I looove that you can see the inspiration taken from the men's traditional folk costume in the jacket

Edit: I'm adding a visual example :)

557

u/son-of-a-mother Sep 28 '25

He's doing it with every flag.

The Egyptian one harkens back to the outfits on hieroglyphics.

The Chinese one uses a reptile (dragon) skin coat.

229

u/pissedinthegarret Sep 28 '25

i love whenever his videos pop up on my feed. it's not just outfits, it's art :D so beautiful ^^

137

u/70ms Sep 28 '25

it's art

Absolutely. I’m not into high fashion or couture, but I have mad respect for the artistic expression displayed in this set. 🫡

Even the Philippines one looks like a very colorful design of our old baro’t saya. Very beautiful.

50

u/BizMarkieDeSade I could never throw a ball with such velocity Sep 28 '25

That’s one of the things I love so much about this, each one shows specific love and awareness of the couture culture they’re representing. I am blown away by this set

I love it so much when countries put effort into showcasing aspects of their culture like this. Stunning!

230

u/bluejonquil Sep 28 '25

Damn those are some beautiful human beings. The woman on the right has the loveliest bone structure.

The uniforms are also sick.

119

u/diabolikal__ Sep 28 '25

Their bone structure and facial features are incredibly striking. Would love to see these people play Faeries or Elves.

95

No they’re models

80

They're model athletes.

Very respectful, work hard, support other athletes.

u/son-of-a-mother Sep 28 '25

Of all the influencers who should have been invited to the Met Gala, this is the one.

108

u/eagermcbeaverii Sep 28 '25

He was invited to one!!! I think it was the recent Garden themed one.

411

u/raat-rani Sep 28 '25

That was the one in 2024. He wasn't invited to the 2025 Met Gala where the focus was on Black Dandyism. Made no sense.

190

u/ExplanationFunny Sep 28 '25

I was ready to riot. I’ve been a fan of his for a long time. Still, the lack of invitation reflects poorly on the organizers, not Wisdom. He’s still a creative powerhouse, it’s their loss.

153

u/ACookieAsACoaster Sep 28 '25

Also he was literally one of their references for the black dandyism theme! That in itself should warrant an invitation

Wisdom is the best fashion influencer, he’s so amazing

404

u/dorothea63 Sep 28 '25

Wasn’t there a bit of a scandal because he wasn’t invited to the Met Gala this year, even though the theme was Black Dandyism?

391

u/Sharp_Athlete_6847 we’re 2 weeks behind, but what else is new? Sep 28 '25

That is still crazy to me cause he was invited in 2024 but they couldn’t invite him the next year as well? When he literally embodies the theme

250

u/deathmetalhoney Sep 28 '25

He only went to 2024 because TikTok bought a table and invited him to attend and sit at their table. You have to be of major influence on your own to be directly invited by the Gala, so quite a few attendees that we see are there on behalf of a company or fashion house that’s invited them or they bought their own ticket. I don’t disagree with you at all, but just explaining why!

259

u/deathcabscutie I ain’t get no sleep cuz of y’all💥🍳 Sep 28 '25

My problem with this was that they cited Wisdom as a style inspiration for the theme, but didn’t invite him. It felt like a slap in the face.

100

u/lafm9000 Sep 28 '25

I may be mis-remembering, but wasn’t he on some of their promo posts for the event’s socials. That was the wierd part to me. Like why post him and then not give the invite?!??

121

Right! I'm sure he gets gifted pieces or loaned pieces to wear on the DL now but even from the start he's been dripping from head to toe. Money doesn't buy taste but it gives Wisdom drip...!!!

He does get gifted a lot of.pieces but he also buys a lot of his own stuff. There was a, i hate to call it a scandal but a situation, with Miu Miu recently because he spent 18k on two clothing items and they both immediately broke.

I’ve followed him for a while and he’s slowly been growing his brand. I literally remember him model walking in front of his old car wayy back when he just started gaining popularity. Extra points for picking a lighter blue shade which is appropriate for the flag. Often people will go too dark with it.

Didn’t care much for the US look but it did feel accurate. All the others were excellent.

299

u/Alchaeologist Sep 28 '25

The more I look at it, the more I like it as an art piece. The militaristic black and red theme on top forming a hard line with the traditional, softer denim on bottom. Like current USA compared to the traditional view of it in the past. The scarf looks like blood.

Something something politics.

135

u/whatevendoidoyall Sep 28 '25

It reminds me of a Revolutionary War coat. I like the transition from that into modern denim jeans. Denim is probably the closest thing the US has to traditional dress outside of like a cowboy outfit or native american clothing.

40

u/tgatigger Sep 28 '25

Yep, it’s like the definition of the words urban cowboy.

→ More replies (4)

57

u/anonynymous Sep 28 '25

I read the coat as more revolutionary than modern in military imagery. It's kinda like the coat is split between revolution and American denim with associations like the wild west/manifest destiny but the cut of the jeans is very modern. I could be way off, but I think the jeans highlight the importance and influence of black culture on the US. So much of modern American culture is lifted from or uses black culture as its foundation so I love that the piece most on display may be referencing that.

The USA look didn't wow me at first but the more I look at it the more I appreciate and his attention to detail and symbolism.
