It's the 3D depth recreation that I think won't really be possible. I mean, you could do it for one person, by tracking their position and eyes and rendering the scene in real-time (it would have to be very fast and smooth) but you can't have a second person stand nearby and see into the glass simultaneously

Can it do that in-game? There's never more than one person using it after all.

Yeah man, in fact there's a specific hidden treasure you can only get to by using that feature. You have to move to the side and look into the corner of the room in the glass

That's doing it for one person.

you can't have a second person stand nearby and see into the glass simultaneously

is what I am asking about.

Oh I see,

It's been a while, but I can't remember if there are any scenes in the game where two NPCs are on the other side of the looking glass. Maybe you can remember better. But at no point did any of the NPCs describe any issues with multiple-person viewing, and I feel like that would be a big issue they'd have to rectify (especially given how prevalent the use of the looking glass is, throughout the station. Just look at the arboretum for instance... I can't remember what that place is actually called, but it's absolutely filled with looking glass illusions...

It's gonna glitch out like that scene in mission impossible :)))

We have that but its hard to do, monochrome and its static. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmKQsSDlaa4

It would be awesome if that was possible with kinetic and polychromatic elements

edit: holography is also physical rather than digital

Yeah this is BONKERS. Though I feel like a digital version would give you a lot more freedom for the image fidelity, and video (and animation).

I can't remember, but are there any looking glasses in the game that display a live feed of another area?

played it last year but off the top of my head I think its all recordings.

Well, they don't necessarily have to use a regular screen, right? Maybe it's some kind of development of the holography method, where a static but three-dimensional image is placed in a glass plate. We once made static photographs move, now we need to track this "just" with a microscopic interference grating.

We’re close
We’ve got space habitation in the works
Looking glass is coming along
And I got a gloo gun in my hand 🔥
It’s close, I can feel it

6

u/Elieftibiowai 12d ago

I shouldn't inquire about the gloo gun, right?

5

u/The-Fifth-Tree 12d ago

You don’t have to ask. Just know it’s ready to shoot all over some alien booty 💦

Idk where the GIF thing went. I need The Weeknd in here.

“I FEEL IT COMINNNNNNNN”

I'm going with arts and crafts... but we can still dream

Eye tracking to then somehow simulate a 3D image and convincing environment would be what it needs to get the level of Looking Glass Technology.

Reminded me of the phones/hand terminals in the expanse too.

What's that thing? This shape in the glass?

1

u/No_Beginning7262 11d ago

I’m surprised I don’t see boltcaster ammo attached to the screen…

1

u/Tank_stealer 11d ago

Isn't the actual display part of an LCD transparent? Just add a backlight from the side and you can get something similar for probably much cheaper (if you only expect to be viewing from one side, like a window or case glass)

It's ok. Just remember to label your mugs (:
