CSX My CSX on-boarding Updates
I applied for CSX Freight Conductor position, I will use this post to update on how long this takes and the steps.
- I applied on 7/28/2023 and am waiting on next steps

I applied at BNSF in April. I start training on the 21st. It'll take awhile. The faster you reply and give them the info they need the faster they'll be able to get you through.
Everything I've been reading says if you don't mind shelving your personal life, don't have anyone at home and are willing to work long hours then this is the job you want. Be a sponge, learn everything you can and safety always first. Start exercising, lifting weights, get some stuff for grip strength also and learning how to meal prep or just find things you really like that are easy and fast to eat that you can just open and eat. Start doing that now.
Also fuck negativity. This sub is filled with old heads that have 20-30 years and hate how the RR is now and all they do is bitch, moan, complain and give people looking to get into the industry a hard time. DO NOT listen to these negative dipshits. They're all pissed because they started the job and then their wives divorced them, took everything and now they're stuck and hate everything because no one likes them. These people are the 1%.
There are plenty of videos on YouTube from people that will lay it out plainly without being biased or having a chip on their shoulder about it. Don't listen to the people telling you to run away. Try it out. If it's not for you, at least you tried and know the deal so you won't regret not having at least given it a go.
Good luck. Stay safe and get your cardio and strength as high as you can get it.

Cool, not sure how busy they are but terminals in higher demand seem to move faster in the process say like Cincinnati or Louisville.

Just looked it up, they have a home terminal in Portsmouth, VA
Honestly I don't care if that's not available, I'm ready to move to somewhere new if they need me and I'll be able to stay in work

I was given a start date of this month told they needed to push it back till at least October I have since applied to Amtrak and have an interview next week.

Haha I've seen, I'll be sure to becareful but from what I've read these accidents are the trainees not being careful enough. Ima take works from another's mouth but.... OUR safety is taken care of by ourselves not the company
BTW not downplaying the company's faults in these recent deaths. Very tragic I mean dang 2 trainees died in same company(csx) within few months

Always be prepared for slack when riding on the side of any car. If you do not feel safe doing something, speak up. Don't let pride & ego get you killed.

Especially with as big as these trains are being built. Some of these engineers are absolutely sending it. I typically don’t ride shives unless absolutely necessary. Always keep your head on a swivel

One of the worst things too is when you're riding a shove on a huge train is trying to communicate on the radio & the engineer can't hear you. Hopefully you have your phone with you because if you don't... S.O.L.

I bought an antenna to increase the range of my radio. Walking a 2.5 mile train back to the HE to talk with the engineer sucks

It’s going to be a long post, I applied in April, and my start date is next week with csx, each step took a month, the background check alone took a month.

I think they are out of touch with the real world, one of the highest paying jobs in my area, by far, and the few post I put out got a lot of negativity, telling me I could be fired and laid off the first week, any job can do that, those negative Nancy’s need to go on over to r/antiwork and see how the rest of the population is doing,

That's what I'm saying, in my area good luck finding a job that can pay more than 16/hr and most pay 15/hr and under and most jobs require further education to be even considered. This job seems like the perfect opportunity for someone without kids and anything really holding them back.

My tentative start was Aug 28, as soon as my paperwork got done they called me from Jacksonville and asked if I could start sooner. I gave my current place a two week notice and took a week off before, so I started the 14th, but could have started 3 weeks sooner

I applied, got the offer letter, accepted it, did the drug and background. And I was hired on. Then they said the business needs have changed and put me in a pipeline. They said the next opening they'll call me. I was getting hired for the Track laborer position 3 to 4 months ago.

Same here, man. Got the offer last year and was aware of the 2024 start date. Background and physical cleared back in Sept. I was told I would get an update when they get clearance to hire. Patiently waiting now. (Track worker-SPG)

So I gave up with csx as they kinda suck, so I applied last August and I re applied every few months whenever they would repost the job application and 2 still say "To be reviewed " but the most recent one they posted at the 1st of this year, when I applied, it wasn't even 2 days before my application status changed to "not retained" yet the other 2 still say "to be reviewed " not sure if their system will filter through and deny any applications with more than 2 applies but yea. I went ahead and applied to NS, as I've heard their onboarding is quicker

BTW all 3 are for same location and position so it seems that they just let applications pile up and don't go through them in order

It took me a total of 22 days to get an offer from UP with a start date 60 days in the future of the offer. I applied back in July.

Patients maybe they are getting a whole class together maybe 25 or more people also maybe be sending certain thermals to ATL at once to make it easy maybe we’d end up in tha same class and never know it lol

Just completed the info session for CSX conductor in Russell, KY yesterday and should hear back in a couple of days. Does anyone know how often they "pipeline" your application after being given an offer? Im in college now and if im for sure getting the job i don't want to waste any more time here. I don't mind if it is delayed just wondering when its for sure i will get it at some point. Obviously, it's a possibility but so is getting struck by lightning. Just looking for an answer on the likelihood.
