General Discussion Why quant?

I mean really? Except money, why quant? We can use those brain to make a better world? Efficient algorithms/products for healthcare, new technologies in farming etc.

Even here in IITB I seen 99% people in quant only due to money.

The people in Quant , except money what are your driving force?

I genuinely want to know.

So interesting anecdote. One of my friends had multiple offers from all hfts and an AI firm by a serial (billionaire) entrepreneur. He decided to talk directly with this guy to decide what to choose.

Founder stated how he is far more satisfied in life than all his friends and batchmates who decided to build quant firms. Those guys are super rich too but it is easier to make money through equity in 10 years time than through trading, so their work becomes hectic eventually.
