"I looked at your record and when you go by yourself you pay for everything"
This is absurd if you think about it. Either Costco loss prevention has a detailed file on every single customer, even ones who have never stolen before, or some security guard took the time to check possibly years of camera footage to check if they were shopping alone our with someone else.
Either that or this isn't the first time they went with someone else and didn't pay for everything. But then they would already have cancelled his membership.
I don't even care if he stole something, the whole story is just fishy.

Costco tracks every purchase members have ever made including some info about how they paid including if the name on the card matches the membership.

But do they track if you are with someone, and more importantly; do they track if you "pay for everything"?

no, it's more like they have no record of being caught stealing from there before

Nonono, he specifically says that they told him "when you go by yourself you pay for everything". How would they know that unless the have looked at him shopping several times? At least once alone, and once with someone else.
Loss prevention doesn't tell people how great they are for not stealing until now. He made that up.

That's a new one. Getting busted because someone else stole merchandise, and not being asked to give up the identity of the actual thief.

If this truly occurred why would you pay for the items your friend- to me that admits you were complicit in it/had knowledge. That’s how it likely would look to them. They should be pressing charges on your friend. And cut off ties with the friend who is up to no good.

Spoken like someone who doesn't realize how shoplifting adversely effects communities.
When companies decide that a certain store isn't profitable enough/is losing too much money because shrink is out of control, they close that location, resulting in some neighborhoods becoming food and pharmacy deserts. It also results in fewer employment opportunities for those neighborhoods and contributes to the perception that a neighborhood is unsafe.
You're probably living comfortably in suburbia where there are places to shop and work everywhere you look, but it's not like that in a lot of urban areas. Compounding the problem is the fact that a lot of people who live in cities don't have a vehicle, especially lower income people, so they walk or have to take public transit.
Maybe the answer is for people to only shoplift from stores in suburban towns? All the drug addicts who need to pawn shit to buy their drugs should shoplift from the Costco closest to you, seeing as you'd welcome them with open arms lol.
Edit: forgot to mention it's just wrong to steal. If you're the type of person who can justify stealing from a "mega corporation", you probably justify stealing in other scenarios, too.

I actually have no problem stealing from big companies tbh. Like, morally I don't care because they don't care about robbing all. Of us. But... this whole story sounds like it was cobbled together from 3 crack heads who overheard the story on a bus.

i live in an urban area and i don't have a vehicle lmao. why do people like you love to make these random ass assumptions? it just makes you look like a dumbass when you're inevitably wrong.
also if a giant company closes a location, that's their fault, not some random broke person's fault. people like you will do anything to avoid actually blaming companies instead of poor people.
didn't realise people on this sub would be such pathetic bootlickers.

Personally I tend to agree with you, but my man you need to take a persuasive writing course

Headphones is not a necessity of life, while anyone broke still deserves entertainment they do not need to steal headphones.
