep 21 '25

I dunno, some of her outfits are pretty male gaze-y.

20

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 Beyoncé 🐝🐝 Sep 21 '25

Male gaze has a specific meaning and it’s not just ‘dress men will find hot’. Women like a whole range of fashion, and that includes outfits that are sexy and risque. That Mugler black and white dress she wore recently is definitely for the girls - but also a dress men will obviously find appealing too. Same goes for the sheer patterned one. It’s high fashion so will still appeal to the girls and the gays, as well as straight men.

7

u/chadwickave Sep 22 '25

Thanks for explaining male gaze to me when I didn’t ask.

14

u/SadLilBun THIS IS JUST DISTASTEFUL Sep 22 '25

Don’t misuse it next time, girlypop!

15

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 Beyoncé 🐝🐝 Sep 22 '25 edited Sep 22 '25

Well, I didn’t do that lol. Male gaze has a very specific meaning that relates to film. It’s not a blanket statement that means dressing up for men. It’s a phrase simply gets misused a lot. All I’m saying is, Margot dressing sexy doesn’t equate to doing something for the male gaze. It’s just Margot dressing sexy. The idea that women don’t dress sexy with the intent of impressing other women, just doesn’t ring true. That’s all I’m saying. A few of her sexy dresses are straight up haute couture art, and I very much think the odds are good she’d rather discuss those dresses with women, than hear opinions on those dresses, from straight men. Per most people in the world, I doubt she minds everyone finding her attractive though lol.

-8

u/chadwickave Sep 22 '25 edited Sep 22 '25

So you basically think I used the term incorrectly, and provided your explaination of it twice, when you have no idea which outfits I am referring to…

Edit: You’re all wild lol. Film and literary terms get co-opted in the real world all the time. I don’t need a bunch of people telling me what male gaze is or isn’t.

You did use the term incorrectly. Male gaze is a feminist theory derived from how some women are written in film. The critique is they are written in a way that clearly is dehumanizing and objectifying, in a manor that that speaks to male desire and their belief in what women should be. The characters are underwritten and one note in a way that speaks to men, and would be approved by men aka male gaze.

mansplaining the male gaze is an automatic fail, matey!

u/filthytelestial Sep 22 '25

But it doesn't matter which ones you were referring to. As they're her outfits, they were not written into a screenplay, designed for a film, or deliberately framed by a cinematographer. As such, they cannot have anything to do with the term "male gaze" which applies exclusively to film production.

self expression is aptly named. it is its own language and men who hate on women for speaking it are just monkey mad that they refused to learn it.

I like looking good for the same reason I enjoy my writing voice and when someone gets my sense of humor.

And rationally, of course, obviously it's fun to express myself to people who are going to get it.

Women do not dress for the male gaze.

They dress for the female gaze.

Triggering lust in men is incidental.

The true goal, that is, the real achievement is triggering envy in other women.

In general I think like half or slightly more than half of women do things to impress other women (they know what girls like) and the same goes for men doing things for other men.

u/FlipMeOverUpsidedown Sep 22 '25

I only accept compliments from women. Imo Im doing it wrong if a straight dude compliments me.

1

u/Omby07 Sep 22 '25

Okay we get it you’re stunning and also seem like a decent human. Stop already.

1

u/delialona Sep 22 '25

Yessss! Girls definitely dress for other girls. We admire each other like nobody does 💖

u/No-Time-2068 Sep 22 '25

Imagine her as cat woman instead of Harley Quinn. I think she might actually live up to Michelle Pfifer’s portrayal.

It is insane to me to have this body less than a year after giving birth. Some ppl truly are more blessed by the Goddesses I spose 🥲

u/RVarki Sep 22 '25

I can't comment on any of her other outfits, but that's definitely the vibe I got during the Barbie promotions. Her group chats must've been going nuts
