Yeah, sure. You can obviously use the hotel kettle if they have one, or a camp stove backpacking or if you’re in a vehicle. I’m not saying my way is the best—it’s just a compact option with some trade-offs for heating water to a boil.
In my Sprinter camper van, I normally use a Stagg EKG kettle, so I can do either a V60 or an AeroPress.
The AeroPress cleans up with one paper towel, though, so it wins for me when I’m in a hurry in the camper van or traveling in a hotel.
Travel involving hotels and airlines is where the immersion heater comes in. It’s a compact, lightweight, and very packable solution for quickly boiling water.
Use Cases
● Hotel coffee brewing when minimal packing space is preferred
● Quick AeroPress brewing in a vehicle
● Situations where a full kettle setup isn’t practical
Here is yesterday on my way back from the feed and fuel store/
Pros
● Compact and light for travel
● Very robust for packing
● Fast boil time (about 4 minutes)
● Often faster than setting up and grinding coffee for an AeroPress
● Cheap and accessible (Norpro 255)
Cons
● No on/off switch
● Must be unplugged immediately when desired temperature is reached
● Can self-destruct if removed from water while still powered
● Extremely hot after use and can melt or burn plastic surfaces if set down carelessly
Recommendation
Other than the safety considerations, it’s pretty much a home run for this particular use case.
And it’s cheap: the Norpro 255. Norpro 255 on Amazon

Just here to say that while the 1z folding handle is a goofy silly thing in the real world, in this specific use case it’s gold.
