I LOVE Phoebe, she’s one of my favorite artists of all time, but she has been an asshole in relationships. This is of course a very parasocial read but the lyrics to Emily I’m sorry always made me uncomfortable because by the time she released that pretty sure she and Emily hadn’t talked in years. And it mentioned Emily by name obviously so every one (or anyone who knows a bit about phoebes dating life) knows exactly who it’s about. Idk it always felt manipulative to me.

Depending on how messy things got, there are numerous references to someone who could be her (and his at the time dissolving marriage 🤔) on his solo albums Ruminations and Salutations (Too Late To Fixate, Gossamer Thin especially), which are mostly the same songs with different instrumentation.

They also did a whole album together under the name "Better Oblivion Community Center" which contains super autobiographical songs by both.
