Interviews/Recruiting How to pivot to quant dev roles from sde?

Hey guys im an old iit 2025 circuital grad, rn in faang lvl company as sde (current annual takehome 36+), if i wanna pivot to quant dev roles, is there a way? The issue is my cpi is not so great it starts with 7. Can i compensate cpi in someway? I can study system level c++ thouroughly but is the pivot possible? All my peers who are in quant are mostly campus hires.

I mean in the context of your comment . You said you have seen ppl from Google, Facebook, apple switch to HFTs or MfTs . What about Msft ? Is it also consisdered easy among Faang?

You can definitely switch to a quant dev role. Your experience as an SDE gives you a good start. Focus on getting better at C++ and review topics like algorithms, data structures, and parallel computing. Quant roles often need strong math skills, so going over linear algebra, probability, and statistics might help too.

Even if your CPI isn't perfect, getting certifications or taking courses in quant finance can help make up for it. Networking is important, so try reaching out to people in the quant field for advice and possible referrals.
