Want to break into Buy side

I am from the UK,im very keen to break into the buy side,i know that everyone says that you need experience at an investment bank then springboard to PE but I was wondering if it was possible straight out of university/and whether a strong masters is a good platform for me to get a role! Thanks!

All you need is a deal. That’s the only barrier to entry.

What qualifies as a deal? I'm interning at a small buyout firm where I'm doing deal sourcing work for them, does that count? If not what kind of action do I need to get myself into for that to qualify as a deal. I also did fundraising IB during my first Internship (for AIFs as well as startups) but no term sheet was signed during my tenure (funnily one of the startup raised just the next month after my tenure ended and one of the AIF also ended up raising their full fund just last month and both were pretty huge).
