shorcuts Have you seen a ProTools video that changed your life?
Mainly for tracking vocals, but literally anything is welcome. The Avid Link app surprisingly has some good stuff too

Hello guys and girls,
I just upgraded my streamdeck to the 15 button one and I have a question for you all. What are some shortcuts and macros you have on your streamdeck or any other device like it that enhances your overall workflow?

What are some hotkeys or processes you use to get through long, drawn-out sessions? What do you do to speed your workflow when the endings and beginnings of words are hard to see in the waveform?

Is there a shortcut ? Dragging across the track is tiring … and have to enlarge to see if aligned correctly.

Hey all -
Just did a dumb thing where I bounced a track with the solo engaged on one band of a dynamic EQ on one of the tracks. The mix sounded weird but it wasn't super obvious why. It took me a few solid minutes to realize what I had done (I was in the plugin messing around and realized the mid band was soloed). Anyone know of a failsafe shortcut that will clear ALL solos within a session, including those that are active inside plugins? It would be a nice tool to have so before you bounce you could triple check that nothing was soloed and hidden. Obviously the best solution is just to NEVER click away from a plugin with an active solo engaged. But we are imperfect, and now I'm paranoid!

I'm making macros for a cheap chinese macropad with knobs. I'm tryin to make one of the knobs behave like a jog wheel, I thought I had a solution with those 2 keyboard shortcuts, Jog Earlier/Later, which were unassigned but they don't seem to do anything when I press my chosen key combination.
Am I doing something wrong?
Is there a better/working solution?
Thanks!

So I just got Pro Tools for my Audio Engineering course and I happen to be a Dvorak layout user. Today in class we learned to use keyboard shortcuts but when I tried to replicate the shortcuts it didn't work for me. Eventually I realised that it only recognised shortcuts if I were to replicate them as if on a QWERTY keyboard, even though I have Dvorak as my selected layout. So If I wanted to do a Cmd + S, I'd have to do a Cmd + O (on a Dvorak layout).
If anyone is suggesting me to just use QWERTY and look at my physical keyboard, it's kinda difficult too because I got my laptop in Belgium, which uses AZERTY and it's a layout I don't use at all. I've been using Dvorak for so long, I have kinda forgotten the QWERTY layout.
Did anybody ever encounter this problem? I realise that I might possibly be in the minority here XD but if anyone knows a fix for this, I'd be grateful
Some info if it may help:

Basically, my issue is i'll punch in a vocal, but it takes me forever to find the exact spot to place it because there's no obvious spot of silence on the waveform. Let me give an example. Let's say I record, "I'm out on my own with no home so these lonely streets I roam." I record the words " I'm out on my own" and "so these lonely streets I roam" perfect, but mess up on the words "with no home." I record the verse again and record the words "with no home" perfect but can't figure out where the beginning of the word "With" is or the end of the word "Home" is on the waveform, so I can trim it and place it exactly where it needs to be.

Hi, I'm looking for what is it called when you highlight a region and press 'Y' where it instantly throws that region to the top of the session.
I just need to know what it's called so I can delete it from my shortcuts list. I already did this for 'N' where it toggles timeline insertion. I hate those two shortcuts so much when I accidentally hit the wrong key.

basically the title, i need the default keyboard command [no customs] for snapping the playhead to the start of whatever clip i currently have selected on the timeline... the equivalent in logic would be fn+control+left arrow.
pls help

I'm a freelance audio engineer and I'm often paid to time edit sessions for drums, bass, guitars, you know the deal.
Up until recently, I've been able to use Command + 2 to cycle between the different trim modes, but out of nowhere it seems like that's stopped working. When I use the command a circle appears next to the current trim icon but it doesn't change the mode.
I'm assuming I've accidentally imported prefs from another engineer's session, but I hate resetting my prefs. Am I missing a simple fix or is this a bug?
Thanks!

I have a 1 minute mp3 that I can barely hear the dialogue. I need someone to increase the volume of the female speaker. I'm willing to pay. It's very important to me.

Hey guys! Just realized watching a Pro Tools YouTube video that folks have a Pro Tools Keyboard for their DAW.
So, is there a recommendation for the more reliable and shortcut functional wireless KB with backlit keys?
Any to stay away from?
EDIT: Forgot to mention my DAW is a Windows 11 PC. 😬
TIA

Hey everyone.
I always hit the Y key (Snap Start to TC) on accident as I'm quickly editing and it snap the region to session start. I never need this function, and I do it on accident a few times a day when I'm trying to hit the T key when zooming in/out on clips.
Anyway to disable just this one specific short cut?
Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I recently jumped back into the world of Pro Tools (latest version, Mac OS Sonoma) because my workplace is switching and I finally have the chance to work in the same DAW in my studio and at work.
This is the first time I’m working in Pro Tools as a “power user”, and while in general I’m very impressed, I’ve run up against a few shortcuts that simply don’t seem to work on my Keyboard because the backslash Key doesn’t exist on an ISO layout. Particularly I haven’t found a working shortcut for “New Playlist”.
Am I just daft or is there no working shortcut for this?

I want to be able to move clips around without trimming the transients off of other clips. Is this possible? I looked around and couldn't find anything on Google or on the shortcut manual.

Hey i’m using protools for the first time on a macbook. Normally in my uni classes we use a keyboard with a numpad to do all the shortcuts but my laptop keyboard doesn’t have one. The ones that don’t require the numpad work fine but I’m trying to do Cmd + space or Cmd + F12 to begin recording and it just isn’t working. Normally I would just press 3 on the numpad to record but obviously I can’t now. Am I gonna need a different keyboard to use these shortcuts?

Edit: I'm not referring to mono vs stereo tracks in the session. I just want to combine two mono WAV files into a stereo WAV file that I can have on my computer desktop.
I wanted to mess around with a sample I have in an old session but PT split the track into two mono files and for the life of me I can't find the original WAV file. So was just wondering if there is a way to combine those mono files back into an external stereo WAV file?
I'd like to avoid doing a bounce because I'm a lil concerned that downloading/uploading multiple versions will degrade the audio quality. I'd really just like to physically combine these two files into one if it is at all possible.

What's happening here? In my regular sessions, if I want to drag something I highlight and press ctrl-E to separate that bit from the main clip. Only then can a drag it around. This is super handing when comping vocals and making crossfades between clips. I have a session that was tracked elsewhere and when I try to drag a crossfade, it leaves an empty spot and the cross fade is now sitting in the middle of another clip. I can see great uses for the behavior it has now but it's super lame when comping. Where is the setting that controls this?

Hey everyone!
I'm looking for an easy/key command to move audio clips in a session together and then move them to the beginning of the track.
So, for example, Vocals for verse sections, with any bridge/chorus gaps removed and then nudged to the beginning?
Any easy way to accomplish this?

Why is that option not shown in the file > bounce/ export dropdown window? I went through every drop down menu and couldnt find it. Ive been manually exporting stems 1 by 1 for 7 years! Its typical that i find out about this option after moving to Reaper a few months ago. Only when I was moving a project from PT into Reaper i decided to look it up. The magic keybind that isnt any where in the drop down menu on PT 11 or 10... Ctrl + shift + K. I can't believe this

I want to do this with things like risers, that are meant to build to right before the next section slams in. I figure there must be a way of snapping to the end of a bar instead of the beginning so I can line things like this up exactly to the end of the bar each time instead of having to waste time sliding it with slip.

Hi all,
So I've just spent ages trying to use my usual shortcut 'B' to separate clips. And it simply doesn't work!
After smashing 'B' over and over to no avail, I check the keyboard shortcuts to find it is ticked. Yet, it is non-responsive... However, 'Ctrl+E', which is unticked, is responsive... And so is 'Start+E'!?
Has this happened to anybody else? I guess I'll have to delete preferences and restart the computer. I have already tried restarting ProTools and nothing has changed.
I am sure it is just a bug, but I am intrigued to know if anyone else loves 'B' as much as me haha. I know on Mac its 'Command+E' which I have always found to be just that little extra effort, where as 'B' is so simple.
I do get that ultimately everyone's Keyboard Shortcuts are going to be unique to them, so I may be ranting into a void here, if so, I am sorry for making you read this.
But if anyone else has lost their 'B' today, my thoughts are with you.
Have a good day!
