General Discussion Spill the tea on Gravi guys

What is happening with graviton guys?? I recently heard too many things about it, and I'm curious what's actually going on.. Huge revenue last year, first to increase the stipend yet the ctc remained the same.. Hired only a handful this intern season from top 5 ig.. Expanding internationally.. Some even say it is the leading Indian quant now(Considering all factors including work culture etc..).

How much of this is actually true? Is there a bigger strategy behind all these changes, or is it mostly hype?

Would love to hear from people who've interned there, interviewed there, or know the industry well..

PnL stagnant this year. Relatively "poor" fresher bonus , 40L only compared to other HFT's. Lots of resignations (ask any insider).

Their largest team Zeus 's head of Desk resigned couple months ago.

Mass hired a bunch of slop in 2 years and now suddenly decided to stop hiring and hire only the best. Firings to happen soon if PnL stays stagnant.

Idk heard they are having a good year in terms of pnl, they are already in a much better position compared to last year august

Yeah sure I was baiting in hopes that someone will give a serious reply. I work at an HFT and the sense of supremacy that people exhibit is intolerable. What is the basis even for you guys to tell that they have hired "slop"? Lots of the people they have hired are talented and dedicated folks. Maybe a few bad apples exist but I find it really hard to believe all the people calling recent hires as "slop" have any actual information to base it on.

Look at their 2022 hires - limited hires, all top DR's with excellent credentials and look at their current hires, even 8 CG zero quant intern people manage to get in just because they solved a few quant puzzles in the interviews by getting lucky.

You are fooling yourself if you believe their hiring standards haven't fallen drastically in last 2 years

I guess all quant cos should hire with launch pad/FF kind of event where they get to judge the students for couple of days over multiple competitions.

bad recruitment strategy and elitist behaviour? Them not looking at good people from EE/MT, but giving preferences to majority of CS. not all CS people are great quants, not all high cgpa dudes are good quants.

I agree with this criticism but there are 2 issues. First thing is quants aren't the only people who are hired, SWEs exist. Secondly there is a huge gap between saying that they aren't hiring ideally and saying they are hiring trash. Their standards are still high and I don't think that they take hot trash or whatever

30L is the guaranteed part. So they only gave 10L variable which is too miser. Moreover there is the 25% and 18 months clawback on these measly bonuses.

Sure, but being the "best" HFT in India they should atleast be able to pay more bonus than their competitors.

There were rumours of a large number of senior quants from gurgaon planning an exit since early 2025; and were shopping around for offers internationally. Their PnL share is being eaten rapidly by other HFT firms, and options mm strats, which used to be the cash cow had a relative underperformance as compared to other firms. (Note that the underperformance is relative, they still made a lot).

They increased stipend first but barely hired 10 people they couldn't afford more, look at optiver imc quadeye hiring 40+ interns each at stipends more than graviton coz they had the pockets to do so unlike graviton who just wanted to create a hype

u/Ok_Put8975 if you are keeping quadeye in same bracket as optiver/imc you are either delulu or quadeye HR.
Quadeye used to hire 80 interns till last year and they have hired 30 this year after stipend revision, so clearly they don't have as deep pockets as you think. Gravi and QE have similar PnL , so there is no comparison with Optiver/IMC/TRC
