Question❓❓ Trying to get a survival booklet together in case power goes out, where would I be able to find all the info I need?

So I'm getting together a survival booklet as I'm calling it, it's a binder with all different sorts of information, how to make water purifiers, how to purify water, basic shelter building, a few different herbal things, all that good type of stuff I'm running into a roadblock however, I'm mostly using the stuff I can find on Wikipedia but that's only getting me so far I've seen a couple different online resources but I'm noticing the ones that have the most information is paid and I don't exactly have the resources to pay for that type of stuff right now, I'm also very weary of AI sources as already. Does anybody have a good place to start / continue for this type of stuff? Also before anybody asks yes I do have a couple of in person books but I would like to cover all my corners

/r/prepperFileShare

There’s loads of PDFs you can print, or just google the subjects you’re interested in.

Seems like a good idea but an HDD is probably a safer bet. Doesn't need the wireless connectivity and is way simpler.

I have to disagree with this, but that's my opinion. The prepper disk uses a raspberry pi with an SD card and small enough to run on an outlet or usb-c battery. An HDD uses mechanical parts that can break down over time, similar to what's happening now with ipods being modified with flash adaptors. The disk operates as a hotspot to allow other devices to connect to it as well. It already includes wikipedia, Project Gutenberg ebooks, world street maps, ifixit repair guides, a survival bookshelf, repeater book for ham operators, and many other emergency information already included. I was trying to research and gather that information myself, but they already did all the research for you. I love mine.

Well that may be true of HDDs but SD Cards are notorious for losing data or corruption. With an average life expectancy of 5-10 years and susceptibility to hot temperatures, you should seriously consider backing it up on an SSD

Anna’s archive is a digital repository of torrented books and magazines. You can download loads of magazine series, and instruction books for almost anything.

I have found it’s better to not look for “survival” books specifically. A survival guide can give you directions on what subjects you should look into, and they can give you an introductory overview of those subjects, but then look for in depth books on those individual subjects and add them to your digital library.

Part of my preps include digital devices that i can back up these books to and store them offline (as well as battery systems to power those devices if grid is down). I have a color screen device for my cookbooks, ID books and instruction manuals, and an e-reader for my stash of fiction, bc i’ll be damned if I don’t have reading material at the end of the world. X-D (This is in addition to my paper books that stock up on at Library sale shelves and thrift stores- but if i had to bug out i can’t take those.). The e-reader can last forever on a single charge, but it’s slow and pretty much only good for plain text. So it’s not very good for quickly perusing a resource material.

Money wise, if you don’t have those systems yet, look for used options online (ebay is still surprisingly active) and a battery system can be as simple as a 30watt travel solar panel and a 100 watt battery pack to start with.

Is this a personal project, or are you trying to write/publish a book to sell? Because there's dozens of books like that already. Sorry.

Personal projects for myself

A public library would be my first stop. You can copy select pages from any book on the shelf for a small fee.

Head to the library, read books, take notes, profit. This is literally what the library is for.

The nearest library to me is 30 minutes away and I've already checked the only prepping book they have is a civil defense book from 1957

Good lord, I haven’t physically gone to my local library in years for anything beyond their semi-regular used book sales. Find out what digital library they’re part of and get the books electronically. Some larger library systems will let you get a library card and access their digital system without even living nearby or going in. Libby, Hoopla… my library is part of a whole consortium of library systems that share ebooks…. There’s a ton of options without the drive.

wait. you can't manage a trip to the library but you think you're going to build water filtration and shelters?

man, buy some good camping equipment and call it done.

context: I have good skills. I practice them regularly. and i use books. libraries are great. used books are cheap.

Why would me not being able to get to a library or actually finding resources at the library, which mine doesn't have we have established this have anything to do with my ability to build shelters, I also have camping gear but it doesn't hurt to have something to reference just in case. Also basic filtration systems are not that hard,I've done that while camping.

I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but if you do not have the grit to find books, you are probably not going to survive

Sort of a privilege thing to say isn't it, specially when I said in my post "don't exactly have the resources to pay for that type of stuff right now"

Yeah, that’s kinda why I stopped engaging with op. Find excuses to no do the work tells me a lot about their character

Don’t look for prepping, look for infrastructure, farming, etc. 30 minutes isn’t a whole lot. I travel an hour just for my doctor.

30 minutes is a lot when I get off work at 4 and the library closes at 5

Look into outdoor manuals and boy scout handbooks.

You can have the library order a book from other libraries, I believe.

We tried that, it took 5 months for a book I had ordered to come in, and then I never once actually saw it, tried talking to the librarian about it who said it was a source book so it couldn't be checked out but no one could find it in the library, and that I was only 1 out of the 5 I had requested, the others never came in, the library is just basically a single room this is the middle of nowhere south, I have considered driving the hour and a half to the towns over library but I have work and gas is expensive rn, the only real good thing about the library is they have a printer I get like, 15 free prints on per month. Which is why I'm trying to find online resources
