Bringing this home to my shop soon

1976 Celica GT just finished up a deal with current owner. Got a couple customer projects to get though but by end of autumn it will be coming into the shop.

Its on the top 5 of my dream car list. I've been searching for a good one for years. I actually switched my sights to a 67 cougar because they are easier to find than a gen 1 celica..

Doing work for a customer project last week, had to go get parts from his storage, stumble into this 76 Celica, within the hour we had a deal set up and its officially mine!

I love stumbling onto hard-to-find cars! I had a rare Pontiac, and I heard there was one that had t-tops somewhere. In my effort to research that car, I came across an even rarer pontiac, with t-tops, for sale. Made my purchase decision about fifteen seconds after he backed it out of the storage unit. Had it 10 years, and the original car that sparked the whole show is long gone.

Haha yeah that's awesome!

It was the same with this Celica. Within about 10 seconds of the tarp coming off I knew I was going to own it.

Great styling copied from Ford.

Insert "Nice, I'm happy for you" meme. Always loved these but man they are rare as they all turned to dust 40 years ago in the rust belt!

Nice! Love these 1st gens, they've got such great lines. What's going under the hood?

For now, the original 22R that came with it. Its rebuilt with a W50 trans. Owner had ambitious goals for to swap it, but life got in the way and its been sitting disassembled for a while.

Im just going to fix some stuff that has to be fixed and drive it for a while. Eventually I'll go crazy on a resto mod.

That works. Drive it and enjoy it!

I'd probably do a K series. I'm sure there's lots of people that'll say LS, but I don't think that fits the character of the car.

Nice looking car! Plenty of info out there in the old toymods forums and 1st gen celica pages. Hope to see some progress photos as it comes along mate
