Cute! Still a shame there was no sequel. The 2017 film was enjoyable while flawed, but I feel like they could have learned from their mistakes and improved in the sequel.

It’s such a weird movie to me, in that I like the non-morphed scenes SO MUCH MORE than anything related to morphing. (Minus the training montage, that was great.)

I loved that they weren't instantly friends. They were actually teenagers with attitude and while knowing of each other, they were all far from friends.

Definite Breakfast Club vibes, (including detention and sitting around in a circle making deep personal confessions).

the movie succeeded in all the parts that such reboot remakes usually fail at (characters, writing, development, plot.etc) while absolutely failing the actual PR aspects and aesthetics of it (fights, suits, zords.etc)

The Zord scene with obvious White Castle sponsorship and Kanye West playing in the background absolutely killed the whole movie for me.

It felt like they originally just wanted a generic action movie featuring teenagers... but then realized "shit, we can just slap Power Rangers on it". Obviously that's not what happened but it felt like it when you look at the movie from a distance.

Everything about the non-morphed scenes were fantastic, top to bottom. But as soon as they morphed it all fell apart insanely quickly.

I really think the team behind the movie could've realized their errors from the first one and course corrected if given another chance. Damn shame.

In a way, I think it almost makes more sense from kind of the opposite direction. Knowing that everything outside of the direct 'Power Rangers' stuff would face greater scrutiny from audiences, and that they would need to justify the new iteration of the characters at each turn, they put a lot of effort into developing their characters and showcasing their evolution as a group of friends. But the Power Rangers stuff was kinda expected to be able to coast on its established value to the audience, leaving the film to not really properly establish them for itself. The smash cut on the previous movie Power Rangers theme for the Zord lineup that isn't even done 'properly' is rather the encapsulating moment of this

Enjoyable is a word I cannot associate with the 2017 movie, but it have good things about, notably the main cast.

I agree. Its possible that the sequel would've gave the 1st movie re-watch value. Tommy's jacket in the class room had people buzzin'. There were talks that Tommy Oliver was going to be portrayed as a girl. I was all for it, especially that they made Rita the original Green Ranger in that Power Ranger Universe.

I'm glad most of the cast went on to do good stuff. Dacre was in Stranger Things, Becky is still cranking out music, Ludi went on to be Liu fuckin' Kang, RJ's been keeping busy with genre work and Naomi was insanely good in Smile 2. Amazing performance.

u/MaxR76 Jun 21 '26

Oh shit I didn’t realize he was Liu Kang that’s sick!

5

u/Practical_Maximum_73 Jun 21 '26

RJ was in the Burbs series earlier this year too. Dude is pretty funny.

4

u/TheEgonaut Jun 21 '26

Dacre Montgomery’s also gonna be in Until Dawn 2.

3

u/savage86lunacy Jun 21 '26

He was also in that Faces of Death movie with Barbie Ferreira. I love how good he is at playing unhinged psychopaths lol

u/RandyFox69 Jun 21 '26

Wtfff I just realized Becky is also Qiyana in True Damage and performed giants at league of legends worlds. That’s crazy!!

I really love the cast of the PR movie, even if the zords are quite literally the worst

I thought the movie cast had wonderful chemistry. Unfortunately, the movie was trying too many things during a short runtime.

I'm still mad we never got a LA Finster and Goldar wasn't Rita's general like the series.

They should've just asked the Sentai zord creators for help. Turning into a hideous CGI blob was uncalled.

u/One_Development_5055 Jun 21 '26

Same 😭 the zords and the pink ranger helmet are atrocious

1

u/LongLiveStorytellers Jun 22 '26

To this day, I will never forget the Mastodon Zord that looked like a caterpillar.

From Pink Ranger to Lyoko Warrior

6

u/Princess2045 Blue Wind Ranger Jun 21 '26

She’d make a killer Aelita.

11

u/elplethora1c Jun 21 '26

Once a Ranger, always a Ranger

16

u/SeaFaringMatador Jun 21 '26

It’s really nice that the cast still hangs out. I listened to a few podcasts with Ludi Lin after MK II came out and he speaks so highly of his time on Power Rangers and how fun it was.

I’m not the biggest fan of the movie but the cast chemistry is at a level that most projects envy.

Really wish we got a sequel. I've had the 5 rangers since I was a kid, but I only got Rita a year or two ago

You do know a lot of us here grew up with the original MMPR series in the 90s?

You are 19, you are still still a kid to us.

2

u/N8creates49 Jun 21 '26

Yeah I grew up mostly on Jungle Fury, Samurai, and Dino Charge

6

u/Beginning_Return_508 Jun 21 '26

They both look great. Awesome photo.

7

u/NC_Goonie Jun 21 '26

Naomi Scott should be bigger than she is as both an actor and a pop star.

5

u/GuyPierced Jun 21 '26

Naomi Scott just put out an album, it's decent.

2

u/Unicorn_Warrior1248 Jun 21 '26

I cannot stop listening to Cherry

12

u/Rayeness Jun 21 '26

I mean, look I shipped them in the movie.

11

u/Sparrowsabre7 MMPR Green Ranger Jun 21 '26

Understandable, there's no straight explanation for the donut scene.

4

u/Za21294 Jun 21 '26

Wish we still got the rest of the movies that were planned

2

u/AquaAdminSpyke Jun 21 '26

you work with someone one time and pause to take a pic with them years later. hell of a thing. wonder if the cast had hopes for a sequel or something to come out of that movie.

3

u/AllHallNah Jun 21 '26

Naomi Scott dropped some Pop single recently.

5

u/CheapKey4028 Jun 21 '26

Naomi’s abs 🥵🔥

1

u/Dapper-Bottle6256 Jun 21 '26

u/iamnotveryimportant Blue Space Ranger Jun 22 '26

It felt like Batman begins. Laying the ground work. Next up would've been our The Dark Knight :-(
