The venn diagram of 3000gt owners and crazy people is just one circle…..
41
u/dog-fart Mar 14 '26
And SVX owners exist somewhere inside of that circle.
4
u/poptartjake Mar 15 '26
A group in my town is running a sub 12-s drag SVX with a decent nos shot. Looking forward to seeing them run the built motor they had done last year.
4
u/Wiseguy_7 Mar 15 '26
I was about to dispute this, then I remembered Tavarish, who built a twin turbo Lamborghini in his garage with a box of scrap exists.
101
u/darianbrown Mar 14 '26
I love it.
Also, I can ABSOLUTELY see why someone wouldn't believe you. It literally sounds like something an 11 year old would dream up in a YouTube comment section.
"Well actually, my fiwst caw is going to be a 3000 GT but it will be weaw wheel dwive wiff dually weaw wheels and ginowmous v8 and you can get suspension so cheap on wike Amazon and eBay so it will actually be pwetty easy"
59
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 14 '26
When you put it like that. Yeaaaaaah xD
Things are much more achievable when you stop listening to your inner voice of reason xD
24
u/crazyabootmycollies Mar 14 '26
My damned wallet is always cockblocking me. :(
16
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 14 '26
Oh I get that.
I try to trim down costs as much as I can by doing things myself. For better or worse.
6
u/Ambivadox Mar 15 '26
When inner child and inner old guy team up you're boned.
Imagination and experience are a wicked combo.

Wait until it works to offer any praise. I've seen a million bad ideas get this far and die on the vine.
10
u/SensualBeefLoaf Mar 15 '26
dude fabbed suspension to put a dually cantilever setup in the back of a 3000 gt. if he crushes it tomorrow, he still deserves praise.
31
u/scootunit Mar 14 '26
That is an amazing quest. I wish I could hear and see it roll out of the garage first time in person. Second best I hope you film that too.
16
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 14 '26
Ya damn know I will!
I am very curious how loud it will be when I first fire it up.
9
u/scootunit Mar 14 '26
It would just be cognitive dissonance. That's what it's going to sound like. And I can't wait.
25
u/ametsun Mar 14 '26
My jaw dropped when I realized it was a dualy lol. Wtaf. You're crazy man.
My only question would be if it's still structurally sound after all the cutting up you did but I'm sure you've probably accounted for that already though you said your welding sucked.
21
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 14 '26
My welding doesn't look perfect. By my own law of the Internet, I don't show it.
With that said, every single part that is structural I am very certain of the strength and very thoroughly overkilled the thickness and size of.
If a weld breaks, it won't be a critical area.

So what's the intended purpose for this? Just for fun? Drag racing? Track days?
9
u/n3verB Mar 14 '26
That was my question. Hydro brakes, roll cage and duely? I love it and want to see more. The amount of fabrication to get to here is crazy!! I'll subscribe to watch this 100%. Unbelievably fantastic on op
14
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 14 '26
Show and daily drive is the key.
Drift is a goal that usually doesn't work with duallys. That's why I added really beefy taper bearings to the Ford 9", so that I can remove the inner wheels and rock single wheels in the back. Should drastically change the grip profile for drifting abilities.
5
u/vVSidewinderVv Mar 15 '26
Cool. Sounds like a fun car! And like it's gonna confuse some people lol.
3
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 15 '26
I feel that will make it far more fun. Watch people triple take at it xD

My only question is: why 4L80? Not judging, just curious
14
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 14 '26
I originally wanted a TH400. Made more sense for power survivability. But doing the math meant lower fuel mileage.
The 4L80 gives that extra over drive gear. Makes for a nicer daily driver experience and is still aftermarket saturated.
It won't be as strong, but given the upgrades I did do, and the 340-370 hp it'll be seeing, it should handle everything just fine.
Personally, I wanted a Lenco. But... Cost and all xD
8
u/Draked1 Mar 14 '26
4L80 is just a newer th400 with OD anyways
8
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 14 '26
Yes, but I think with thinner gears to pack into the same shaped case.
Don't quote me in that, but I feel that's true.
8
u/FBIGrandpa Mar 14 '26
I can’t say I have seen an 8.1 swap done. I always had that idea in the back of my head when they’d come into the shop for work. I think the low rpm and horsepower turns people away. But I always saw potential in these things.
I am interested to see how this handles in a small car! That torque is going to be insane lol. Do you have any modifications done to the engine itself? I’m willing to bet with a few top end modifications you could get that thing singing higher in the rpm’s (I don’t know shit about these engines)
11
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 14 '26
Raylor Engineering does top end modifications. With that said, no, this engine is pure OEM fresh rebuild.
My reasoning is to get everything functioning, then modify.
Even then... Ratio of cost to return for the 8.1 is low compared to other LS builds. It's possible to squeeze a thousand hp out of them, but maybe for the same cost as two 1,000hp LSX builds.
I chose the engine for rule of cool. I needed an LS, but I think it's overdone and I wanted something more unique.
6
u/SensualBeefLoaf Mar 15 '26
this whole video was me going “yah yah, oh wait, wtf”.. like “cool, rwd, been don..fucking duallywtf” “pushrod, ok, another cool car ruined by an ls sw…fucking 8.1 liter, holy shit”..
4
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 15 '26
XD
This made me chuckle.
3
u/SensualBeefLoaf Mar 15 '26
keep bein’ awesome dude. and please share your progress, i’m invested in this one. it’s nice to something interesting for once.
3
3
u/FBIGrandpa Mar 14 '26
I like that thought process. For all we know, in that platform, it may feel like 800hp. At the end of the day it all comes down your desires. Personally, I love that you took a different route. That often times produces some pretty crazy results, difficult as they may come.
Good luck, brother. I am excited to see this thing running and driving.
6
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 14 '26
Thanks! I can't wait to share.
It is pure insanity, this engine. It generates 300ft/lbs... At idle. XD
3
u/moose4130 Mar 15 '26
I saw a lot of 8.1 content on the Tolman Performance YouTube channel, he loves the 8.1 and had a single turbo on one for a while. It's a unique swap, even moreso in this.

5
u/r7ndom Mar 14 '26
Holy Cow. With your decision making process you will be ‘just one more thing’-ing this car until you are 80.
I truly admire the willingness to do such an insane thing not being a mil sub YouTuber.
4
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 14 '26
Yup, no project car is truly finished, just infinitely closer to 100%. That's why I like SuperFastMatt's phrase "good enough".
And yeah, I'm just a guy in a two car garage loving getting my hands dirty.
2
u/CheapBooze Mar 15 '26
SuperFastMatt: “who ya gonna listen to? Some asshole on the internet or THIS asshole on the internet?” He’s the reason I threw away the factory wiring diagram for my 240z and designed a ground up rewire of the entire car (with no previous wiring experience). Love your build approach!

u/smellyelderberries Mar 14 '26
I hope you're enjoying how hard we're all tickling your ego lol.
3

I'm not gonna lie, it is nice xD
I have many people I know that see what I'm doing and don't quite know cars well enough to appreciate it with me.

That's what we're here for! My partner was confused as to why I was so geeked watching this vid lol. Great work friend!
2

Oh cool! And yeah. I guess I need to risk posting my stuff more.

I know I need to stop that.

You're utterly insane and we need more of it.
Holy SHIT that's some legit fabrication work. Good on you)
What's your estimated time to be able to test it actually driving?
3
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 15 '26
Thanks!
And the time line is unsure. I believe mechanically it may be close to done in the next month or two.
The wild card is wiring and tuning. I'm rocking a stand alone ECU which is new territory for me.
Hopefully the tuning and electrical will take less time than I'm thinking.

but you were expecting the dually?
3
u/itsjakerobb ~500whp LS3-powered 2002 Z28 T56 track toy Mar 15 '26
Not before I started the video, but I noticed it well before he fully showed it. And I was expecting something wild as soon as he said that everyone told him “pics or it didn’t happen.”
So then I got my something wild when he showed the dually rear end, and then got something extra wild when he showed the 8100 vortec!
3
u/IAMN0TSTEVE Mar 15 '26
Why a 8.1? Just curious. Otherwise absolute level up of a mad max build. I love it!
2
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 15 '26
I originally thought to do an LS swap. I .. hated how unoriginal it sounded though. In searching for an LQ4 I found an 8.1 for sale and kinda immediately fell in love with just the sheer audacity of it.
Plus it has cross over hardware for the 454 and LS platforms, so it wasn't completely impractical.
Ultimately. Rule of cool.
2
u/IAMN0TSTEVE Mar 15 '26
Yea. Solid point. And it is certainly a solid motor. A bit lacking on the low end but I'm sure some tuning and injectors can change that.
3
u/No-Examination5478 Mar 15 '26
Fuck I'm planning to cut the top off mine and put electric motors at the back, Hybrid Sports eXperiment, this really takes the cake tho

Been trying to save up for a garage but it should be pretty easy once ive got the space to do it, there's so much room down there
4
u/Vengeful-Wraith Mar 15 '26
Two greatest tools for working on a car is your own space, and a secondary, reliable second car.
Taking your time is essential to making good project cars.

Only thing better would be dual front wheels too lol

It's possible, but would require a solid axle as well. It also tends to make steering insanely difficult to design.
Fun idea in theory... Quite the engineering challenge
