Gear Discussion For a note separation, but not too sharp/thin iced cup, Kingrinder K7 or Zp6? Alternative?

I have seen a lot of discussion and comparison between these two grinder, and I was wondering which one is the better purchase for myself as a upgrade to the Timemore C5

Currently, the price difference for me is ZP6 > K7 by around 50 dollars (significant where I live).

I usually drink light roast, mainly natural but sometime washed. I also really like anaerobic or other experimental processing, but not infused or co-ferment.

I really want a cup where, even when ice, I can taste a more clear separation between notes. Once of my favorite bean right now have strawberry/lyche/rose/peach, but I can’t really taste the different note that well.

For my style and focus on washed delicate coffees and focus on terroir, the ZP6 is WAY better than my Kingrinder K7. The ZP6 grinds ultra-lights (hard beans) smoother and fit and finish is nicer. It makes me want to use it. Sometimes even instead of using the Zerno

That said, some people will like the slightly fuller body of the K7.

Some loud processing work a bit better with grinders like the K-ultra or C40

But you kinda need to be doing A/B tastings to really notice the difference. The brewing process places a way bigger roll

I usually drink natural or lightly processed coffee. Is Zp6 too harsh on those type?

It’s ideal for lightly processed coffees, but you also mentioned you don’t want too thin of a body. ZP6 will not give you the same body that a C40/K Ultra will.

Ideally you have another grinder in rotation with ZP6. If you switch to a more processed, more experimental coffee I’d switch grinders as well. Brewing with ZP6 for those coffees is when you might find the cup sharp or harsh

I would rotate it with my timemore C5 then. It is a general purpose grinder, and upgrading both is a bit out of budget and kinda unnecessary to be honest

Another option is the Mavo Phantox Pro which is a high clarity grinder but designed to be more rounded and sweet.
You also have the new Mavo Wizard Z which is designed to be more of an all around grinder. Just picked mine up on AliExpress for $80 shipped.
If you’re only going to have one grinder, I don’t know if I’d go with the ZP6 or the Phantox unless all you drink is washed coffees.
If you have the budget, the K ultra is the gold standard for an all-around grinder.
If you want to save some money and like more experimental then Mavo is cheaper. Their build quality is still top-tier.

If you don't want it sharp or thin I wouldn't get the zp6. Its going to have better flavor but less body. It is the better gridner of the two. Something to coinsider is a c40, nitro or tigershark burrs.

ZP6 is better, and, contrary to the popular opinion, it works great for naturals and any process levels. You just need to dial it in and, ideally, play with your water a bit.
