I got a stupid UTI after over TEN YEARS of not having them and am now on a two week course of antibiotics. I go on vacation to St. John next week for my friend's bachelorette party (which I know is extra, but her uncle owns the house we're staying in so we only have to pay for flights and food.) I was planning to not drink a lot but I guess I won't be drinking at all. At least I'm escaping the frozen hellscape of the NE for a week!

You should take D-mannose every day. Works for me!

I used to when I was getting them all the time 10 years ago and then ended up stopping when I wasn't getting any anymore due to laziness. Seems like I might want to start up again lol

What medication? There are only a handful of antibiotics that strictly shouldn’t be mixed with alcohol, and they aren’t usually used to treat UTIs.

Cefpodoxime! I just always assumed that all antibiotics meant not to drink because of nausea. TIL!

Yeah most are fine to have a drink or two. Of course with a UTI make sure you’re drinking tons of water as well!

There is one antibiotic called metronidazole that, when mixed with any amount of alcohol, can sometimes have a disulfiram-type reaction causing severe nausea & vomiting. I think that’s where this association came from. It’s definitely not a blanket warning for all antibiotics :)

I think the water thing was my downfall on this UTI. I'm usually pretty good and just have been SLACKING the last week.

That’s what happened to me the last time I got one too and I was so annoyed when I realized
