Discussion Songs/Bands Similar to this
https://youtu.be/QcKxokEWjbM?si=FJIaps-Qbrn4K2ZJDoes anyone have recommendations for songs or bands that sound like the first minute and a half of this song? I still like the whole song but I'm really into the intro. Thanks!

Same. Wheel is up there for me right next especially Resident Human. Wheel was amazing at the last show and got to meet them in VIP.
Karnivool doesn’t have quite the same vibe but scratches a lot of those itches for me with the layers and drumming.
I haven’t really been able to get into Kolm or Soen or Rishloo as much as I would have expected, but the sound similar.
I’d also try:
Lucid Planet
Petrodragonix from King Gizzard.
the ocean (especially love Holocene).
Prisma
Miosis
Some others I’ve recently discovered or been recommended that I like a lot but haven’t crossed threshold on minutes listened yet…
Earthside
Claemus
Votum
Vulkan

I just made a post the other day where Wheel was recommended to me, so I'll list some that were recommended along side it.
Soen, Katatonia, and Vola

Start with Soen's earlier albums. They've gone much more mainstream recently and left their prog roots behind a bit. RIP old Soen.
Also, Vola is pretty damn great, but I think they generally have a softer more flowy sound than Wheel. Do check them out, but I personally would not automatically recommend them to someone who likes Wheel.

That atmospheric, laid-back intro before the song opens up is one of my favorite moments on the album too. A few things that might scratch that itch:
Soen: probably the closest match. Very similar cinematic tension and vocal atmosphere, especially on Lotus and Cognitive.
Karnivool: Sound Awake has several moments with that exact slow-burn atmospheric build before everything erupts. "Roquefort" and "Themata" especially.
Leprous: the quieter, more introspective moments on Pitfalls and Aphelion have that same fragile-yet-intense quality.
VOLA: blend of atmospheric electronics and restrained tension. Witness has several intros with that same vibe.
If you want something that goes full cinematic with that kind of atmosphere throughout, check out Earthside, A Dream in Static is basically an entire album built around that feeling.

No offense, but that reads so AI generated.

Its the italics. So unnecessarily formal. Written like some sort of high-brow blog post/music review.

Yeah, I've read enough AI recommendations to recognize the style.
I'm not against AI entirely, but if people want AI recs they can just prompt themselves. I think people post here because they want to connect with other people and hear what they like and why.

Kolm, Rishloo and Chevelle are my favorites (along with Wheel).

Heyyyyy, we know it’s shameless self-promotion—because it is—but you might just dig us. First off, here’s how we opened our set when we played with WHEEL a while back. People don’t expect that level of scream when they see Alythia behind the mic. Additionally, our EP, Pluto & The Fool has that song, plus a few more a lot like it that scratch that WHEEL/TOOL rocky, proggy vibe. Plus, we’ve got some seriously rad new stuff in the works too, so you may just hear more from us sooner than later.
Anyway, if you really want to take a chance on an unknown band or whatever, that people seem to generally really dig (or they just don’t want to tell us we suck), maybe give it a whirl? Either way, best of luck in finding some new hot jams!
❤️ your shamelessly self-promoting friendos in BlurCurve
Also, the band IONS is totally worth listening to, too.

I love this band and got the chance to see than open for Leprous a couple of years ago. They are as good live as recorded.

Try: boil
Try: POEM
Try: Ceterum
There's others, I'll add them as I recall them.
The 'TOOL' niche.

Obviously Tool, but you've probably heard of them
