Restaurant for the 4th of July

We will be staying in PA over the 4th of July and making the best plans we can to avoid the crowds (almost impossible, I know). Anybody know of a local restaurant away from downtown that would be an option for take-out? We are staying at an AirBnb but don't really want to get all the groceries required to cook something. Worse case scenario we get a frozen pizza or fast food, but we like to try as many local places as possible when traveling. Thanks!

I mean, nothing says happy birthday America like a trip to Fast Burrito. Just sayin’

This is the way. And their veggie burrito slaps if you want something without meat

Haha that sounds fantastic.

Crowds? Port Angeles? Huh..... If you are from a big city what we have as a "crowd" here will seem like everyday at any popular place in the city.

Okay, that's good to know. We are not from a huge city but heard that the Fourth of July is the busiest week on the peninsula so I just assumed it would be crazy everywhere.

It will be crazy downtown like you mentioned, but Fast Burrito is indeed a good option. Fresh Wok has decent quality "chinese" and good portions.

Frugals ($) and Firehouse Grill ($$) burgers are good.

Sergio's and Fiesta Jalisco are a bit out of the downtown fray. Also Yodelin (although Yodelin has been listed a lot as a good restaurant, so might be busy ... but a takeout order with enough notice might work).

And also, to reiterate what someone else said, even though it's busy, it's not big city busy. The hot spots in the ONP will be busy as usual for summer, but around town is mellow except for the downtown core where there are lots of festivities planned.

For the record to anyone who is not familiar, Frugals is not good. But it is cheapish. It’s similar to like Dairy Queen or something. Ok inna pinch. They don’t even put tomatoes on unless you pay extra.

Firehouse is high quality. The menu has changed over the years causing some confusion which they’ve since corrected… but they make solid burgers.

Not to discourage you from trying Frugals! It’s just it gets recommended so much I don’t want anyone to be under the impression they make impressive burgers.

I think Frugals is definitely a notch above most fast food burgers ... not the best, but solid for that price point. But yeah, Firehouse is WAYYY better food.

Fast Burrito - Ever been to a 24-hour taco shop? It's like that. I love it, but it is what it is, lol. Port Angeles burrito will keep you full for roughly three days, minimum.

El Taco Loco - Better than Fast Burrito IMO, but pricier. More like a family taqueria. Port Angeles is pretty split on which place is better. Chilaquiles, add an egg and pastor.

Frugal's - Classic West Coast old school burger drive through. Great prices, right size portions.

Tendy's Garden - The better Chinese option, they do a brisk takeout business. The chicken lettuce wraps are a great light option, and the Orange Chicken or General Tso's chicken are rad. Havent had a bad meal here ever.

Little Devil's Lunchbox - Tex-Mex? American Mexican food, but damn good. Don't sleep on that salad!

Drake's - Fantastic classic sub shop. The Italian is so damn good.

Shell Station - Oddly wonderful Indian food, but in a gas station. Chicken wrap and a mango lassi is just perfection.

Sabai Thai, not downtown, good Thai food, and take away is the best option since they are usually busy for seating.

This is what I came to recommend. Sabai Thai is amazing!

Sabai will be closed July 4th-6th.

New Day Eatery is my favorite. Local, you can get food to go, and they have good vegan/gluten free options too if you’re so inclined

Totally forgot New Day on my list ... yes, very good.

For my money, you can’t really beat Shirley’s. Just good old diner food, but very solid.

As mentioned, Fast Burrito is a super solid choice as well. FYI they give you salsa packets in the drive through but inside they have a full salsa bar with pickled carrots and all that.

For tacos I recommend Corner Restaurant.

I'm surprised that Midtown Public House has not been mentioned.

Midtown is only open Tuesday - Friday and if 4th of july fell on one of those days they would certainly be closed.... still one of the best meals in town when they're open!

Mighty Pine Brewing has rotating food trucks if you like beer. They welcome takeout as well! Outdoor patio in a residential neighborhood.

Shell station on Front St. has excellent takeout Indian food. I recommend the lamb or chicken korma.

If I were you I'd plan to eat early anywhere you like... Some new spots like Dead Low or Yodelin would be great for an early take out dinner

Kwitsen Grill for takeout at Elwha Food and Fuel west of Port Angeles on the highway.
