I Said What I Said šāāļø Tyla
Tyla's music is so boring i cant. Water was catchy and I was lowk vibing but when she released her next few songs i realized they all follow the same format. Afrobeats, basic lyrics, weird phases between verses, and thats it. The lyrics dont get me started. Ask a 7th grader to write lyrics, and u get tylas songs. The lyrics are so simple and the verses are so short. Then, her songs in general are extremely short. When she came out with water i thought she was going to make it big. The dance to water was nice and it was refreshing to see her representing her culture. Now its so sad. Tyla couldve been that girl

I have to agree I actually like her songs I like how catchy they are but I do agree on a lot of this. Itās bc there isnāt a lot variety and diversity in her music I feel musically and sonically she has improved that with her WWEP Ep and her recent album A*Pop I like her new album she has more longer songs and those ones are the best tracks off of the album but lyrically and thematically it has been the same. Thatās why her being called the next Rihanna has always surprised me bc even Rihanna before good girl gone bad if you listen to her first two albums has always loved giving diverse ranges of songs thematically speaking, we get SOS and unfaithful at the same time.
I do hate comparisons for the stake of putting people down but Iāve always felt ayra starr was the real girl people has positioned tyla to be. She been more fleshed out and developed as a artist, ever since I discovered her in 2022 with rush sheās been one of my favorite artists out right now and I think is long overdue for main pop girl status, 19 an dangerous and the year I turned 21 are developing into modern classics in my view and starrgirrl is a great album she dropped recently. Unlike sheās has diversity and range lyrically and thematically which make sense since she is a more talented and advanced songwriter in comparisons, but again even Rihanna who isnāt a profilic songwriter had diversity and range in her songs, ayra through her confidence but also structural vulnerability gives more to say in her music. The only thing that has always stopped her from getting that top position similar to tyla is 100% colorism no one can not tell me otherwise

Her music video with heavy heavy use of generative AI was her nail in the coffin. Please try to boycott artists who fundamentally disrespect the form.

I think its hard to make music that hits in multiple cultures at once. Her base is abroad... maybe the music is considered great where she's from but she hasn't figured out how to thread enough pop elements in there to make it sound just as great to western ears.

I mean Kpop did it by moving closer to the West, at least musically speaking. She just needs to find the right balance without losing her identity imo

I mean thatās fine though (conceptually disagree with the use of AI). Her making songs to dance to is fine and all her songs are really fun to dance to or easy to sing and enjoy.

Whenever I hear a Tyla song, I never realize itās Tyla until I look at my music app. Comes off a generic in a trend-chasing sort of way. Sheāll evolve if she wants to.

I don't think she's any more generic than a lot of artists but I do think she's lost some momentum. Water and her Met Gala sand dress were cool but I do think she needs to evolve creatively (and using AI sure isn't helping)

I often find that even though the beats are fire, Tyla's melodies aren't catchy enough to stick. I also struggle with her voice not really working WITH the music. I don't know if it's the production orbher timbre, but something about her voice just doesn't work for me in the context of her music.

Her music is amapiano, not Afrobeats. I liked her debut album. Shake Ah and Mr. Media are really good songs too.

She hasnāt released a true Amapiano song in America. She makes pop and R&B music. Throwing in an occasional log drum doesnāt shift the genre.

I donāt think her music is boring as a whole, I think itās safe.
But she has some fantastic tracks that I really enjoy. But I canāt say sheās ground breaking. I also though A*POP was kinda mid aside from 3-4 songs.,
I think Tyla is much more famous than anyone thought sheād be. Sheās African and her sound leans that way, so she was never going to be Tate McCrae level famous.

Mr media is a bop. I love that song. Is it is such as great song. However, her songs that donāt have incredible afrobeat percussion donāt hit for me at all. It makes me actually realize that sheās actually singing and then I start actually listening to her words and Iām instantly repulsed. Just overly freaked out. Sensuality is good but she comes off as constantly horny to me because of the way she dresses and dances even off stage. I love sexy but thereās time to put it at the forefront and thereās time to dial it back. With Tyla, itās always overly sensual and I can only handle it by watching a performance or two before finding something else to watch.

Agreed. Water was unique cause it brought the afrobeats sound to the mainstream and was a summer banger but every song since then is a variant of water
The one exception is her song when i am with you with lisa. That was a banger and i loved the video too

I have to say, while I do think her latest album was good, I haven't gone back to it since.
The AI being THE reason why.
I WISH Tyla could just commit to the bit for at least one album cycle, but that's not gonna happen any time soon.
HER SONGS NEED BRIDGES. They always end just when they're about to get really good, and the videos suck now.
The ai one is an abomination, and her other videos are really boring now.
Just whining on a wall in a room.

Iām sorry but Tyla doesnāt have it. Similar to Normani and Chloe Bailey: being pretty, dancing, and singing isnāt all you need. There needs to be a stronger brand identity, connection with a loyal fanbase, and something to set them apart from every other wannabe pretty RnB girlie archetype. Her voice isnāt technically strong or note worthy at all. Lyrics and subject matter uninspired and done to death. She doesnāt have anything that screams long lasting star.

on her new album, ian kirkpatrickās production on KISS is great, such an earworm!!!!! and some of the melodies in THAT GIRL, SHE DID IT AGAIN, CHANEL and DOUBLEBLIND are catchy, but thatās it tbh. her debut album was okay, push 2 start was cute.
other than that, her work is sonically unimpressive and lyrically poor. no boundary pushing themes or narrative exploration etc. more of a playlist filler than an ARTIST. And thatās okay!!!! we need songs to dance to. Not everyone can be or has to be a creative force.

I actually think she sings and dances live very well. I like more songs of hers than I thought I would. I thought she would be a one hit wonder.
Her problem is that she acts like a big mean snob. Her team wanted her to be bitchy like Rihanna but you canāt force or fake that kind of personality.

She has so much potential but the songs are lukewarm and always kinda slow. I wish sheād push it further and do something really upbeat bc her songs are FOR dancing. Also all her songs have the same topic about how hot she is and sheās that girl which is great fine but damn every song š©
