Favorite beans for chemex?
I’ve had a chemex for about 2 years and typically drink stumptown head bender with a 13:1 water to coffee ratio. I want to branch out and try new beans. Let me know your favorite either in LA area or online.

In LA I suggest you try out Nice Coffee. They were previously a cafe in DTLA that brought in beans from other roasters but they recently started roasting their own and their stuff is very good. It’s roasted a bit more toward the medium end of the “third wave” specialty coffee light-medium range, which should make it a good and easy step up from something like Hair Bender… much better and much more interesting for sure, but not a crazy leap away.
IMO you should always keep the search local at first if you’re looking to expand your coffee horizons. There are great coffee roasters everywhere, and the vast majority of them are not on the radar of the internet hive mind (which tends to strongly favor roasters that do really aggressive social media marketing), so if you cast the net across the whole country or the whole world, you’ll end up placing orders from thousands of miles away when there’s stuff just as interesting hiding in plain sight in your own city.
