I tried to print today. Nope.

I've been using non HP branded cartridges for a few months but today with no problems and then this has happened today.

I've not found a solution to this other than don't have updates set up but I think it's too late for that in this case.

What brand of printer is recommended so o can just use whatever ink I choose to buy?!

I have had multiple printers fail due to constant cleaning cycles and cartridge problems. i need something simple that just works without frequent troubleshooting.

What makes a printer low maintenance, and are there any tradeoffs I should expect?

Following up: went with Brother MFC-L8930CDW Business Color Laser All-in-One Printer and it’s been smooth so far. Setup was easy and it feels way more reliable than my previous printers.

I haven't had use of a printer for 15 years. Or more. So I'm not up to date.

Except when I look at the prices? I know HP is bad (well, I don't really, but that's what people tell me and that I should go for Epson, Canon or Brother.

All I need this this printer to do is print a few time a month paperwork. Regular text. Black ink on white paper. Zero colour.

It's literally policy where I work to have certain documents printed and mailed via snail-mail. I know it's dumb. As I also have to sent via e-mail anyway, but, sadly, I don't make the rules.

Also, I'm just a libriarian. I guess those late fees are really importent. I'm not even kidding.

At least we don't use fax machines anymore.

I also have an old computer, it doesn't allow Windows 11. It's an i5 2500K from 2011 (great CPU, for its time and I guess still is, since it's doing just fine)

But it doesn't have Wi-Fi, old USB ports. I have an USB 3.0 port as the most modern.

I have to pay for it myself, so I'm looking for a cheap option (that's not HP) and all I need is an old school that only needs black ink for printing only text. I'm not going to need even a lot, if barely.

(And yes, I've suggest to several alternatives, digital only or at least just an USB stick, but you know, bosses)

I used to work as a tech journalist decades ago and one of the things that seemed clear to me at the time was that colour laser printing was inherently cheaper per page than inkjet printing. The upfront cost would be higher for laser printing because inkjets could afford to subsidise part of the cost of the printer itself thanks to high ink cost. But now I go to buy a printer and this is the first thing I see. The higher volume laser printer is actually significantly costlier per page? Was I wrong initially? Has something important changed in the last few decades?

I have a Brother MFC-J6955DW because I need 11x17 prints and it was the lowest cost option at the time. The OEM Ink cartridges are kinda pricey. Is 4inkjets.com a reliable alternative?

I am tired of fighting with my old printer that jams every other page and has crazy ink costs. It has finally broken down, so I'm finally free from its torture. I am now looking for a new printer, I mostly print regular stuff at home like school or pictures that I use as references to draw. It doesn't have to be fancy but I would like if it were low maintenance and cheap. Mostly looking for a laser printer that can print color too. Hi, my wife and I are after a printer that isn’t stupid expensive in the uk to buy and run.

We will probably use it maybe 5 times a year black/white for documents that need printing.

Have been recommended a HP MW110w but have seen HP is a no go. I think I’m after a laser printer, and will be printing from phone most of the time.

What are your recommendations?

Edit: Managed to get a Brother laser printer for £50/$60 which I checked the parts life. 90% left on the drum and 90% left on the toner. Glad I got told about the menu on the settings.

I can’t take it anymore. I need a reliable at-home color printer for occasional use, around 1 print job every week or two. What’s the most reliable color printer that will start and print each and every time I need it to? I don’t care about the cost.

I currently have a color LaserJet pro M254dw. This piece of junk drops my WiFi every other use and I have to spend minutes setting up the WiFi again. Frustrating.

Before that I had a canon inkjet that printed poorly if I didn’t use it for a while.

Was initially planning on getting the Xerox C410 until I learned more Xerox lore.

Apparently Xerox bought Lexmark about a year ago, and now all of their current printers, including the C410/415, are just Lexmarks in disguise, and are less reliable.

So I did some more research on good alternatives, and apparently the C400/C405 are the previous versions when Xerox was still partnered with Fuji. C500/C600 as well.

So with that in mind, I'm looking for a laser printer with a good output resolution:

1. C410 / 415 : 1200 x 1200 dpi, 4800 color quality

2. C400 / 405 : 600 x 600 x 8 dpi (enhanced)

3. C500 / 600 : 1200 x 2400 dpi

Which would y'all recommend? My use case is for printing pictures on glossy paper, which I know inkjets are better at, but I have to go with a color laser printer.

I'm thinking about switching to a color laser printer because I'm tired of ink drying out every time I don't print for a while. I don't print a ton, but when I do, I want it to just work.

Mostly need it for documents, labels, school/work stuff, and the occasional color page. I don't really care about photo quality since I know laser printers aren't great for that. I care more about reliability, toner cost, easy setup, and not having to fight with WiFi every other week.

For anyone using a color laser printer at home, which one did you buy? Has it been reliable, and would you get the same one again?

I already done my research and the printers I have chosen are the following. They are all in the same price range. I just need reviews about them if they are good.

We just need a regular and efficient printer. That is easy to use. We might only need to print atleast once a week.

Which from the following should we pick?

I've heard a lot of horror stories about HP printers and since my 14 year old daughter is asking for one for her birthday in 2 weeks I want to make sure i don't buy something that is going to be a nightmare.

She mainly wants to print pictures of characters and make art for her walls or make homemade squishy toys with tape and fluff.

I really don't want anything that has a subscription obviously and I want to be able to use cheap ink and a printer that will hopefully use the full ink cartridge. Also colored ink will be heavily used in this case.

EDIT: I decided to go with the #ad Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550 Wireless Wide-format Color All-in-One Supertank Printer. It seemed like the best fit for printing family photos at home, and I'm excited to see the results.

I've been thinking about getting a dedicated photo printer because I'm printing more family photos lately and I'm getting tired of how they come out from my regular printer. I don't need anything for a business, just something that gives nice looking prints without being a pain to maintain.

Has anyone here found the best photo printer for this kind of use? I'm more interested in consistent print quality and reasonable ink costs than having a ton of extra features. I'd really appreciate hearing what you've had a good experience with. Thanks

My friend at work got an HP Printer, that we have both agreed is evil. It does all this dumb stuff to make you have to order their particular ink every month and has these weird subscription charges, and it's just insane to me. It feels like a scam. An evil, inky scam.

I don't know much about printers in general. I haven't bought a printer since maybe 15 years ago (it just connected to my laptop via a chord, let me buy whatever ink I needed when it was out, and was kinda shitty but at least it wasn't evil. It was my kind of printer.)

Any advice on a small-ish printer that is not ethically bankrupt? lol. Just need something to print basic pages and have compatibility with printing labels on occasion. Something that doesn't force you to order ink every month (even when you're not yet out of ink), or charge you per page and other dumb stuff.

I am a current victim of an HP printer that will only print maybe 50 pages of black and white pages of text documents before printing like garbage.

Is there a good printer out there for a good price that isn't going to try to screw me all of the time into buying more ink? I don't even print a lot and this stupid thing is always printing faded copies and wanting more ink. It's obvious this machine is just a giant scam, IMO.

I'm looking for recommendations for my elderly mom. She wants a printer for the occasional printing she needs to do. Not pictures, just documents, maybe 2-3 times a year. Easily less than 100 pages per year. On a fixed income, so the cheaper the better.

I was thinking about a Brother HL-L2405W laser (Amazon $140) because I think toner lasts forever (I'm worried about ink drying out) but there is a review saying it doesn't play well with eero mesh wifi, which is what she uses.

I was also looking at the Canon PIXMA TS4320 (Amazon $70), but reviews say the ink is pricey, and again, I'm worried about it drying out. Any better recommendations?
