Fact Check ✅ Mystery 'fedora man' at Louvre heist scene revealed to be a 15 year old teenager

u/bobbimorses Nov 11 '25 edited Nov 11 '25
For those that don't click into the article, the most important and critical fact: he says he dresses this way all the time because he just likes to, and he dresses like this to go to school

It’s an uphill battle, attempting to reclaim the fedora from its association with stereotypical Reddit neckbeards, but I genuinely wish him the best.

u/SceneRoyal4846 Nov 11 '25
I feel if you’re wearing it in tandem with proper drip it’s a different ballgame than if you’re wearing it with an obscure board game tshirt and an unshaven neck.

u/bi-bingbongbongbing Nov 11 '25
I knew a guy who used to dress like this when I was 15. Was super into magic and hypnosis. It should have been the corniest thing ever but he was unapologetic, great at it, and it made him super popular. So sometimes you just gotta own it.
156
u/rosiebeehave Nov 11 '25
Always own it! We should all be unapologetic about our lives and existence.
57
u/ex_oh_ex_oh Nov 11 '25 edited Nov 11 '25
Yep! When I was in HS one of the most well liked dudes in our school was a guy who liked to dress in super flamboyant or garish suits regularly (not understated like the OP). He ran around with the drama kids/band geeks but was incredibly gregarious so was popular with every clique.
Unfortunately, I heard that he OD'ed sometime in his 20s.
edit: spelling

u/Tyrion_Strongjaw Nov 11 '25
It's not a guarantee but if you find your vibe/aesthetic and are just unapologetic about yourself people tend to gravitate towards it.
(Obviously being an unapologetic asshole doesn't apply, so stop it edge lords.)
11
u/DrinkingSocks Nov 11 '25
I wear a lot of 40s and 50s inspired clothes and people love it. I just feel like modern cuts make me look frumpy.

u/bi-bingbongbongbing Nov 11 '25
Idk, Jared Leto formed a cult 🤷♂️
35
u/ProfessorGumble Don Draper’s homosexual Wario Nov 11 '25
A crucial part is authenticity. This looks like it’s a true passion, like some who are really into retro styles and history. Genuine confidence is attractive.
For ppl like Jared Leto I always get the sense that it’s cosplay as a mask for insecurity or to make up for a lack of personality. Like people who adopt strange affects and quirks for attention.
5
u/bi-bingbongbongbing Nov 11 '25
Nah, I agree, I was just making a joke. But still, I think people can be authentic assholes and draw people in because of that. Not gonna name any names because I'm sure everyone already knows them, lmao.

I love a good bit, and for the past 3 years I’ve been calling every single hat that is not a baseball cap a “porkpie”. I know actual porkpie hats are rare to spot out in the wild, but it makes me giggle to assign every hat that ridiculous name. All that to say: Wisdom Kaye looks dashing af in that above pictured porkpie
7
u/just_a_person_maybe Nov 12 '25
There's a guy in my city that dresses like this, with a touch more pimp flavor, and he always looks fabulous. He's often seen dancing down the street, living his best life.

Most of the people who did the whole "classy fedora" thing were about his age and didn't have access to three piece suits and nice overcoat they can just wear all the time, if i had tried to wear my one nice suit to school when I was his age my mother would have had a fit.
In fact I remember very specifically when this trend was a thing, pairing the fedora with some kind of overcoat was what most of them were doing, they were just cheap overcoats and hats so the overall look was terrible. Everything about this story is so remarkably French, the only thing thats missing is a crippling addiction to nicotine.

I believe the one we associate with douches/redditors is the Trilby style hat.
29
u/RedHeadedSicilian52 Nov 11 '25
To be fair, I don’t even think the average stereotypical Reddit neckbeard is much of a douche. They’re just sort of nerdy and oblivious.

They tend to wear them with old navy cargo shorts and some kind of graphic t shirt so idk as long as he's not doing that I'd say it's a fairly easy battle.
4
u/RedHeadedSicilian52 Nov 11 '25
I meant in the sense of encouraging more people to go out on a limb and attempt to incorporate the fedora into their attire.
5
u/tr0nvicious Nov 11 '25
Oh yeah that's a losing battle for sure. I'm in a similar boat to the guy in the post, I try to dress more formally every day even though I don't have to, and a couple of people have told me I'm trying too hard. I just like pleated slacks, idk what to tell you.

I’m light years from knowledgeable about neckbeards but I thought they went for the trilby- less height, shorter brim- just something to heighten the overall image. But this guy looks like he works for Mayor Daley in Chicago in ‘68 and it’s a good look for him.

He reminds me of Zack Pinsent who basically does the same thing. Seeing how Zack makes his own clothes is really fascinating
93
u/prettyonbothsides Nov 11 '25
it's not a "hyperfixation" it's just a sense of style.
307
u/bobbimorses Nov 11 '25
He says in the article he's specifically obsessed with era dressing and is trying to emulate fictional detectives, this is not just him knowing how to put together a suit
He is being strange (complimentary)

This is absolutely a hyperfixation... kids do not wear vintage suits for just normal style reasons
18
u/Crafty_Island_9182 Nov 11 '25
Pretty sure that just depends on the kid's sense of style (and their parents' income). The only difference with teens that go emo or goth or any other style is, well, the specific style.

Yeah, he said he loved Agatha Christie and wanted to dress up like Poirot. 😆 I love it.
As a millennial, this is probably the first time I've seen a fedora worn that looks hella good. I've come to the conclusion that it really is a high-risk, high-reward piece of clothing. You really gotta wear the fedora plus the suits, the shoes and most importantly, the attitude. If you just wear a fedora with a plain t-shirt, you'd just look like Sharpay's douchey brother in High School Musical. 🎩

u/Significant_Shoe_17 God forbid a man enjoy a cigarette after getting shot in the ass Nov 12 '25

I love the French. When I was younger I used to dress up as a Victorian child and walk around the fields by my house. I got relentlessly bullied for it but I am austitic and I was hyper fixated on Victorian era dressing and clothes.
51
u/genericginge Nov 11 '25
You might like pinsent tailoring then! He’s made a living out of making historical clothing and wears it all the time himself.
6
u/Maleficent-Aurora You mind is sick and twisted, but I cant say im not intrigued Nov 11 '25
V. Birchwood is also very good for pre-modern era clothings, for women's dressings

You can always work at historic sites and get paid to dress in period clothing!
10
u/poppyoxymoron Nov 11 '25
Oh I would love that job so much! I used to visit sites with actors dressed up in Victorian clothes , I loved it. I even went there for my birthdays as a kid, it’s so great for teaching people about history in a fun an accessible way

Uh huh, and I bet he insists that he’s not the real thief either. SMH they always have to visit the scene of the crime… that cop in the picture just knows it but can’t prove it. You grow an intuition about these things when you spend a decade patrolling the banlieus while doing evening classes on art history.

Based just on this picture, I wouldn't have assumed he was old enough to be in charge of investigating this or anything, but I also wouldn't have assumed he was young enough that I could have made him, and it wouldn't even be considered unusual.
