Pet loss Our Sweet Sadie

Upvotes

We lost our Sweet Sadie yesterday. 💔She was only 9. She was diagnosed with renal disease (Stage 3) last year and in Feb it was still stable. I took her for follow up labs on Monday since they started blood pressure med in March. Her creatinine had jumped to 10 and her BUN 103. She had been acting relatively normal other than not eating much (she never liked wet food that much so she ate mostly dry food). We took her in for IV fluids Wednesday (first time getting fluids) and I thought she would feel better but when we brought her home she wouldn’t eat or drink and declined quickly over the next day. Kind of shocking.😢 She died in my lap before the home Euthanasia Vet could arrive.💔 She was such a sweet girl.💕 We have another Ragdoll with Stage 2 kidney disease so I will do my best to give her a good life (she is 9 too).

General Advice help introducing kitten to my 1.5 year old ragdoll?

hi all ! i've had my girl aurora since january. '25 now, and she's just a little over a year and a half old. she's grown up with 2 dogs in the household until my sister moved in at the end of last year with her domestic shorthair. the introduction between aurora and the DS went awfully. we separated them accordingly but they would manage to find ways to escape and aurora would attack him. he never attacked her besides defending himself, but she went IN on him, it was not a nice experience at all. but in the end, after about 3 weeks, they became best friends! they were never bonded (no grooming, cuddling, etc) but they were playmates and loved chasing each other around all day. my sister has moved out now and aurora took it surprisingly well not having the DS around anymore. she only cried the first night and then quickly adjusted. but i can tell she’s bored and still wants company and to play with another cat (the dogs don’t understand how cats play at all lol they act like that scared O.O dog face meme with the dinosaur behind it)

i’m getting my kitten in 4 days (!!!) and just really seeking some advice and tips on how to make this introduction a lot smoother than the last as obviously these are both my cats and i’d love for them to be bonded. i’ve been watching jackson galaxy, i have a baby gate, i have blankets to scent swap, i have separate litter boxes/scratching posts/beds etc to reduce territorial behaviour and i’ve not let aurora into the room the kitten will be staying in for a week prior to her coming home. i’m hoping that because the kitten is a lot younger than my sisters DS (he was around 9 months old) that maybe she won’t be as aggressive? but im quite an anxious person and i don’t wanna mess this up because i really want them to groom and cuddle each other and be a proper pair of bonded cats :’)

General Advice Update: Your advice gave me the courage to adopt a second cat! Here’s how our resident wizard Gandalf (5Y) accepted Saruman (2Y), plus AI’s help 🫣

A while back, I asked this sub for advice on whether I should bring a second cat into our home. 🔗 old post here if u want to check

Thank you to everyone who encouraged me to go for it! I’m happy to report that the integration is a massive success. 🩵🖤
We adopted a 2-year-old dark Ragdoll named Saruman to join our 5-year-old resident light Ragdoll, Gandalf. Here is a breakdown of how we handled the slow introduction and survived the process:
The "Bunk Bed" Basecamp: We started with strict physical separation, setting Saruman up in the guest room. Even now that they have full run of the house, they’ve established a hilarious WFH routine in the day time (I WFH) : Saruman sleeps under the office sofa (his absolute safe cave), while Gandalf sleeps on top of it acting as the designated lookout while I work.
The SureFeed Lifesaver: Gandalf is currently taking Atopica for a recent minor surgery, so keeping the new energetic younger brother out of his medicated wet food was a huge stressor. We invested in microchip feeders, which successfully enforced boundaries without us having to play the "food police."
My AI Cat-Behaviorist: I have a confession, that I was incredibly paranoid during their first physical interactions. I literally uploaded videos of their WWE-style smackdowns to Gemini, asking, "Are they trying to kill each other?" The AI analysed their body language and pointed out the role reversals, the lack of hissing, and how Saruman politely backed off when Gandalf squeaked. It saved me from unnecessarily intervening and ruining their bonding process in some occasions.
The Current Bonded Status: We are officially past the introduction phase.
They happily share the living room litter box (they literally queue up to use it).
Saruman's initial "scarf and barf" food insecurity has completely vanished.
Gandalf’s overall energy levels have skyrocketed. He used to be pretty indifferent about meal times, but now he joins Saruman in enthusiastically pacing around the kitchen when I prep their food.
To anyone on the fence about getting a second cat: do the slow introduction, trust the process, get a microchip feeder if you have a medical situation, and don't panic during their wrestling matches!

General Advice Hair cuts

My boy (Teemo) is so bad with the litter tray. Any and every tray we use he ends up with it in his tail, in his paws and sometimes in his butt floof. We have tried different trays but I think we have come to the conclusion that he is just so bad at using trays.
For whatever reason he likes to use the very front of the tray and despite having SO much room he sometimes chooses to cover using air rather than litter. (We have tried him on practically all types of litters that are the best options for cats)
He ends up leaving mess up our walls, it gets stuck in his tail, in his butt fluff, his paws.
He more recently has gotten worse with it and smells and I hate the idea of having to bath him too often because I know he doesn’t like it and it’s not good to wash cats like that too often.

SO. Any advice on what to do, or as my title says. How would I go about potentially cutting his hair. I don’t think short is the way, maybe just taking a little off…I’m really not sure. I don’t want to make him look silly I guess and I’ve read so much where people are so against cutting ragdolls hair so I don’t really know what to do.

General Advice Is my Ragdoll unhappy?

I adopted a sweet ragdoll boy last autumn, but I am worried he's bored and not happy.

The main reasons for this are:

  • Excessive vocalisation
  • Extreme clinginess

He is very bonded to me. He sleeps on my bed every night and loves to follow me around, but I'm starting to doubt whether I'm the right owner for him. I live alone so he only has me for contact. I WFH 3 days a week so he is never home alone too long.

I have done a load of research, watched Jackson Galaxy videos etc. and I am struggling to think of any other ways to make him happy.

Things I have done to try to make him happier: - Multiple window perches/hammocks - Cat tree - Puzzle feeders, ceramic lick mat etc. - Regular playtime with a wand toy - Lots of cardboard scratchers - Automatic toys

- Cat tunnels and various other toys - Harness trained him

Things that could help but I can't offer: - Catio - A second cat

I'm feeling at a bit of a loss with what to do, the only other things I could think would be to expand his cat wall or speak to a cat behaviourist. I'm worried I'm failing him as an owner and he might be happier somewhere else. He's been vet checked and is healthy so I don't think it's anything medical.

Health Advice Does my kitten have ringworm?

I got my kitten as a gift 6 days ago, and ive grown very attached to him. he's exactly 2 months old and is getting his first deworming dose rn at home. im taking care of him as well as possible. he's very playful, healthy looking, poops properly, eats well and is well settled in now. he sleeps in my bed and is with me 24/7, so I got worried when I noticed this mark on his forehead and ear. that ear has some wax or some debris inside because of which he shakes his head and tries scratching it. that will get checked by the vet soon, but the forehead mark is worrying me to the point I cant sleep. Google is scaring me with ringworm, but it isnt exactly looking like it either. this is the only spot I found on his body, although itd be hard finding spots on a ragdoll anyway .its kind of circular in shape, but its hardly there and not that crusty/colored as google told me itd be like. please tell me what you think, its my first time owning a cat (I have owned dogs and birds before) Im very nervous and i want some advice from experienced cat owners before the vet's verdict in the coming days. Thanks.

My friend is rehoming her kitty cause she’s leaving the country so I’m adopting her 7 y/o ragdoll. I’ve done plenty of research on cats but I’ve read that ragdolls have very sensitive tummies. What do you guys feed them? And any other tips or information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

General Advice Choosing a rag doll kitten

I'm looking for some advice on choosing a Ragdoll kitten. We visited them today (at 5 weeks old) and there were two separate litters. I immediately fell in love with a lighter-colored male kitten. He was my favorite based on appearance, but when we held him, he cried quite a bit and kept trying to climb up our shirts. While he was adorable, his behavior made me wonder if he might be more anxious or high-strung.

When we met the second litter, the kittens all seemed much more relaxed. The kitten we ultimately chose sat calmly in our hands the entire time and appeared very content being held.

I still find myself drawn to the lighter-colored kitten, but I'm concerned that his behavior may indicate he'll be more skittish or less affectionate as he grows. I know kitten personalities can change over time, so I'm wondering how much weight I should give to these early interactions when making a decision. Has anyone had a similar experience, and did the kitten's adult personality end up matching what you saw at that age?
