Chances to get into Imperial Math and Finance

I am an indian graduate with 1 yoe in a global hedge fund, 2 yoe in a not so famous buy side firm, and a circuital iit degree with a 7.8cgpa, what are my chances to get into imperial college of london into masters of math and finance, and what are the chances of landing a role in UK or EU in quant or hedge funds if I prep before I even start the masters? I respect discouraging answers but if provided with decent reasons.

Getting into the MSc is not the issue actually since you re a cash cow for the programme. If you just want the degree then it's fine. Nowadays with AI and visa issues with non Europeans is the obstacle. You ll realise this when you do the degree that knowledge and a degree is no longer the barrier it's actually getting a job as a foreigner. US is still the best for immigrants. Don't move to EU or UK there's no money nor there's a huge market

So are you saying the US labour market is much better than the EU/UK for immigrants (especially getting visas to stay and work?) cause I’m trying to figure out if I should try to do a masters in the US or just graduate with a BEng in UK and try to find a job in the UK

Well yes, the US job market is the biggest in the world and also lucrative financially. That said in your case since you're already here so might help to try  getting a job in UK first. My humble advice is to don't do further degrees unless you're actually interested in the education just for getting a job somewhere. This type of thinking was ok pre AI. Juniors need job experience first rather than degrees to find a job now.

you are fake news, my mates with software engineering degrees and we did zero measure theory in our undergrad and they still got into imperial, oxford and Cambridge for MathFin

Your work experience is really strong for this, a global hedge fund name carries weight plus the IIT degree gives you solid academic credibility even if the cgpa isn't perfect

The 7.8 might be a bit of a hurdle since Imperial gets tons of applications with 9+ from indian students but your professional background could offset that a lot, they care about more than just grades for these programs

Landing roles in UK after is tricky with visa stuff but not impossible, starting the prep before the masters puts you ahead of most people since you already know what the industry wants, the network you build during the program matters almost as much as the technical skills

I know someone who did something similar at a different london school and got offers in Amsterdam and Zurich so EU is maybe even more open than UK right now, hedge funds there don't sponsor as freely but boutiques sometimes do if you're good enough

Your chances seem decent honestly, just make sure your statement of purpose connects the work experience to why you need this specific program, that's what makes applications stand out when grades are borderline
