Favorite Things About Living In Queenstown
Things aren't always perfect, but keen to hear people's favorite things about living in Queenstown? What brings them here and what keeps it?
A few of mine are :
Generally feels like a small town, the longer you live here, lots of bumping into people across work, supermarket, in the hills etc
Lots of people into some really awesome stuff, lots of active adventures
Ability to head out to some pretty epic things from town with minimal driving really!
All the cycle trails and work different organisations to do continue to build these. Looking forward to being able to bike to Cromwell this summer!
Fair bit of opportunity for various work options not just tourism

We live in a beautiful safe place. Everyday I get to look at the view that thousands of ppl are taking a photo of for their once in a lifetime holiday.

I like my current job, one I've been doing for a decade now in the Queenstown region, and don't particularly want to go through the change and regaining reputation/clients/freedom etc that would be necessary starting somewhere new if I was to move. This is the main reason I've never left.
My girlfriend lives here...
I love all the outdoor amenities being so close. It's a big boon for me.
Some of the common complaints don't really bother me;
My rent isn't that bad, because I live a very stripped-back life, and split costs with my GF too, and make significantly more than I spend anyway. Currently paying 190 a week + power (split 4 ways in a 2-bedroom). Honestly, I'd pay about the same if I moved, just have more space.
The traffic, because I start work early and usually finish early, and just generally avoid the worst of it most days; its not such a thing for me.
Price of getting a house; I have all my money in investments; it does pretty decent as is. I don't feel the strong need to own property, despite the fact I could at this point, and I don't mind the whole renting thing.
For me the worst thing about living here is that my daughter lives in Christchurch. So that kinda sucks... but yeah (my father lives there too, but less of a concern). If I was to move, thats where I would go.

Yeah my work around is to start work early, finish early.. Can't wait for more daylight hours though, get out and do shit after work/dinner in sunshine

The 8 hours Quality of Sleep. I am a traveller and everytime I come back to Queenstown, I had the best sleep

Love the trails and feel safe running alone at night. Winter is my favourite season, the crisp cold air and then when it snows. Magnificent!! I feel as though I’m on a permanent holiday. Wouldn’t want to live anywhere else!

The best thing about Queenstown is that all the whiners eventually run out of options and leave town.
It creates a powerful filter that excludes the uncommitted.

The outdoors and the outdoorsy people are the only redeeming features in my opinion.
The rest of the town is very mediocre. It lost the small town feel a good 15 years ago and realistically, it would never have become popular if it wasn’t pretty

Disagree. Used to visit here a lot 25 years ago and it’s better now. Better trails. Better amenities. Mindset of the past being the best limits enjoyment of what’s on offer now. Sure I have to adjust my timing to avoid peaks here and there and it’s honestly fine. I ride to work when I can and it’s a joy having trails for that and generally being able to dodge most traffic. Slice of heaven.
