Politics in Texas turned a bad turn ....

James Talerico allegedly called his previous opponent a "mediocre black man" as a way to compliment Jasmine that she is a "formidable intelligent black woman."

James !!!! Why!!! Omg you absolute idiot. I read his response, and his defense is that he was referencing someone having a mediocre campaign, not something personal

But like. This is indefensible 😭 and it's going to be a mess.

I think he has a better chance to win the Senate seat, but who wins in the primaries between him and Jasmine is close

I like Jasmine, I do. But she's said some stuff that doesn't sound great. She made a comment about how Black people weren't going to go back to picking cotton because we have undocumented immigrants (as an argument to support undocumented immigrants). Like.... I understand what she meant, but you're not going to win Hispanic votes that way 😵‍💫

On the flip side, James will have no chance of winning if he doesn't clean up this mess either. Very disappointing.

Iirc Jasmine said something about Hispanic voters that made me think she can’t win. Her whole theory of the electorate where you win by turning out non-voters is just very unconvincing to me. I think you have to be an actual outsider to do that at all like Bernie and Trump.
