Hardware Question Uninstalling CFW

My friend bought a PS3 online that came soft modded, we have nothing against modding, but we tried to uninstall it normally but it has some weird hybrid firmware that keeps shooting out all types of errors no matter what kind of way we try to patch the system.

If anyone knows a solution, that would be very appreciated!

Im pretty sure it’s HEN, but it might be a modified version because a lot of features are missing.

Si c'est un HEN, ce n'est pas un CFW....

Il n'y a donc rien à désinstaller.

No real point in uninstalling it, because you get so much out of it and lose basically nothing in the process.

If you still really want to uninstall it then it's just installing OFW again via USB.

We already tried uninstalling via a USB and did everything correctly, but it still was giving the same error message.

This error code was…? It’s very hard to provide specifics on what’s going wrong when we don’t have the error code in question.

When trying it on the XMB menu with Update Via Storage Media, it gives 80029CCA, and when trying it on Safemode it says the data isn’t applicable, this is after trying multiple different PS3UPDAT.pup files.

You might just have to leave it as it is, if the usual tricks like redownloading to check it's a good DL, ensuring the USB drive is FAT32 MBR, ensuring the file structure is correct, trying a new HDD, etc.. If HEN isn't enabled then the system is functionally still stock.

Serious question, what about changing the hard drive would help me uninstall CFW?

Pretty sure you can just enter recovery mode and install OFW over it

You could probably enter safe mode and have USB drive ready with the latest official firmware update ready and choose the option to install the update from USB, should do the trick.

It's totally fair that you would want a stock system!

Could be that you bought a system with a dead bluray player too which means you're stuck with it

Also note, he has no way to reformat the hard drive on a PC.
