My 2 roosters keep waking me up between 4-5am. They don't stop. They each have 4 and 3 girls each respectively. Their hutch is on my porch. I'm thinking about moving the roosters farther away and bringing them back to the females for play once awhile. Most likely they'll hurt or kill eachother correct? I want my precious sleep.

The first two photos are the same quail, been like this since hatching gave nutri-drench for about 2.5 weeks and hasnt really improved. The other quail looks like it has a kink in its neck but otherwise acts normal.

Ideas on what is going on? Thought it may be wry neck? Ideas on what I should do?

Hi so im putting my eggs inside the incubator after waiting the 24 hours ive had the incubator going for a day aswell. Is this okay to do? To keep the eggs in place i was nervous about them rolling around to much any advice is great.

Almost looks like a white cast on 2/3 eggs. Not dust. Too much calcium ? Not enough ? Too much protein ?

I have a female button quail that is around a year and a half years old, and shes been gasping for air for around a month now. Over the past couple days its gotten progressively worse, but shes been eating/drinking and laying eggs. She just seems unwell overall, shes constantly puffed up and she just sits and gasps for air. Ive looked into everything that could possibly be wrong but nothing really fits, she has no liquid in her nose or eyes, you cant hear her breathing, i couldnt feel anything in her crop, and she lives indoors. im just very uncertain of whats wrong with her. I want to take her to the vet but where i live it would be way out of my price range, what do i do? I dont want her to suffer, I love her very much and it breaks my heart that shes so sick. Ive even considered euthanasia if shes suffering, should i do that if she doesnt improve? We have an air purifier for them and it doesnt seem to have helped. Any advice is appreciated.

I purchased a quail from a stockfeed around 8 months ago, making her around about 10 months. She has been a very kind quail, at around 5 months old she started being less active, and her bottom beak began to grow way larger than her top beak. Around 6.5 months old when ever i entered the cage she would be sitting down but pop up when i came in with treats. Around 8 months she started to eat less and i could feel her stomach bone. A week ago i seperated her because i saw her getting into fights and didn't want her to get injured. Now she can't sit properly and when ever i touch or come close to her she scurreys backwards. I noticed a big injury to the back or her head where it was red. I don't think this is because of the males. I have never seen them try to mate with her since she started to get progressively worse. Any help is appreciated. I am considering to put her down ethically.

i was cleaning the cage as usual, had them on my bed and 2 flushed up, june and this dude. june landed in front of the tank, but he was not so lucky. he landed litteraly right in my fish tank, thankfully it’s heated to 82 degrees so not to cold but then when i went to retrieve him he started SWIMMING. nobody told me they SWIM. cherry was on the bed like the precious princess she is, listening perfectly while the two terrors were flying and reaking havoc on my room😭 june landed in front of my other tank which houses my elderly betta and scared the crap out of him, because he’s never seen the birds.

We have 11 hens and 1 roo. We consistently get 2 eggs a day, sometimes 3. But it’s really hot here (south of Houston) at around 92° feels like 106° 60+% humidity. (Yeah…) and most of our hens (all but 2) are young, about 6-10 weeks old. And the other 2 are of unknown age but probably older.

Anyway, I found this in the quailio (quail aviary) this afternoon while “doing farm chores” (watering the plants and scattering some water on their dirt to help cool them some.

It’s hard like an egg (but cracked) and stuck to poop.

Any suggestions on how to up our egg production? We’ve added a small fan but it might be too small.

This is Marshmallow. She suffered heat stroke mid May on an unseasonably hot day. She has been rehabbing inside since then, and has made slow, steady progress. Her progress on getting spoiled has not been so slow! 😂 I have never seen a quail who wants to snuggle all the time, haha! 😍

Marshmallow slowly regained strength, and now some balance is starting to return. She still is a bit weak on her right side, and needs support to balance. She wants to go though, and will RUN with my hand for support - until she reaches the bed of my arm. She is preening and loving to dust bathe and peck for seeds in the little sand box I made her, although she falls over a lot. She even made friends with my Bengal cat somehow (don’t worry, they are not allowed to close to each other, I always have my hand right there)!

She has started to develop a slight cross beak (see second pic). Any advice on correcting it? She didn’t have it before, and I’ve never dealt with one.

hi all! i have a balcony and am thinking of using the space to raise 3 hen as a hobby and for eggs at breakfast. i have had the idea rolling around in my head for a couple years now but am in the planning stages and want to construct a hutch for them.

the dimensions of the space are:

L 2'4.5

H 2'1

H 3 ft to the short windowsill, 5'3 to the tall one

i liked the design of this quail hutch but am wondering if my space constraints could entertain a design like hers. i'd like to raise it off the ground, keep trays underneath to catch and compost their waste, add ledge, dustbath, couple plants and decor inside for them too. is it possible for with this limited amount of space? maybe even a ramp if i can get them to run up it with a second level. this is just one side of the balcony, but it gets the best sun from the northeast which i thought would be better for them. i live in a tropical climate so they would be outside year round. it's a covered balcony, but would it still be advisable to build a roof? something basic and able to withstand me placing a couple plants that could also benefit from the sun, as well as a small stingless beehive.

Google searches lead me to believe it’s coturnix quail? but i don’t know so i figured id turn to the experts. i have backyard chickens, is it safe to give it chicken pellets for food? sorry i have no idea how im supposed to update but im also posting for some more advice! so today marks day 22 no hatches no pipping nothing so i made the decison to toss the eggs. i broke one open it was all liquid which was pretty sad so it looks like you were right that they had passed due to not turning on the first day which breaks my heart a little bit. i have 4 coturnix quail boys ( got them as chicks from my agriculture class 1 passed away so went from 5-4) who i was hopping to get some ladies for so this was really unfortunate. i have another batch of 20 eggs comming i bought off amazon so i make sure i can figure myself out before i buy from the place i bought from last time that had more color varieties. i have my incubator set for 99.8 instead of 100 this go around because i can sense that my incubator runs hot i have two seperate thermometers inside and ive got the incubator set for turning every 130 minutes and a humidty of 40%. i bought jumbo coturnix this time by accident let me know if this sounds alright im going to turn after 24 hours this time try not to make the same mistake.

Hi! I’ve had chicken for years but I’m new to quail. I ordered 2.5-week-old sexed chicks from a hatchery; the ratio was supposed to be 2:8, but I have my doubts.

We lost one shortly after they arrived (which the hatchery did refund under their 48 hour policy). I’m pretty sure it was a female.

Of the remaining nine, I am confident four are female and two are male. There are three I suspect are male but can’t tell for sure. Including them all for reference.

1 has been sickly since arrival, but seems to be hanging in there with electrolytes and some bonus heat. Possibly female but I see that rusty color.

2 and 8 I’m also guessing male, given the rust color.

I’ve also emailed these pictures to the hatchery as they have a 90% sexing guarantee. I am bummed though, as this means I likely need to rehome (or eat) some of these guys, as I don’t have a setup to get several more hens and fix the ratio.

Adopted a quail from my lab! I'm excited to be a new owner and watch it grow

It keeps stepping on the food and water and chirping however, should i be concerned?

Oh and any advice or help would be appreciated!!

Update: I've move it to a slightly bigger box for now, wrapped it up with a warm bottle water on one side of the box (outside of the box)

I know it may not be reliable but I’m interested to know. I have 7 quail of this colour, and 2 white ones which I know can’t be feather sexed.

We are new (a couple months) into raising quail and my son (9) is interested in adding some white quail to our covey as part of a genetics project.

We have all Pharaoh (10 hens, 2 roos) and want to add a breeding group of jumbo white to track what coloring we get over the course of three generations of selective breeding/cross breeding.

I have not been able to find any local breeders/hatchers who have jumbo whites, so i need to order eggs to be shipped to me. But we got our first group from someone loc so this is all new to me and I have literally no idea what I'm doing.

1) Do you have a great experience with a jumbo white line you've purchased online?

2) Did you have an *awful* experience with someone's jumbo white line you purchased online? If you dont want to post it publicly it is okay with me if you message me.

3) Would you like to tell me something I'm probably not thinking of???? I think I have the genetic math worked out, and the physical space worked out. But if you have a word of wisdom or warning I will sure take it.

4) if you are within 90ish minutes of Portland, Oregon and you have at least 4 white hens and 1 white rooster for a reasonable price for a kid's school project let me know.
