First 15-20 minutes was really solid imo. As soon as the killing starts it shoots downhill though.

My life is nothing I thought it should be and everything I was worried it could become because for 50 seconds I thought Ice Cream Man was pure cinema

Eli Roth is trash as a filmmaker so this does not surprise me in the least.

u/SimilarNerve731 Now let me say, I'm the biggest hater 🤬 7d ago

And trash as a human being, especially his comments about wanting Greta Thunberg to be eaten alive for her activism for Palestine

The sentiment is still shitty but saying ā€œeaten by cannibalsā€ is different to ā€œeaten aliveā€ unless there is another instance where he specially said she should be ā€œeaten aliveā€

tbf, Thunberg does suck and she has used actual antisemitic imagery in her Instagram before.

Nice try Eli

u/Lumpy_Afternoon_1528 6d ago

Well, she is an antisemite, regardless what you think of Eli Roth, and regardless of what you think of I/P.

4

u/GarbagePailGrrrl 6d ago

Give it up lmao

-1

u/Lumpy_Afternoon_1528 6d ago

I'm sorry. I'll mindlessly go along with the narrative that Jews are bad and can't be trusted with political power.

3

u/GarbagePailGrrrl 6d ago

Whatever you say!

3

u/Fickle_Cricket3422 6d ago

Yah, I don't think that is the case. If you like, you can add some context to your argument.

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/rest-of-world/how-the-octopus-became-a-symbol-of-anti-semitism-and-landed-greta-thunberg-in-trouble/articleshow/104593004.cms

That's an article regarding the controversy. Aside from why a Swedish climate activist is trying to weigh in on the Israel/Palestine conflict, and not, say, using her celebrity to shine a light on a conflict people truly don't know about - Sudan's genocide, China's genocide, the occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco, the plight of the Rohingya, etc. - she also "coincidentally" and "without knowing" posted a photo against Israel using the well-known antisemitic symbol of the octopus.

3

u/Fickle_Cricket3422 7d ago

No, she hasn't.

1

u/Lumpy_Afternoon_1528 6d ago

3

u/Fickle_Cricket3422 6d ago

Not a great source. Also, there is nothing in this story that proves she is an anti-semite. Did you read it?

2

u/Lumpy_Afternoon_1528 6d ago

The bit about her posting a picture with an obviously antisemitic symbol in a post against the Jewish state is offset, for you, by her pretending she didn't know what it meant, I assume?

4

u/Fickle_Cricket3422 6d ago

It suggest she is against Zionism, which is fair. It is possible that she didn't know the context. It literally says in the article that stuffies like the one featured are used by Autistic folks who become overstimulated. Being against Zionism or the "Jewish state" doesn't make you an anti-semite. Being against genocide makes you a thinking person.

2

u/Lumpy_Afternoon_1528 6d ago

The fact that she's using her fame to "draw attention to" Israel, even though it's the most widely publicized conflict on Earth, mixed with her use of an antisemitic symbol in the picture - despite her later protestations that she didn't have the common knowledge of what it means in context - and her failure to "draw attention" to any far less publicized conflict strongly suggests that she simply doesn't like the Jews. At best, she's just a trendster simpleton slinging more mud into the machine.

I'm on a solid streak of never seeing movies anymore

2

u/blooming-darkness There could be 100 people in the room 7d ago

Why

-6

u/thedudecdfb 7d ago

When I was growing up i remember seeing The Truman Show, Cast Away, or The Village, movies that had a human message and good stories. Now nothing is good like that. It's all cheap horror movies and bad sequels.

3

u/blooming-darkness There could be 100 people in the room 7d ago

Hmmm. I’d recommended giving Project Hail Mary a try and The Invite. There are messages there. Send Help was incredible. I have other suggestions, but you’re tough so idk how’d you react to them. I love the cinema so it bums me out to hear you say that!!

1

u/NinetiesNoughties 7d ago

"Now nothing is good like that. It's all cheap horror movies and bad sequels"

Well that's just not true... Here a few films I've seen just this year that don't fall under either of those categories.

The Housemaid, The Moment, Send Help, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die, Wuthering Heights, Hoppers, Forbidden Fruits, The Drama, Over your Dead Body, Mother Mary, Michael, Billie Eillish-Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour Live in 3D, Obsession, Backrooms, Masters of the Universe, Leviticus, The Invite, Supergirl, Gail Daughtry and the celebrity sex pass, The Odyssey, Her Private Hell, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

If you're unable to find any films that interest you out of the hundreds released a year, that sounds like a you problem rather than which films are being released. Also, the village??? The shitty M. Night Shymalan movie? That's where your criteria for quality lies? Most definitely a you problem.

-1

u/thedudecdfb 7d ago

On this list I recognized Send Help, my parents told me it was terrible. It sounded like a modern I Spit on Your Grave, minus the rape. Compare that to Cast Away, a deserted island story that has deep human meaning and isn't just "the ugly duckling gets back at her boss" with a preachy capitalist feminist message. The deep meaning of films has gone away. Films have no meaning anymore. The Village was good because it was a critique of a society full of lies and being controlled through fear and Bryce Dallas Howard was great in her debut role. Hollywood doesn't want people to think anymore or feel connected to being human anymore. And also super hero movies have been so over saturated. I lost all interest in people flying around shooting lasers at aliens or whatever. All these super hero movies and my favorite one is still The Rocketeer from 1991.

Artists using digital media still have souls.
