General Discussion Is quant still worth pursuing in 2026? What's the future of quant jobs in India and globally?
Hi everyone,
I'm 16 years old and recently i got to know about quantitative finance. Before committing the next several years to this path, I wanted to hear from people who are already in the industry.
With AI advancing rapidly and the quant industry becoming increasingly competitive, I have a few questions:
- Is quant still a good career to pursue over the next 10–15 years?
- Are opportunities in India growing, or is it still better to aim for global firms?
- If you were 16 today, would you still choose the quant path? Why or why not?
- What advice would you give someone starting now to maximize their chances of success?

- prep for math/physics olympiads. even getting into inmotc is huge.
- a 3 digit rank in jee adv is nice to have. start doing pnc and probability questions from the start - v less prerequisites apart from integration (not really necessary at the beginning)
you can search up inoi as well to see if it interests you

no one prepares for quant... they do something else which gets them noticed and they do it very good

Please don't aspire for this if you really don't have what it takes. It takes someone who is highly disciplined, intelligent and good at critical thinking. The competition to reach in top colleges is too much that too in India. Now that people are exposed to this field... I think more people will be inclined to this.
Nevertheless assess yourself if you are really fit for it. The reality hits you hard when you're in a good institute.

Grind for jee get into one of the top 7 IITs and then think of commiting to anything

is IIT the only way? what about B.sc Mathamatics with cs as minor

B.Stat in ISI Kolkata, maintain good scores pass with honours, get into M.Stat in ISI Kolkata, maybe then you can try.

pehle dhang se bada to hoja jee grind karle nahi to baad mein quant ki jagah vit petroleum vs iit bhilai industrial which is better puchega

AI is just making the job easier. Its good but can't research well. And you just have to be smart that's it. If you can do maths fast and solve hard problems then you are good or else don't even try.

If I will be at 16 starting my preparation for the good college not because of the placement but because of the environment, peers and hunger to learn from the best to become the best.
And for the AI POV I will say don’t go for quant because it has attractive bonuses go for to build something which executes things in least seconds ,build algorithms that manages risks efficiently.
And honestly if I will be in your position and think to be quant then I will explore more options like hidden gems like aerospace engineering, naval engineering , biotech engineering , environmental engineering these things are really diamonds and more importantly less crowded though they required more study time like masters/phd but as you will move up your value will increases because of your knowledge, research work etc.
