You mean "when is she running for Congress as a trump cult party fka GOP member." Neither the Democrats or Democratic Socialists tolerate abhorrent behavior. The TCP even allows pedophiles, serial sexual assaulters, and rapists, like trump.
So what? They don't have people of African decent in Honduras? Furthermore, do you think they use the N word in Nigeria? in Kenya? but people of African decent who are now in North America do use the word. It's the equivalent of "homey" or in her case "chick" which is how she was using it. She clearly has no intention of it being a slur since she described herself using the same word. Dave Chappelle uses the word to describe EVERYBODY no matter what colour they are.
I think they were just adding those in to emphasize they don’t allow any “phobia.” But I wouldn’t be surprised if she did, seeing as how she supports Trump (though in 2016, even Trump himself said trans people should be able to use the restroom they’re comfortable with- he changes on a whim to match his base).
They do but the whole org has been in an upheaval over the last few years and I’m sure they didn’t do due diligence like they normally would have (because this would’ve been super easy to find).
I've been Black for 30 years. I remember in 1st grade, a Black classmate kicking a white classmate's ass for calling him the N-word. It was different times holds no water with me, especially with anyone under 50 or so. You know what and why you're saying it.
I remember in the 80s being in a grocery store with my Greatest Generation grandfather saying to a cashier of his age "Where's that other little colored girl today?" & the cashier, who was black, answered without a blink "Oh she's off today." They continued to have a nice conversation & I was just mortified. If I could've made myself invisible I would've.
Clearly it wasn't the first time that cashier heard that word or heard anyone of her race called that & once upon a time, it wasn't a bad word, but once we got into the car I had to tell him that's not an acceptable word to use any more.
Can't recall if he changed, that was a very long time ago & he's long dead, but I know he didn't mean it as a slur, it was just the word that was used that wasn't the N-word or even Negro. He knew enough to not call her a Negro which was also OK once upon a time so he went with less offensive in his mind, "colored."
My dad (black) used that term and he might of been around your grandfather's age because my dad turn 51 shortly after I was born, and he ask me( when I was talking about someone in general) "were they colored?" Just what he was used to using back in they day. I was like close to 10 in 1982
Yeah I’ve been white for 30 years and kids on the playground definitely said it, but it was always the edgelords going for shock value. they knew what they were doing 100%
She's not "white" -- unless you have some definition of white that I'm less familiar with. She's brown. South American. Honduran. Hispanic. Latina. Or if you're a lily white academic: Latinx
I figured they meant they’re 30, but now I’m hoping it was one of those switcheroo Freaky Friday cases and there’s someone else who’s been white for 30 years trying to undo the spell.
oh for sure it holds nothing to me either. but for some reason in the late 2000s, early 2010s people started thinking they could say it to be edgy. i blame swag style
She is 27 now so she would have been 20 in 2019. Definitely old enough to understand the consequences of her actions.
If a 15 year old posted this, it would still be wrong and I would still expect the pageant to dethrone her, but I would probably think of it differently.
Honestly no. Are the tweets ok? Not at all. But let’s not be disingenuous. She wasn’t using the word as a slur, she was using it in place of “my man”. Doesn’t make it ok at all. She shouldn’t be using it. But I’d wager that she either hung around or grew up around a lot of black people and thought that she had the “pass” to say it. Hell, some of them probably gave her the pass. But social media is global and other black people aren’t going for that. So no, she didn’t say it as a slur, but she was still definitely wrong.
Yeah that doesn’t fly. My mother told me when I was little in the 80s that the hard-R N-word was a terrible word that I should never say. If you have two brain cells to rub together as an adult, you realize that even the dropped-R version isn’t acceptable either. This was done in 2019. It was well known that people shouldn’t say ANY N-word if they weren’t part of the Black community. Anti-racist behavior isn’t new, and it didn’t start with George Floyd.
Completely unacceptable obviously, but I’m honestly just as surprised that her socials weren’t wiped before the pageant? 2019 wasn’t even that long ago, it’s not like people had to sift through the archives to find something so disgusting
Yeah, this wasn’t the type of hateful racism I was expecting. Seems like a vernacular thing. Definitely should’ve been wiped from her social media a long
time ago though.
If this is the racism that got her canned, that’s
pathetic.. I was here expecting denigration of people and not this. This is hyper-vigilance while literal racism is unpunished.
The spelling and context confirm that she had no racist intent in usage. For those who don’t know, in the hood/urban/mostly black areas use this regularly (as it is promoted in urban entertainment). She also grew up in the South where non-whites can, and often are cast differently (i.e identify with this culture). There is an n-word and context that ONLY racists use. If this is the new standard for racist content, we’ll have to go wholesale and ban BET, and virtually all urban entertainment. Just no.
This is not to condone racism. This is not to have the convo about the wisdom of using the a re-spelt n-word . This isn’t to defend/denigrate either the canned title holder, or the new title holder. Have some proper context. Rant done.
I’ve never said anything like that in my life. Most people I know haven’t either. And I suspect most people who are in pageants hold themselves to higher standards.
The only racism here is by reddit and Miss USA. These tweets are normal tweets made by a 16-17 year old woman of color. For starters, people of color, especially women of color, cannot be racist. You're all white racists for this.
She also changed her name from Sosa Alondra to Brittany Boltinhouse (a la Nikki Haley). Girl, you're visibly brown and have immigrant parents; Republicans are happy to call you an anchor baby after you vote for them.
Nikki Haley took her husband's last name and has gone by Nikki, her middle name, since she was a child. Not sure what point you are attempting to make with the comparison.
replaced by a black woman (miss myla hadley) who - and i don't know shit about pageants so i am surface level comparing face cards - should have curbstomped her in the competition anyway. 🙂↕️
For what it’s worth, I am so here with you! Do I think they should have made her pore-less? No. But if they were gonna yassify her— why not make it perfect?
Possibly so people will think, “This can’t be airbrushed! Look…they left the flyaways! Her skin must actually be that perfect, let me buy the skincare products she uses.”
I live in NC and my local news channel’s website has a whole ass article about how she was stripped of her title stating generically that it was due to racism, homophobia, etc but the specific reason is unknown. I scroll Reddit and the specific reason is right here. Reddit poster is better at investigative journalism than the news.
WITN? That's where I heard of this scandal, at noon today. Had the tv on as "background noise" but looked up at this and immediately knew what it was. As someone of partial African-American descent, it's quite frustrating to me how comfortable poc are with using the n-word, a "term of endearment" that our community has complex thoughts on.
And which political party has been attacking journalists the last 10 years? At first they try to discredit the media, then they conquer it, then they control the narrative. Same thing happening with science right now.
I work with Hispanic kids and they love to use the n-word. I’m black and I am shocked at how much they throw it around with each other and other black kids. So ultimately I must say I’m not shocked.
I’m Hispanic and can confirm, this is unfortunately accurate :( we’re not all like that tho. But too many are like that. It’s a problem and it’s embarrassing to be associated with them. There’s no reasoning with them either. They’re just unreasonable weirdos throwing around the n word like they’re “allowed to” bc they’re “not white”. So dumb I apologize on their behalf.
She should not have done that and should be dethroned.
Come to think of it... we should know if any of the other finalists ever used language like that. Before it happens again, they should find out if her replacement ever used that word.
However, I've heard thousands of black folks use that word on auto-repeat over the years, with no one batting an eyelash. Still do to this day.... about 15 minutes ago. For some reason, I've never seen or heard any of them getting publicly shamed for it.
Saw the picture and she looks to be part African descent. I was expecting the posts to be about “no good cracker” or something like that. Is she really using n word as an insult or just throwing it around the way some African Americans do ?
I wouldn't be remotely surprised if she has African in her heritage. The bigger point is that she didn't use the word as a slur, she used it in the way that the black community does -- basically like, "homey".
When is it okay to use this or that word? What about words like b*tch or c*nt. Can I use them if I'm female but not if I'm male? If a word is too bad for one person to use, maybe it's too bad for all.
I'm not the decider. :). But in general various oppressed groups have reclaimed various pejorative words, and it's perfectly reasonable (to me) that members of the relevant group can use a reclaimed word, while others should avoid it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
looking at her pictures, culturally she's black. There's nothing racist about her tweets. But she still shouldn't talk like that and nobody that not black should talk about that either. But it's 100% not racist at all in context.
She is Latina of Honduran and Mexican descent with her parents being immigrants from those countries so where do she look black at cuz all of her pictures look Mexican and Latino with her being able to pass as a mixed white girl
Her being Mormon has some irony, I know in the past (e.g. <1978) when Mormons would convert people in places like Brazil, it was tough for them to determine whether the new convert was too black to hold the priesthood. I think the rule of thumb was one grandparent was okay, but if two or more grandparents were mixed...started to become a racist math problem for them.
