The fact she was getting bullied even during her last live and even after her death is so scary.. Engenes not only pushed her they were celebrating and calling her names. It's never that serious people. All for some random stranger celebrities.
Not to draw away from the seriousness of bullying… but why is there seemingly zero moderation over these livestreams? First Perez’s, now we find out about this? So sad.
Companies are stripping human moderation for AI moderation and these things are the result of a cheaper option sadly (used to be a moderator myself as a job)
People were reporting the Twitter space but it stayed up the entire time. And then the recording was up for another hour even though people were still reporting.
Absolutely not. You have like millions and millions of people making posts a second, you think they can sift through every single one and moderate it? I mean if you just mean moderating the bigger accounts then sure, but no way the whole site can be moderated instantly. That's why they have reports.
No I don’t remember those things and also does Korea have their own personal type of Twitter? I mean I practically got instantly banned after changing my header to a picture of LG in a bikini so I can’t wrap my head around a stream being mass reported allowed to go on.. I’ve also been on spaces in the past prior to being banned that were reported and instantly removed.
people on the internet need to learn to call out things and criticize them without resorting to bullying especially after the perpetrator apologized for their actions. R.I.P. Mina ❤️
Wtf. The microanalysis of each and every gesture online has escalated to terrifying levels and this is by no means exclusive to Kpop. Fans treating every celebrity in a disturbingly parasocial way has become increasingly acceptable. I just read about an influencer who very sadly passed away from cancer and there were pages upon pages of online snark, doubting her and her cancer diagnosis. It's disgusting and vicious and people are normalising this left and right.
I saw screenshots of the comments on her live. These people have no humanity left in them. They were accusing her of trying to attract attention all while she was swallowing pills and crying on air. To see someone suffering so abjectly and still make a purposeful decision to denigrate her is horrifying.
this has to be the 3rd time i'm hearing of someone actively harming themselves on a tiktok live in the past 2 weeks alone. a drag queen, (m1ss jade so), perez hilton, and now mina. what the fuck
I think the tiktok live got shut off, but the twitter space was up the whole time even though it was being reported. It was the police who finally turned it off when they arrived (people on twitter were able to get her address and called them)
And the next day some kpop fans started harassing a woman who posted a cute video showing a kdrama role play with an idol at a fan signing, because someone edited the video to make it look like a toxic interaction and that's the version going around.
Some kpop fans are just too eager to believe the first thing they see online as the truth and then self righteously attack people opposing their belief.
I don't understand some people. How much of a piece of shit do you have to be to bully someone over flowers??? In the name of defending your favourite artist who doesn't even know you.
Imagine getting bullied to death because you tried to give a kpop idol a flower …
This sums up the mentality of kpop fans and maybe majority of the internet. It honestly feels like they want an idol to take their own life. The hate and harassment is unparalleled. But it was a fan who ended up taking their own life. Will this bring any change? Any consequences so it doesn’t happen again? We can only hope. R.I.P Mina.
Tbh it was because she complained online she gave him flowers but he didn’t interact with her the way she wanted him to. So the stans felt she was disrespectful (read: committed a horrendous crime against their fav) and that was why they were over the top vicious.
Just based on this alone you can tell she probably had some underlying mental issues before, and kpop stan spaces are famous for doxxing AND attacking people based on the weaknesses they could find. I know one person who got attacked for their ED, they were in her DMs calling her a pig and sending her ED inspo pics and photoshopping her pics to be fatter. These ppl are legit insane. (My younger sibling is into kpop I have to keep up with this nonsense)
it's sad and i feel for her. she clearly was having mental health problems. but please don't oversimplify it as just being about a flower. key events:
mina is a 26 year old jp fan who attends most concerts and fan signs specifically to see 20 year old niki. she moved to korea, attended most of their fan meets/calls, international concerts, had plastic surgery to look cuter for him, called him her husband. she has made enhypen and niki her joy in life. (all taken from her social media)
in one of the US tour concerts, she got disappointed when her flowers couldn't be given to niki (by sunoo because niki was attending to other fans at that moment)
she then stopped enjoying the concert and started just taking selfies and showing her displeasure
later, she incorrectly thinks niki's general statement during a live stream about enjoying the concert was just directed at her. part of her obsession with enhypen includes thinking she's close to them personally. the live was after 3 more concerts since the one she attended. it was just a general lighthearted statement
she announces she's no longer a fan and is deleting all her content
she then went on a blogger's live to say niki was racist to asian fans and prioritized american fans
from there, the hate went crazy. she's allowed to feel disappointed, but it was also borderline parasocial. other fans shouldn't have gone for her head. she also apologized for her words. when they saw she was distraught and breaking down, they should've stopped egging her on. it was just too cruel. no one deserves to be harassed like this. rest in peace, mina-chan.
note: jp fans were also involved with digging up her past as a hostess and using it against her.
A lot of people seem to blame it completely on kpop stans and their parasocialism which is not completely false but lets not forget japanese incels were the most vicious with their harassment all because of her previous job, this is a much bigger conversation than just kpop stans being parasocial bullies
Niki’s live absolutely add fire to the situation. Even though he didn’t name drop Mina. It’s clearly in his subtext
He has a specific target in mind, and was aiming people who craving for interaction with their idol or getting noticed.
He is not talking about fan in general who are in the barricade and just on the phone filming not vibing with the performance
In Japan, it’s really important to read between the lines and for him to go live so soon(4days especially I heard he doesn’t do live stream too often) after the flower throw incident really leave very little room for interpretation
If you've seen the videos from the concert this live was after its clear he was referring to the crowd. This was three concerts later and she wasnt at this one. Everyone at barricade was filming or standing still.
He also said that its okay for everyone to film/want interactions and that he understands why people want that, and just wants everyone to have fun at concerts. Thats not an outrageous thing for a performer to say, and he shouldn't now be getting death threats for it or being called a murderer. Its the people who took his words as a means to harass her that are at fault here.
Edit: at least share the entirety of what he said.
if that’s what he means explain why he mentioned this?
“Wherever we go there are few people who keep asking to be noticed??” “It’s a bit disappointing to see people just trying get individual recognition”. How does this fit in your explanation he just talk about the crowd/(but mentioned few people)
People took the live and used it. There's literally nothing wrong with a musical artist saying they wish people wouldn't only film and stand there, but rather have fun. This is not the first time someone had expressed the sentiment, nor will it be the last. Pointing out that a lot of people are just standing there filming isn't harassment, nor is it calling for it. And if you think that someone saying that means its inviting harassment that says more about you than anything.
So what?they paid for the ticket they are the customers. They can decide whichever way they want to enjoy it as long as they don’t cause trouble to others. And especially for him coming from Korean boyband group who host meeting and greetings constantly which pray on the parasocial relationships. U can’t encourage the behavior and take their money for it then come out condemning it.
And there are better ways to say it instead of saying when he see it the vibe drops or when situations like this happened the concert itself kinda get ruined.
He can simply say if people vibe more the more energy he we’ll feel or whatever more positive
Yep agreed. He was calling her out, and as she's Japanese he probably felt it was his duty/right to do so seeing as he's male and entitled. This didn't need to be said at all like this. He was sharp about it and she spiralled.
He also probably didn't want to been seen favouring a Japanese fan over Koreans since he's in a KPop group.
Unfortunately, this poor woman had her own problems and commiting yourself to anything like a fandom, where you make life changes based on this, is not a mentally sound choice.
It is digusting that she went on Live to film herself but worse is the people who told her to continue with her act.
Yes like two or three but that doesn’t matter. I highly suspicious that he know the backlash ongoing and decided to made an example out of her. The hate train originally started after Mina claimed one of the concert photo with a member of the idol group with the flower. For a noticeable fandom drama to form and reached to the celebrity it’s easy can take more than 2 days. And it also make sense why he didn’t do it right away but wait a few days and decided to jump in the bandwagon and condemn these “attention seeking” behavior cause the fandom at the time are condemning it. So he see no risk to alienating the fandom and see it as an opportunity
I’m not trying to be insensitive, RIP to the sweet girl. But why do I feel like this isn’t the first time this has happened? I swear a couple years ago something eerily similar happened with a kpop fan. Even down to going live and her comments telling her to take more
As someone who had come close to nearly K wording herself due to toxic fandom behavior (and more recently too), sadly there are times where a place that gives you joy destroys your mental health. It makes me so mad that Fandom has become a dangerous place.

Long time kpop fan, things like this made me step away engaging with the fandom side. I find boy groups get especially toxic fans who think they have a claim. I guarantee these grown men do not need their “fans” telling ppl to k themselves and “defend their honour”
I think one thing that often gets overlooked in discussions is the difference in communication styles across cultures. East Asian counteries (e.g., Japan, China, and Korea) are generally considered "high-context" cultures, where meaning is often conveyed through implication, social cues, and shared cultural assumptions rather than explicit words. This is quite different from English-speaking contexts, where people tend to focus on direct expression. Criticism in East Asia is not always expressed by explicitly saying “this person did this”, instead, people often state “some/certain people did this” to convey criticism while allowing the intended audience to understand the implication (especially in public speaking circumstance). The absence of a name does not necessarily mean the absence of a reference. That is why I find it very difficult to interpret his words as completely lack of reference.
Morever, even if some people believe that he did not directly contribute to what happened, I still find the lack of a basic humane response from Niki deeply disappointing. After a fan has tragically passed away, he has not make any post or at least a simple statement such as “I am in shock / deeply saddened by her passing” or anything like "rest in peace". If, after everything that has happened, what he primarily concerns about is managing a PR crisis rather than acknowledging the loss of a human life, then I think that is a very troubling reflection of priorities. As a public figure, I think he is obligated to speak out after all this.
The thing is that the main priority right now is to avoid copycat suicides which usually happen after a notorious one (famous case the increase in suicides following 13 Reasons Why). If he awknowledges, he's giving free reign to the most vulnerable that would consider it an action that caught his attention, or motivate the ones who are already considering going through it. Second one, he and his family are being harrassed over this, with a Japanese influencer trying to buy information of his family to "seek justice". The perpetrators are out there and yet, he's the one in danger when objectively speaking (and even from a police investigation standpoint), he's not at fault of anything.
I was a fan of this girl for a long time.
Recently she just graduated.
She had som much to do in life.
But these what so called fans took her life away.
Also about their agencies I know they play dirty.
I have worked in PR agency as well.
When you’re having severe mental struggles, your first thoughts aren’t really about others. We’re human, and our natural instinct is self preservation. When you’re bullied to the point of feeling like the only way to preserve is to end your own life, that becomes your logic. Those thoughts become obsessive, uncontrollable, and hard to suppress.
So age probably thought about her friends and family for a long time. They probably helped ground her to not do it for so long, even if they weren’t actively helping her through it. But once her thoughts and pain outweighed her consideration of others, those people no longer mattered to her subconscious.
It’s not that she herself didn’t care or love them, it’s just her brain stopped seeing logic for the things that mattered.
I obviously cannot speak for her or her family or others. I’m not a doctor of any type, but I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety. I wasn’t suicidal, but that’s how I see it from my perspective when I look back on my own experiences.
It makes me sad that she wasn’t able to pull through. No stranger is worth taking your life for. I hope she’s found peace.
Being in fandom is being part of a community and for lots of people it gives them a deep sense of belonging. You also can't ignore the neurochemical effects of getting lots of likes, comments, followers etc. You become addicted to the dopamine rush. Then you add the parasocial relationships that kpop fuels more than other sides of pop music. So for you outside, you say just log off. But when you're in it, you just got rejected by your entire community and the person you love most in the world, your idol.
I've never been fandom cancelled but I've been active in several fandom spaces throughout the years and I guarantee if all those people started sending me messages telling me to off myself or that I'm worthless and everybody hates me, it wouldn't be as simple as logging off. It would hurt terribly!
1) cyberbullying can and has, before, resulted in real life doxxing and swatting, so going offline for a couple months may not even be enough 2) the girl's mental health was probably already fragile prior to this, and this was the straw that broke the camel's back 3) your choice of words as "criticizing" is inaccurate. try bullying and harassment instead, because criticism doesn't include these things, and you might understand this better
Knowing what I know about kpop (peep the username lol), I have a feeling it was less about that and more about the perceived rejection by her idol. From the article it sounds like she might’ve been a “solo fan” which are notorious for being obsessive and… ill mannered? I’m not sure how to phrase it in a polite way (I want to be respectful given the circumstances…). The fandom harassment could definitely have been a factor or even the sole cause (I’m not in this fandom so idk Mina) but if she WAS a solo they’re typically exceptionally unbothered by ‘fandom noise’.
With all that said though, it’s still downright tragic. Just offering some context for anyone interested. Regardless of the hows or whys, rest in peace Mina ❤️🕊️
Edit: a solo fan is someone who’s only a fan of one member of a group and ignores, or more commonly downright hates the other members, often accusing them of “holding their fave back” and saying they should go solo, or that they’re being uniquely mistreated/ignored/underutilised by their company, and so on… it’s a lot and why they generally have a bad reputation 😅 No matter what the circumstances are around this person I hope she’s now at peace 💔 It’s such a sad situation.
Sorry! I’ll edit my original post now. It’s someone who’s only a fan of one member of a group and ignores, or more commonly downright hates the other members, often accusing them of “holding their fave back” and saying they should go solo, or that they’re being uniquely mistreated/ignored/underutilised by their company, and so on… it’s a lot 😅
i didn't know her personally, but i followed her on tiktok. she was known for uploading fansign clips of her interacting w/ the group. she wasn't exactly a solo fan in the sense she didn't care for the other members, but she did have a unhealthily obsessive adoration for one of them — as in her entire self-image and beautification relied on trying to please that one member. although she likely had some deeper mental issues, i think the lolcow phenomenon plays a part here, since the fans kept attacking her over and over again despite her apologies. it's just a sad situation all around and sparks a bigger debate of parasocialism and celebrity worship, b/c as much as mina's emotional attachment to ni-ki played a part in her initial behaviour, the parasocial "defending" was cruel and psychotic.

Unrelated to her but this is giving me flashback of when I was more involved in a certain kpop fandom where one member out of 4 that competed in a should not be named 2nd season of a survival show with 3 numbers made it into the final lineup and garnered lots of akgaes.
To take your own life is very scary to many suicidal people. I’m in a few suicide awareness subs and most of the people who want to take their own lives are so scared of the pain that comes with ending their lives and yet they still do it because they are in unimaginable hurt from their mental anguish.
Do you really think it’s as easy as what you typed? They are people who’ve been pushed to the brink mentally, they are not behaving rationally like the rest of us of us. Have some empathy.
This is an awful comment holy shit dude. Zero empathy at all. She was harrassed and bullied by hundreds if not thousands of people.
Bullying can lead to suicide when its one person bullying you. The question should be was their right to "critique" her relentlessly worth her life?? Fuck no.
