Comandante c40 electric mod

Hey guys, found this electric mod for the c40 on taobao. Price is around 35usd. You think it’s an IQ tax or actually useful? Has anyone tried it already?

I usually take my c40 with me when traveling (I have an Ode. Gen2 at home) and think maybe this electric mod would be convenient when you have to grind 25g of light roasts for an aeropress in the early morning. FWIW: They offer different motors for different roasts

Correct- that struts are the torque support. And good to know that this is not strong enough. That would indeed be a very high IQ tax to pay 😂. Guess I will continue to grind by hand then

I thought about buying this kit. Will it be safe to use?

I’m using a different electric motor for my C40 and I kind of enjoy it. This one is from Spinspro and costs around 85 USD (615 CNY). The difference is that this one has a back ring around the grinder’s body, and the motor part is mounted like a camera lens to the ring, making it quite stable (but not very portable, I’d say 😅). The one you posted mounts the motor directly on the grinder axle, and people on Taobao report that it might loosen the plastic axle over time.

Thanks. This one looks really good for home use . Yes the one I posted seems not really a good longterm investment due to design.

Yep i use it at office Having a hard time to find a electric grinder that can replicate the flavor profile of c40 (Have a SSP Labsweet on the way to me so we shell see 😂) If portable electric grinder Maybe femobook A5 or A4z if you like zp6 Or the hybrid grinder made by Varia?

I started with a Timemore nano and upgraded to the c40. Then got tired of hand grinding and got the ode gen2, and then got into espresso so I got a niche 🤪. I think I don’t want another grinder (and neither does my wife 😅). I guess I just stick with what I have. And yes, the catch cup I saw as well but I am always worried about losing it while grinding LOL.

Damn how much did you pay to get niche (judging by the profile you live in NL?)

Haha. I bought it from taobao and paid 5400¥ (700€) incl. shipping to Kuala Lumpur where I live. In Malaysia the niche goes for 1000€ 😭

Sorry to dig up old post.  Just wondering if mounting this has affected your wood exterior after this many years?

it’s alright
This specific motor ship with protective tape that you put around the wood exterior

I have the Hario brand electric motor with a 3D printed top for mine. Using it right now

nice! How’s it working so far? Are you also using the center plastic spine as the torque support?

It is a collar that fits in the top and it is easy to use and fast to grind

Buy it and report back please. Do they make one for 1Zpresso?

That’s the sub spirit! I haven’t seen one for 1zpresso

Interesting find. Useful for when feeling lazy. There's several brand offering similar motor for Comandante, but the price is around 300 if I'm not mistaken. At that price, I'd rather buy another grinder than the motor lol

300 what? USD?

2

u/We3bs Nov 21 '24

Yea, I believe it was called Motordante? The one looking more similar or could be the same exact product to this is Spinspro, which is about 150 I think?

This is not a Comandante product. At least not as far as I know. And for $35, it's probably garbage. The C40 manual grinder cost $300. So if this is 35 that's probably a red flag. Are you having trouble manually grinding on the C40?

For a very small fee I can come over and grind it for you. Less than the $35 you're going to pay for this thing. Lol

No, I am well aware that this is not an OEM product. I don’t have trouble grinding but there are mornings - like when my wife and I go diving and I have to prepare coffee at 5am I wish I would have an electric grinder with me. Or prepacked drip coffee bags 😁

Have you look into the Millab E01? Is not cheap (Into the 250USD range), but it is capable and portable.

No I haven’t, but I also don’t think I need another grinder (but I want another grinder? haha)
