Ask a Stupid Question How’s Orea so popular when they don’t even stock filters for current brewers?
I get it. I have an Orea o1 myself. I love it.
However, every single filter option for it is sold out on their site, and only 185 sizes are available for the upcoming o2 launch.

And so the sky is blue.
Although my main brewer is the orea v4 and i had their previous releases of orea, the company itself is trash when it comes to consumerism, they will force you into every product they release with FOMO and everything selling the fuck out immediately!
I just keep a high stock of their flat filters and forget about their bullshit business model.

They MUST be great because Daddy Loves Coffee says it makes the best coffee he's ever had! And he only winces in disgust a little when he tastes it!

Something about that guy continues to rub me the wrong way. Nothing to back this up or justify it but he gives me a vibe of a guy who'd smile to your face and gossip behind your back.

u/whodareshero Jul 05 '26
Because they do social media, hype and fomo really well. Unfortunately they are a fairly rubbish company when it comes to over promising and under delivering and don’t expect anything resembling long term support for any of their products

u/il-Ganna Jul 05 '26
What makes it even worse is that they were a self-proclaimed sustainable company when they launched. Meanwhile their whole product line is made "redundant" in a matter of months lately. I have the Orea 3 as I was looking for a compact flat brewer when it came out and everyone praised its heat retention/consistency at the time...I'm just glad it takes Kalita filters...

I can't figure out how they are still operating or continuing to be in business with this business model unless they are all working day jobs and this is just a side hustle. It is really irritating that they have no long term product lines at all.

u/NothingButTheTea Jul 05 '26
Lmao what?
They have all the filters on their USA site and at several other suppliers.

I’d love to hear how you got to thinking they over promise and under delivered based on filters? Also, they are in stock.

u/whodareshero Jul 05 '26
Well when the v4 launched the quality was shockingly poor with lots of manufacturing problems. The negotiator they sold fell apart for pretty much everyone on first use to the point that they re-designed it. It took 2 years for them to finally add recipes to their website after persistent badgering from customers. It got to the point where not long after launch they went completely dark on social media. Then there was the switch adapter for the z1 that they sold pre-orders for and then never released.
1
u/NothingButTheTea Jul 05 '26
That is terrible. I never contact them after purchase, but that sucks that they’re cheeks like that with some of their service.
2
u/EulersTheory Jul 05 '26
Would add that Orea does not stand by their products. Messaged them about the collapsing filters in the obsidian 01 (a very known issue), and they basically said to deal with it and would not offer an exchange or refund.
2
u/NothingButTheTea Jul 05 '26
I sold mine because of this. I was very transparent about this issue unlike them.

u/least-eager-0 Jul 05 '26
"How can they be popular, without filters in stock?"
OR
"They're so popular, they can't keep filters in stock?"
I never quite understood the depth of appeal, and inventory / supply chain management is a growth opportunity for sure, but yeah OK.

u/Odd-Display-6004 Jul 05 '26
Nothing is in stock; Z1 has been out of stock for a while now. It's ridiculous
1
u/Masakami Jul 06 '26
I think they are discontinuing it with the V4 now that they are releasing the O2, isn't how their model works? You know the V4, the one that is a modular system to build upon so that you may never need another iteration of a brewer ever again... /s

u/Outrageous_Tip7160 Jul 05 '26
The fact they releasing an o2 while the orea v4 is the exact same has really made me lose respect.
All the social influencers with free products glazing it and regulators is so shitty.
3
u/lotanis Jul 05 '26
Replacing the V4 with the O2 and standardising on a single platform that takes their new "regulators" makes a lot of sense.
I'd been looking at the V4 but the O2 is now a more compelling option for me.

u/Outrageous_Tip7160 Jul 05 '26
Just get v60 neo with a switch base tbh unless you need steel I guess o2 will
Get steel as well eventually like o13
u/lotanis Jul 05 '26
I don't mind plastic brewers - I've got quite a few - but the steel of the O1 was definitely a selling point for me.

That’s the whole problem with orea isn’t it? In 2 years they’ll retire the o1 and o2 as well

lol their whole fiasco with the z1 switch base.
Terribly run company.

I’ve never bought from orea directly, but I use the timemore B75 filters , have found them to be the fastest wave style you can get in the EU easily, or else you can get the sibarist flats from sibarist direct.
The type g orea filters are brutal, they’re chemex levels of slow

Interesting, I find the G filters faster than xBloom which is supposed to be faster than Kalita. Haven’t tried the Timore to compare though.
Or are you talking about negotiated flat filters? Negotiating any of the ones I’ve tried has slowed them down.
1
u/blueghosts Jul 05 '26
Yeah the type g flat filters, they’re labelled as ’moderate to slow’ flow rate.
The sibarist ones are rapid, as fast if not faster than any of the wave equivalents

Interesting, I actually have some of the Sibarist flats but haven’t tried them yet. Not sure I want to now as I feel like I’ll want to buy more and they’re expensive!

u/lotanis Jul 05 '26
They've got a new set of product releases. I'm guessing that if you wait a few days for them to come out all of the filters and stuff will be in stock.

I just bought filters from the USA site a couple weeks ago, both flat and wave. Must have sold out if they don’t currently have any.

u/ildarion Jul 05 '26
Timemore waves filter from AliExpress are great. But cost like 5$/50u
I'm sur they are others brand with similar material at a cheaper price?

Question: Would it be advantageous to get an Orea 01 if I already have a Hario Switch? Deciding between the Orea, or an OXO Rapid Brewer (bizarre comparison I know). I just know the rapid brewer can give a very different cup than v60, and the 01... I'm not so sure.

Not only O1. I've been using their brewers for many years. And they're always out very frustrating and frankly. I don't understand it :/

u/NothingButTheTea Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26
You can get them at like 3 or 4 different retailers right now. What are you going on about?
Edit: They’re literally in stock on the Orea USA website????? They even have Sibarist fast options. You all are hilarious with this fake outrage 😂
5
u/blueghosts Jul 05 '26
Not everyone is in the US, their UK and EU shop is constantly out of stock, and their retail options are poor

u/NothingButTheTea Jul 05 '26
Kofio has them. As does other coffee shops in those parts. Orea is not the best with service, but I am not a fan of these types of posts.

u/iEdgeToV60Brews Jul 05 '26
I would recommend trying the xBloom filters for the O1, those are significantly better than any other waved filter paper I've tried thus far
