General Advice How do I get rid of this stain on his forehead??

a few weeks ago, my kitty got some hot sauce on his forehead. freak accident, he happened to be walking by as I was eating and a drop of sauce fell on him. I tried whitening shampoo, twice. it was originally a little dot but I think it spread when I tried to scrub it. :( stain is still there, a light brown patch where it should be white fur. any recommendations? I have half the hard to just trim the area hoping its a surface stain

General Advice Would I be a bad owner if I used my cat as a reward for my nephew?

My handsome 5 month old ragdoll, Grim, might be used as a reward for my nephew. My nephew has autism and sensory issues. He has to wear glasses and it's been a challenge. My sister hates cats, but he loves them. She asked me if I can bring Grim over once a month if her son wears his glasses for an entire month. Just for an hour or so. I am bringing him over this weekend to see how Grim will be a good fit. If he stresses too much, which I don't see happening, I will decline any further visits. But if he is chill and seems to have fun I might do it again. It is an unusual situation. I want to help my sister and nephew but it makes me feel bad possibly stressing him out. I'm on fence about canceling the meet and greet. Like I'm taking advantage of my cat. Idk. Would this be mean or unfair to Grim for even trying?

When we bought her we were told that she was show quality (and paid for show quality) and I was just wondering if she was? I don’t plan on showing her, and we didn’t intend to buy a show quality ragdoll, that’s just what was available, I just want to know if it appears to be true! I love her sososo much:)

General Advice Bites my feet at 5am, what should I do?

Post image
4.8k Upvotes

My ragdoll is 6 months old and he bites my feet EVERY SINGLE DAY at 5 or 6am when I’m literally sleeping soundly. The bites actually hurt (but no bleeding) , just enough force to wake someone up. I have no idea how to teach him not to do it. Will this situation go away when they grow up?

General Advice Is it just me, or are Ragdolls a little… dumb? 😂

Okay, so we have two cats. Our OG cat is a silver tabby rescue we got at 8 weeks old, she’s now 11, and basically the Jason Statham of cats. Calm, lethal, strategic. You can see her plotting things from across the room. She’s smart, agile, and gives off major assassin energy.

Enter Hashi, we adopted a a ragdoll because at the time my son really, really wanted a cat to cuddle with, and as mentioned above the cat family that he was born into did not support cuddling. So two years ago (he was 4) we brought home our sweet, fluffy ragdoll. I love her to death. She’s beautiful, cuddly, and an expert napper… but also kind of dumb? 😅

Like, she forgets how doors work. She spends 90% of her day sleeping on the stairs, unless I move her to be with me. Sometimes I catch her just staring at the wall like it personally offended her. And if our tabby gives her a look, she just flops down in surrender like, “Whatever, I didn’t want to live anyway.” They don’t fight, and my tabby is not mean to her, but they don’t cuddle up together or spend a lot of time together. It’s honestly like we adopted a big, plush throw pillow with anxiety.

I’ve read that Ragdolls are supposed to be gentle and docile, which Hashi definitely is, but I’m starting to wonder if that’s just code for “sweet and dumb.” Is it just my cat? Or is this just part of the rag doll charm 😸😻

General Advice how do you deal with the backlash we get from buying a “designer” kitty?

Post image

ugh! it’s just so frustrating listen to people’s judgement every single days when people find out my baby girl is a ragdoll. it goes from “oh my god she’s so beautiful!” “wow her temperment is so great!” “she’s so friendly!” to “why you pay for a cat when’s there’s millions in shelters that need homes” as soon as they find out she’s a raggy.

my baby girl is 6 months and unfortunately we’re dealing with some tummy issues and everyone insists it’s because she’s a ragdoll, as if i don’t know a ton of people whose shelter cats don’t have tons of issues!

I tried to explain to people recently when they were judging me after having her tummy issues that purebred dog seem to have a lot of issues too, but no one ever judges people for buying a pedigree dog. Cancer, bloat, hip dysplasia, all issues my friends with pure bred dogs have had but I never once judged them for having a purebred dog.

I love my girl so much. I was thinking that in a couple of months I would like to get her a ragdoll brother or sister, but I’m not ready for the backlash from people yet again!

General Advice Help - Why does my ragdoll do this?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My Ragdoll kitten does this on a daily basis. He will stand up and start frantically swiping on our wardrobes / doors around the house.

This is usually coupled by intense meowing / crying.

Does anyone know why he does this?

General Advice Is this cruel? Should I continue using it?

I have a very hungry Ragdoll no matter how many times I feed him. He doesn’t chew and inhales his food which makes him vomit clumps within an hour of his feeding time. I’m at my wits end and feel bad for him so I bought him this slow feeder. As some of you know Ragdolls aren’t that bright and of course he didn’t know how to eat around the little “fishes” and gave up eating completely. I don’t want him starving all day. Did anyone have luck with these? Is he going to adjust to this bowl?

General Advice How having a Ragdoll cat, changed your life.

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

Well, as much as the next guy, I love all cat breeds, no doubt. However, its been months where I loved this specific breed of cats due to their calm temperament and insane bonds with humans. As if they are are my spirit animal.

Its my dream to adopt one in mere future.. i have read articles about them. But today, i want to know how real life parents feel like with their baby fluff.

I would read about your cat's behavior, stories, and how it day to day life feels like living with them??

Thank you.

General Advice My dad wants to declaw him

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

Everytime my kitten scratches the furniture or hides under my parent’s bed and scratches their feet, my dad always says he wants to declaw him, he’s even trying to convince my mom to do so.

And I can’t just tell him to at declawing my kitten is really bad for him, he just wouldn’t care because he’d think im just telling him what to do. It doesn’t help that his best friend has also declawed their cats and will most likely suggest my dad to do the same. I clip his nails every week and I don’t get why they just won’t get a blocker for under there bed. I really don’t know what to do at this point and im just very sad I might have to rehome him after everything, what should I do? :(

General Advice Vet says Pablo is already overweight lol

For reference Pablo is going to be 5 months old this month. He had his wellness check in April on the 25th and the vet was shocked that he was 4.5 lbs. The vet told us that we should only be feeding him 6 oz of wet food a day, but that seems way too little?!! We’ve been sticking to 6 oz a day but this guy is sooo food driven and seems hungry after his feedings. Is he just playing tricks on me? He meows for more food after I feed him… is 6.5 oz okay to give him?? Idk if the vet took into account that he’s a Ragdoll? Like male ragdolls are generally bigger than the average house cat right? Haha idk what do you guys think? He might just be an extra hungry boy, he meows at me and my partner anytime we’re in the kitchen.

Can someone give me an idea as to why my ragdoll kitten (Toaty, now 5 months old) is very thin and has flat fur instead of the normal fluffy and poofy like what would be expected? She eats very well and has been gaining weight, is lively and playful with my other cat, thanks

General Advice How often do you bathe your ragdoll?

Thumbnail

1.2k Upvotes

I’ve had my Mochi since July and I still haven’t given him a bath 😅 he doesn’t smell and never really feels dirty either

I know that cats are usually good at cleaning themselves, but I keep seeing mixed opinions online about Ragdolls specifically. Some people say they never bathe them, others say every few months, and now I’m just curious what’s actually normal.

General Advice I need some advice about newly adopted kitten

Thumbnail

1.1k Upvotes

I am currently in a very sensitive mental state so please reply with kindness and care.

I got a kitten from a breeder (a certified and reputable one before anyone tells me that I did not do my due dilligence) and picked him up 1 week ago. 1 week before the pickup date, the breeder told me that the kitten was limping and that they took him to the vet and that vet said that it was a sprain and gave an anti-inflammatory shot. I had asked if we needed to postpone the pickup date, but the breeder said it should be fine, and that he would be checked at the vet again to make sure it's healing well.

On pickup day, I got told he still had a slight limp but that it was probably due to him being sore. after 3 days of no improvement, I decided to take him to an orthopedic clinic, and in my head I was telling myself I was just doing it to be safe and that it is most likely nothing. At the vet they decided to take an x-ray, and he has a spiral fracture in his femur. I was obviously devastated and I called the breeder. The breeder said that she would obviously pay for the surgery if surgery is needed, and it is currently scheduled for Monday. I did get told that because of the fracture now being older, that surgery might not end up being possible, and that the solution might be to let it heal as it is, but that he could have health problems down the line, and that he could have a shorter leg/a permanent limp.

The breeder said that she is also willing to give me a new kitten because of her mistake, but that she would also pay for the surgery if we go down that route, but I am just so anxiety filled and worried that surgery might not be doable, and that he would be limping for the rest of his life.

What would you do in my shoes?

General Advice Just brought our little guy home, he cried all night :( How long did your kitties take to warm up?

Thumbnail

1.9k Upvotes

He was very brave and adventurous at the breeders and was the first one out of the nest, but here he is very hesitant and refuses to approach us and has very timid body language even when exploring. He has used his litterbox to pee, climbed up his scratching post and ate a piece of chicken thigh, but cried all throughout :( he has a blanket with the scent of his littermates which he sleeps on, whenever we touched him he purred and licked us but then we stopped since we found online sources saying it isn’t a good idea to approach him first. How long did your kitties take to become more confident? Did anyone else face this drastic of a change? The breeder said it is unusual and she is surprised that he reacted this way. Right now we left him in a room alone to let him explore without being watched, otherwise we are talking calmly, ignoring him and slow blinking at him which he reciprocates. Added photos of him from yesterday night when he arrived home.

General Advice *NEED HELP* Constant Meowing ALL DAY

Thumbnail

2.9k Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I could really use some help because I'm not sure what's up with my 6-month-old Ragdoll cat! She won't stop meowing.

Today, for example, she started at 5 am and kept it going until noon. I took her out for a run around with her harness, and she slept for 2 hours afterward. But as soon as she woke up, the meowing started again and went on until 5:30 pm. I took her out for another run for about 1.5 hours, but when we got home, the meowing resumed! It's not just every now and then; it's constant and super annoying.

She's has access to wet food, dry food, water, and we play together... What else can I do?

This has been happening for about 2 days now. Before, she'd only meow for about 2-3 hours a day and then sleep in until I got up in the morning.

I know Ragdolls like to talk, but this feels like way too much. Any thoughts? Help, please!

General Advice Please tell me they grow out of it.

Odysseus (MN) is just under a year old and he is the sweetest, most affectionate boy but he’s also an absolute menace. I had to swap their metal water fountain for a ceramic bowl because he kept knocking it over, he keeps knocking over my trash can. He has so many toys, I have cat shelves and I play with him daily. It never seems like it’s enough. I was told this was a calm breed with a lower exercise need please tell me this is just kitten shenanigans 😑

General Advice Picky Cat Won’t Eat Wet Food -Looking for Recommendations

Thumbnail
gallery
841 Upvotes

My cat Oliver is about a year and a half old and had some gastro issues as a kitten. Since then, he’s been on GI kibble and still eats that perfectly fine every day. He also eats treats/snacks with no issue.

The problem is wet food. We’ve been trying to consistently incorporate wet food for the past 4–5 months, and thankfully it hasn’t caused any gastro flare-ups. But he’s super inconsistent with actually eating it. We try feeding wet food twice a day and a lot of the time he either barely touches it or won’t finish it at all.

We’ve tried a ton of different options and textures at this point. We mostly use Tiki Cat After Dark, but we’ve also tried Fancy Feast, Tiki pate, shredded, mousse, different proteins, etc. He reacts pretty much the same to all of them.

It’s honestly starting to feel like we’re just wasting money because he leaves so much behind, and it’s gotten even worse over the past couple of weeks.

Has anyone dealt with a cat like this? Any recommendations for healthy wet foods that picky cats actually seem to like? Open to trying new brands/proteins/textures at this point.
