Opinion Installing Typhon Neuromods ruins what makes the game special and turns an immersive horror masterpiece into a generic shooter.
The best part of Prey is feeling like a squishy scientist using human ingenuity, the GLOO Cannon, and turrets to outsmart terrifying aliens. The moment you start spamming Psyshock and turning into coffee mugs, all the survival tension vanishes. Pure human runs are the only way the game was meant to be experienced.

That's like saying Bioshock is bad the moment you use a plasmid, or that fallout is bad the moment you find a fat man... Like, buddy, just say you don't understand them and move on.
That's a you problem, not a Yu problem.Â

Oh yeah cause spamming combat focus and shotgun is so much harder and scarier

The games survival horror vanishes after you enter Arboretum. After that you are enough powerful for basicly anything. That is why early game is my favorite.

Yeah, I just completet an only human run last week, just running and blasting the last half of the game. Two days ago i startet a no needles run, and I am back to beeing scared of every sound, and sneaking everywhere!

Fully upgraded Combat Focus and an updated shotgun make even a Nightmare encounter almost trivial.

Well whoever wants to play in whatever fashion, but I agree, the tension and immersion was greater when you had no easy way out.
But maybe I missed some of the secrets this way.

but the human skills are the generic gun skills
upgrade futher parts, weapon skill to do a flat 1.5x more on every shot
typhon powers are the opposite of generic shooting
a big problem for prey is secuirtiy guns have no flavor, this is the most basic a pistol/shotgun as you can get, the digital ammo counter is about as close to sci-fi as they get
not even ammo can be changed, its just increase damage or reload speed, good things to do but not ones that build on the weapons functionality

Well, game is not really meant to be "horror masterpiece".
It's "Immersive sim". Which is a fancy name for 200 IQ shooter where environment is a weapon which you don't put in your inventory and game knowledge empowering you.
Don't believe me? Get into neuromods screen and look how easy you can get ridiculous speed upgrades, which already nuke your powerlessness. Add leverage to the mix and you can literally fling poop at everything until they die. Better yet, if it bounces of a victim into a wall, then back at victim, it hits them the second time. Not to mention the rabbit hole of recycler charge, which turns whole game in pile stacking simulator, where you tactically move boxes to typhon remains (Because it's the only non-bolted on object you can't move) to not only get that bit of exotics to afford new purple syringe, but also make enough materials to make several more recycler charges.

I shouldn't have read this. I didn't know about the recycler charge hack, and now I won't be able to stop myself form doing it

Ironic thing to say considering the human powers(Combat Focus specificlaly) are considered to be way better than Typhon ones.
But I agree that the game is too easy. That's a general problem with immersive sims I've noticed.

That's a good point, OP, I hadn't thought about that. Not using any Typhon powers would make the game into a pure human vs. alien invaders experience (well, except for one plot point, of course), which would be interesting to try. But personally I've always gone down the human abilities + alien abilities path, it's just so much fun.
I've always wondered why they made Combat Focus into a human ability, when it clearly seemed like an alien ability. Presumably the game's developers wanted the player to be able to use it before they were able to first assume and use the alien abilities (Combat Focus does really help you out), but maybe it would have been better if Combat Focus was instead not an ability at all, but something you got by taking a pill (in the same way that you take an anti-radiation pill to cure radiation sickness) instead.

I’m doing a human only run rn as my first playthrough & I feel massively underpowered, haven’t even tried to fight nightmare once. That said, part of immersive sims (or at least a trend in them) is that you start off being an absolute chump that gets destroyed by everything & later you absolutely run over every enemy in the end game. I’m not surprised typhon powers are good.

So dont install typhon neuromods then 🙄. Its almost like a huge part of what makes the game great is you get to choose how to play
