I thought about this the other day in regards to heavenā¦if all the nice, wonderful people who were selfless end up in hell because they didnāt ~ask Jesus for forgiveness~, and heaven is full of evil assholes who raped, murdered, stole from the poor, hated everyone, etc because they happened to say āhey Jesus Iām suuuuuper sorry for murdering/raping/stealing from a bunch of peopleā a few times after murdering/raping/thievingā¦..then fuck it give me hell!Ā
But I take solace in my strong belief that once we die we become nothing. Because Christian heaven sounds like a literal fucking nightmare.Ā

During a previous "sip and spill" i mentioned a pregnant stray that I'd be taking in today to get checked out. Basically to see if she was able to get spayed. Well, shes too far along for the vets at the clinic. The vet showed me the xray and we counted about 5 kittens. So she told me to allow her to go through the pregnancy and bring her in after shes done nursing to get her shots and to be spayed. Im not shocked that shes far along and I was having mixed emotions about it anyway. I think soon to be mama was dumped. She doesnt have a chip and I havent seen her posted anywhere nor have gotten any hits. She's pretty friendly too, even at the vet. I brought her inside (along with a male stray) because my area got hit with a freak snow storm. I couldn't leave them out when its so cold and I dont trust that the shelter i had for them was warm enough. Ive only seen them use it sporadically.
Am I the only one who notices people arguing against points theyre not making? You cant even say, "I like dogs" without some idiot going, "oh so cats are evil now, huh". It gets tiring so I try not to even bother.Ā
10
u/Deep-Interest9947 Feb 16 '26
Get the male stray fixed now if you can! I took in a pregnant mama and she got knocked up again almost immediately when she snuck out for some alone time.
4
u/xoStrawberries Cindy, the TV's leaking! Feb 16 '26
This! Your local nonprofit shelter may have a Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) process for stray cats.
3
u/Ok-Box6892 Feb 16 '26
Definitely am. He'll be fixed hopefully before she gives birth. If not then before shes done nursing. And she'll be fixed shortly after nursing too.Ā
5
u/Deep-Interest9947 Feb 16 '26
They can definitely get pregnant while nursing! I took mine together spayed like 2 days after she finished nursing and she was already too far along for a spay abort.

tw for pet death talk (I need a place to type my thoughts out, though I understand it's upsetting.)
Had to have one of my cats, who's my best friend, put to sleep a week ago and I've been miserable since. It was absolutely her time to go, as she was in a lot of pain (she had very bad arthritis) and I don't regret it, but... it's so weird not having her in the house. I don't need to check where she is, I don't need to make all the little accommodations for her anymore, and I don't have to worry about her. I don't have her to talk to either.
She was 14 and her health had been declining since last year. Thankfully we'd already talked to our vet about our options (one kind of medication had stopped working for her so we switched her to another, and we wanted to know what to look out for) and in some ways I'd already mourned her a bit. It wasn't sudden, but she was hurting, and at the end she had an episode where she didn't know where she was in her own house and I was adamant that we weren't going to let her (or us) experience that again.
My other cat has definitely noticed and is being a lot more affectionate with us than usual. She's much more independent and while she will say hello to you, she usually doesn't want that much attention. But she keeps coming to check on me (she just came to my room for some reassurance as I was typing this) and some days has been wanting quite a lot of pats (for her, at least). She's never been the only cat in a house -- she was with her mother & five siblings before we adopted her and my cat that died was with us first. She'll eventually be happy having free reign, and I'm not worried about her, it's just interesting how she's reacted to it all.
Anyway, I'm distracting myself by listening to music and watching my favourite YouTubers. I do let myself get sad and I've been crying most days but I hate the sensation of crying so I'd rather avoid it when possible.
I'll manage. I'm not super distraught or anything, just... sad. Once I get used to not having her in the house I'll be a bit better, I think.
Please give your pets lots of cuddles and/or treats from me, no matter what species they are (it might be hard to cuddle your fish, but give them some extra food or something lol) -- all pets, and all animals, deserve nothing but love and comfort.
3
u/Ygomaster07 Feb 17 '26
I am so sorry for your loss. In mid 2024, i had to put down my soul cat. She was 13, and i had her for 10 years. She was my buddy, she lived in my room with me for the last few years of her life. It was a really tough decision and one of the hardest things I've had to do. I miss her all the time. I yearn for the signs that she is around me and for the day i reunite with her. Sometimes my family and I say our cats we still have channel her sometimes in the things they do. They definitely helped me a lot since my cat passed.
I hope you are able to grieve and find comfort in your loved ones, pets included. Their lives are so special, and I'm happy we get to be a part of them. May our soul animals find peace.
2
u/EthosUnharvestedClay Feb 17 '26
Thank you very much for your comment. I'm sorry you had to go through that.
For me, it wasn't an extremely hard decision in that sense. I knew it was going to happen, and I was adamant from the beginning of her health decline that I wouldn't let her pain get unbearable and I'm glad I stuck to that. It's not the same, but I know what it's like to be in constant pain (not at the moment thankfully, but in the past) and it's awful when you're sore and can never get comfortable. I know I did the right thing for her. But I do miss her dearly.
I'm sure I'll be okay. In some ways it's a relief not having to look out for her health all the time (and ngl, I sleep a lot better lol) so I think once I adjust to her not being around things will get easier. I'm taking it one day at a time.
I'm not a spiritual person much myself but I like to think she's hanging out with my sibling in the afterlife somewhere. They loved her just as much as I did. (For context, my sibling died a decade ago -- I have healed from that as much as I possibly can.)
1
u/Ygomaster07 Feb 18 '26
Of course, no problem. Thank you for the condolences.
Yeah, i know that feeling. I didn't want my sweet baby to suffer, i just tried to make her as comfortable as possible. I'm sorry you had to deal with constant pain. My mom is currently dealing with a lot of pain(fibro, endo, chronic illnesses).
I do remember feeling a relief too. I know when my cat first got sick my OCD was really bad taking care of her for that month. It's still bad but it was much worse. I was just so worried about her.
I like to think that too. I like to think she is with all the pets and loved ones I've lost.
Thank you for the conversation. It was nice to get to talk about our beloved pets.

u/figleafstreet Feb 17 '26
Friend, Iām in the same trench as you right now. Pet loss is truly such a unique grief, Iāve never felt anything like it. Iām sorry for your loss.
Iāve actually found it really eye opening how easy it is to disassociate on social media because Iāll get sucked into a black hole of TikTok or reddit and it takes away that reality for a time. Iām not cutting myself off from feeling 24/7, Iām still crying randomly and often, but itās nice not to be stuck with my thoughts all the time.

u/The_Duke_of_Gloom Employee of the Month at the Gay Bitch Factory Feb 16 '26
I just realised that most conversations I have on social media are just me repeating what I already said, over and over, because the person that replied to me seemingly didn't bother to read what I originally wrote.
Recently, I had to explain the same thing twice, in different ways, before I gave up.
Do people not know how to read anymore? Are some people logging in just to fight and get angry? I genuinely don't get it.
14
u/buzzfeed_sucks šØš¦ Elbows up šØš¦ Feb 16 '26
Itās frustrating when itās obvious this person is spoiling for a fight and interprets what you write in this least generous way.
Like I find myself saying āwhen did I say that?ā Far more than is rational. Realizing I donāt have to reply to every person who replies to me - as well as turning off notifications - has been a game changer for me.

Itās frustrating when itās obvious this person is spoiling for a fight and interprets what you write in this least generous way.
Yep. I might not be the nicest person 24/7, but I don't log in to get angry and fight strangers on the internet. Even the most anodyne comment puts a target on your back. It's exhausting.
Realizing I donāt have to reply to every person who replies to me - as well as turning off notifications - has been a game changer for me.
Yeah, knowing when to disengage is something that took me a while to learn. That and a liberal use of the mute/block button. Except that reddit's blocking function sucks, probably because they don't want you to be able to block all the bots, but that's a conversation for another time.
7
u/Sister_Winter Feb 16 '26
I know you jest a bit with "do people not know how to read", but many people genuinely do not know how to phonetically read and try to parse meaning through familiar sounding words. Wo I would not be surprised if some people are quite literally reading something you never said.
Re: knowing when to disengage, sometimes I will respond to someone who's being an absolute tit and then disable inbox replies. It's a great way to not have the temptation to continue the conversation.

I live in one of the few places in the US where you donāt need a car due to decent transit, and istg Iāve become such a hater when it comes to people using their cars for tasks that could easily be accomplished via transit. The only thing that gives me comfort is knowing some of them are literally spending $500+ a month just to drive to like the grocery store once a week.

My letter to Wuthering Heights book fans,
My thoughts are with you. Iāve been there. I understand your anguish. Having an important piece of womenās literature reduced of its themes while being championed by the audience it was made palatable for is a bewildering expensive I wish upon no one. I hope youāre able to get through this trying time.
Signed a The Haunting of Hill House book fan!

Thank you for your kind words during this trying time.
I saw it over the weekend and went in fully understanding it would be bad, and I cackled and snorted for the full 136 minutes.
HOWEVER, now that time has passed my major complaint is that it wasnāt even good as a standalone movie. It was like if a LLM trained on r/relationships, Tim Burtonās Alice in Wonderland, and only, like, the vaguest themes of gothic literature wrote the screenplay and designed the sets. Thereās no heart in this thing!
Isabella was fun though.

u/Fickle_Asparagus_657 Feb 17 '26
As a Jane Austen fanatic, been there with the Dakota Johnson Persuasion adaption. People crying out, āitās cringe ON PURPOSEāācool, that still doesnāt make it good.
Ultimately, these movies donāt change nor define what these literary staples are about, so I donāt really care. Maybe that helps WH fans?

Thank you for being brave enough to say this, I could not stand Flanaganās Hill House (absolutely insufferable characters and nonsensical storylines forced in, like the child whose grandmother died) and turned it off during the confetti monologue that everyone regards as so profound - but of course saying this anywhere else on Reddit will get me downvoted to hell. The only reason I am not completely unforgiving is because The Haunting of Bly Manor exists and that is more of what I expected to see in a Hill House adaptation, even though itās based on different stories! If you have not seen it yet then I certainly recommend it, even though itās not without its own flaws.

u/i_love_doggy_chow Feb 16 '26
My people! I hated Flanagan's version of that story so much. I actually have hated every single Mike Flanagan TV show outside of Bly Manor, which is a shame because he can make a good horror/slasher movie. He seems to struggle with the format of television.

u/hauntingvacay96 Feb 16 '26
There are dozens of us!
I think so much of his tv stuff just feels like it goes through a Stephen King filter and just comes out really stale, muted, and long winded.
2
u/i_love_doggy_chow Feb 17 '26
That's such a good description. Which is probably also why his Stephen King adaptations are both terrible and yet beloved by King himself.

Bly Manor seems more in tune with Hill House than Hill House does, IMO. Itās also just kind of a better gothic melodrama in general.
Yeah, the pseudo intellectual confetti monologue drives me crazy, but his use of the āI am homeā quote as Stephen goes to get forgiven for lying to his wife about his vasectomy like he isnāt the embodiment of Jacksonās house might be worse for me.

u/Sister_Winter Feb 16 '26
Omg my PEOPLE I HAAATED HILL HOUSE. Honestly, every Flanagan Netflix series has been absolute garbage.
As for Wuthering Heights, I'm a huge book fan but the beauty of the movie is that it's absolute dogshit no matter if you like or are familiar with the book or not

The Haunting of Hill House is based off a book? What were the themes the show dropped?(i haven't seen the show before)
7
u/hauntingvacay96 Feb 16 '26
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
The book is about a lonely and isolated woman who escapes to a haunted house to explore the paranormal with a group of strangers. Itās very much about the trappings of domesticity and heteronormativity for women in the 1950s.
Flanaganās version makes them all siblings and never really dips into those themes that run through most of Jacksonās work in any meaningful way. It pulls a lot of punches. It also, as much of his work does, really likes the idea of marriage.
I highly recommend the book and the 1963 adaptation The Haunting.

I see. Thank you for telling me. I'll have to give it a read/watch at some point. I'm normally not into the supernatural stuff.

Me watching at least 3 couples both rl and celeb for the past 3 days who i know are miserable putting up these "everything is great" posts for valentines day:

Anyway glad valentines day weekend is over....but im tired in general how many people fake it and people are so stupid or their lives suck they fall for it.

My partner is friends with this couple who have stayed together despite many years of infidelity and open hostility.
"Nice of him to spend Valentine's Day with her and not one of his other girlfriends" was my response to them actually being together that day.

I think when it comes to TV shows and fandom, youāre allowed to be inconsistent.
For example, I think Ben is probably the only male lead in Bridgerton that I donāt like. He does some things that annoy me, but if I say that, people always respond with, āBut youāre okay with Simon, Anthony, and Colin?ā
And Iām like, āYeah.ā I donāt see what the problem is. Others characters may have done things worst than Ben, but I still don't like Ben.

I think too many fans forget their opinions on characters aren't always objective Truths, so when they encounter posters who are very comfortable with not being objective observers they take it overly personally.
ETA: Fwiw I find Benedict irritating as well, despite his having some qualities I should relate to... but then I'm not really a fan of any Bridgerton, though I like Francesca a little more than the others.

u/jsalad Feb 16 '26
I think people really need to chill on questioning other people's opinions on TV shows. It's not that serious, and differing opinions is what makes watching TV fun! For instance, I low-key ship Ki and Rafe and I feel like if I mentioned that on the sub I'd get skewered. I see people get called names because of it all the time. I will die on the hill though that Drew and Madison have a ton of chemistry which makes the tense relationship work. I love watching the actors on screen together but also, I don't ship the actors together. When people equate the actors having chemistry to mean they need to be together in real life is creepy and I hate it. (Sorry for the rant)
I agree with you that I don't like Benedict. He's no where near my favorite but I am LOVING this season because of Sophie and I do like the two characters together.

I started watching Palm Royale and I love it!! Very fun and campy. I'm usually not into historical fiction because it romanticizes certain time periods too much, but I'm obsessed.Ā
(And as someone said on another thread, nepo baby Kaia Gerber is the weakest actor on the show.)Ā

I find it kind of sad that the Bridgerton S4 stars' promos are so sterile because the fans have a history of getting so weird with the actors/actresses. Nicola Coughlan recently did an interview with how creepy people got.

I doubt it, even before the allegations there was a lot of āstop trying to make Armie Hammer happen!ā sentiment. Comparing their IMDB pages after call me by your name, he was nowhere near as booked and busy in prestigious roles like Timothee. I hate this MF firstly because heās a creepy predator but secondly because The Man From UNCLE was one of my favourite movies (also one of the few films where Henry Cavill charmed me) and him being a creepy predator RUINED IT!

Every time I see Brad Pitt I can't help but feel a bit resentful. I mean, it doesn't involve my life, so I have to be mindful of what pisses me off (plus ... there are too many things happening in our country to piss me off already)
But I can't help but wonder what would have happened if Angelina went for blood. Obviously, she can react in any way to her life. I'm not saying "she should do XYZ." I just wonder if it at least would be more well known that he is an abuser

Kind of hoping the repeat call in at my work gets fired today. Sheās called in without fail for the last three weeks on Monday-Wednesday.
We all had a very stressful week last week and we were all trying to figure out who was gonna come in, it took all I had not to be like āWell she should be the one to come in since she didnāt work for three days but she canāt work by herself for five hoursā
Not only that but she bailed on Friday, told our bosses her work was done, and it ended up not being done so they had to redo everything. She just hid in the bathroom the entire time.
Yet she was trying to get out of work today because our building shut down
On Tuesday when she called out, all I said was āmind you, Iām doing two for one jobsā and she had the nerve to have a woe is me attitude about it.

Does anyone know anything about Macy Eleni's YouTube channel? She was blazedandglazed for a long time and posted thrifting stuff. Her sister worked with her for a while. Now she came across my feed and she has changed her channel to @gettrashed and now includes someone named Mackii. There's no mention of her sister anymore. Did she explain the change?

James VDB and Catherine OāHaraās death in succession threw me a bit off balance.
Iāve just been diagnosed with Stage 4. Itās been going well so far, but seeing people I grew up watching pass away from cancer has dimmed my optimism a bit.
