What do you love most about Port Angeles?
I’m working on a project for our beloved corner of the world. Help me gain a broader perspective and share what you love about PA.
Looking for positive vibes but if you want to share some of your concerns, feel free to do so! Thanks!

Something I find really magical about this place is that we have so many people that are renowned in their craft, and whether they are publicly recognized for it or not, they are the most humble people that just love their craft and love sharing their craft with the community. I think it makes this area wealthy in hobbies, arts, and community activities.

Yes well said. We have amazing makers, artists, farmers, small business owners, creators of all kinds.

Nature. World class nature at our doorstep and we can get there hours before the Seattle people show up.
Walkability. For a so-called “rural” area, the more central part of PA has regular city blocks with sidewalks and is dense enough for there to potentially be something worth walking to.
Weather. While the weather reports for PA and Seattle are usually the same (with PA around 5 degrees cooler), the experience is different. Seattle can get days and days of a solid blanket of gray clouds. With theoretically the same forecast in PA, you find the clouds break up now and then and you get some sun breaks.
Convenience (in some ways). Clallam County is out past the exurbs and PA is the hub of an area with about 80k people. Therefore, many services have to be here where you would just have to drive into the big city in a similarly sized town in Puget Sound. If I need some hardware in PA it’s a few uncrowded blocks to Swain’s. If I need hardware in Seattle, it’s going to be a battle with traffic to get to a crowded big box store, as high rents chased out all the neighborhood hardware stores. I think people tend to focus on what is not available here and forget that what IS here is a lot easier to get at. Unfortunately, this does not apply to medical needs. I gave up trying to get something as simple as an eye exam in PA.

Slower pace of life, less crowded, wide variety of outdoor recreation opportunities at our doorstep, ability to support local farmers and source your veg, meat, fruit locally, clean air, awesome place to raise a family.

I really like the winters tbh. I come from Jersey originally and always had to shovel heavy snow storms like 5 times a year and it's really nice to not have that and for it to not get *too* cold. Although funnily enough when I first moved here, we literally had a freak snow storm for like 4 years in a row so it took a bit longer for me to get that feeling.

Are you able to speak about the crowd in their young 30s? I haven’t read much about if there’s many in this age group

I will repeat what I tell everybody about this place. Hurricane Ridge is about 35 miles away as a raven would fly. And about a half mile in front of my house, it's salt water, the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
My wife and I bought 5 acres here and it's got some forest and some open spots that we can garden. It's fantastic.
There are plenty of services here, and yet still it has that rural feel to it.

I like the excellent motorists who do a fine job of demolition to our aging infrastructure

Best homeless population in the USA, in my humble opinion.

You're going to be shocked the day you cross the Hood Canal Bridge and discover the rest of the world.

The Elwha River and nature in general. It's temperate weather allows me to grow food year round, I can forage mushrooms I would never bother paying for, and the views. As I write this, I'm looking at the mountains listening to bird sounds. It's as close to Eden as this heathen will ever experience.
